Hi, I recently got a new ipod touch and have been wanting to jailbreak it. I want to know if anyone has successfully jailbroken one of the new ones, and if so what program would you recommend? It would be nice if you could also tell me any other information I might need. Thanks.

Blackrain, unfortunately the bootloader is changed in the new ones so the only thing available is a tethered jailbreak which simply means in order to start up your device whenever it's turned off or restarted you have to connect it to your computer and run the jailbreak again.

Rerunning it huh? Doesn't sound too bad.

One issue: Jailbroken ones are succeptable to viruses, and Mac will laugh in your fucking face if you get a virus and ask for their help.
Not sure how common it is to get the viruses, but it is possible -

You won't be able to Jailbreak it.
3.1 software isn't able to be Jailbroken yet. -

I haven't updated to 3.1 yet, unless it came with it. I dunno, I just read something about updating :\
Edit: maybe I'm thinking of 3.1.2 -

Wrong, you can jailbreak it.
@strat wtf are you talking about. nobody gets viruses on their ipod touch. What you probably heard of are iPhones being hacked through SSH because basically all passwords for SSH on iphones are the same (name: root, pw: alpine) some australian dude did that and somebody in the netherlands ->. http://www.engadget.com/2009/11/23/jailbro...time-malicious/
@AwonW
Make a backup of all the files you have on your ipod. If you did that, you're free to do whatever you want to. Your iPod can't brick. And at the tethered problem, personally i never turn my ipod off. I just clear all processes with SBsettings and then lock it. doesnt waste any battery. (Not that it matters though, since I have a 1g with untethered jb) -

Frip rather recently there have been iPhone hackers and viruses out and about however there are cydia apps which pretty much protect you from them. If you have allot of personal information I would just change the root passwords to your machine don't even set up shh use ifiles and get thevorus protection from hackulous. If you ever do get a virus a full restore should clear it up. Before you jailbreak commit to it as I can almost guarenteeenthat you will reck your itouch at least once and have to restore just be patient.
It's also untrue that your touch cannot brick right now I am using vm tools and one day it will brick my itouh on which I am typing this. You just have to weigh the benifets. -

No, the Australian guy created a worm that showed people how they should be careful.
Source code was released and people made it harmful, like the one above.
3.1.2 iPods can be jailbroken, if their model number isn't MCXXXXX.
Even then, if it's 3rd Gen Touch with 3.1.2 it's going to be tricky jailbreaking it, and kind of a hassle. -

even if you use vm... you wont be using your ipod anymore by the time it would brick. -

here is the website to get your new firmware : http://www.felixbruns.de/iPod/firmware/
just select what device you have and what firmware you want. (make sure you have the newest itunes to update it) after you dl it just double click it and make sure your ipod has already been restored to factory settings.
Then, you can go to blackrain and jailbreak it. Tons of how to's on that.
gl, it is very simple compared to software hacking other devices, so I would recommend it easily. -
