well, I have noticed that some pen spinners end up quiting because sometimes they find another pen spinner that has been doing it for a shorter period of time and at the same time, they are better. and some people quit because it gets too hard and they find out other spinners learn new tricks faster than them. so is it good or bad to compare yourself to other pen spinners? what do you guys think?

depends on your personality, if you're very competitive it can help you get better faster, if you're easily discouraged, you shouldn't do it.

I think it depends on what kind of person you are and weather or not you like battles and tournaments. If you are competitive comparing yourself can be a source of motivation to practice more and get better. If you just spin for fun or aren't that serious about spinning then it can be depressing about how others are better than you.
Its not so much that comparing yourself to others is good or bad, its how you use the comparisons. -

Usually just spin for fun. spinning is always something that anyone can do since many jobs (student, desk job, or anything that uses pens) If you are super hardcore comparing yourself to the best may push you or it may become overwhelming. Do it for the enjoyment of it whether you can do doing hardcore combos or just a simple ta or sonic. Something neat to do since most people have pens in their hands some pt during the day.

It sort of is good if you are competitive like Zombo said. But just spin for fun.

i think its good to compare yourself to other spinners of your level, but not to spinners who have been doing it way longer than you or are just simply a lot better. you dont wanna get discouraged

well, again, depends on the person
you could get discourage, or on the other hand, you could be motivated even more -

i agree with Penwish I just spin for fun. If I was gonna compare myself to other spinners I would have quit a long time ago. Im pretty old like almost 30. and suck still
what i never understood was how everybody that tried PS seemed to be instantly good at it. I never saw a single video of someone strugging through single moves, like me for a year and half. like they instantly learned to combo. -

Yeah, but you should only compare yourself to spinners of your own level. I've been spinning for a year and a half but I still suck compared to other spinners who have been spinning as long as me. Some poeple are just good at it while others learn at a slower pace

u'll get better as long as u r comparing urself with who is better than u and ur just gonna satisfy if u r comparing urself with whom u are better than them so compare urself with higher ranked spinners .. be ambitios XD

no one bothers to film the countless hours struggling with moves . Even why I do film I usually spend at least 5 minutes and pick the best part from that
Videos only show the good parts of spinning -

As everyone else has said, it really depends.
Pen spinning is a progressive skill, you can't expect to be like any of the World Tournament competitors in about 2 weeks, or even a couple months. Some people tend to learn a lot faster than others, and that's just because people are different.
For instance, VendettaBF has been spinning for like 5 months, and he's practically better than me, someone who's been doing this for about a year and 3 months.
I don't really get discouraged, because I find pen spinning to be a past time, that can actually be quite enjoyable and frustrating at times.
Anyway, if you strive to be better, comparing yourself to others is always a good indicator. If you want to just spin and be good some day, then just watch videos of the pros, and learn from those videos, that's what I try to do anyway. -

i don't think there's much discussion in this... =\
but yeah... it's only good to compare yourself if you're going to push yourself to improve otherwise...
