    10 pts filming
    10 pts linkage
    10 pts difficulty
    10 pts appeal
    10 pts creativity

    If you have a shitty cam, don't join and expect to win... I guess that's my major point. Sure, filming shouldn't be a factor in any way, but your combo won't be appreciated with a bad camera/angle/FPS.

    mm tbh i kind of agree with marc here tho like for example last year chautran vs dongza apparently the judges didnt like his vid as much bc of his fps. and since both were amazing spinners the round went to dongza. i mean imo dongza deserved it but i mean he would have had a better chance had his camera quality been better. mm tho i could be wrong about that battle lolol thats just my understanding of it.

    Yeah Simplex, fps is another issue, because you can't tell the spinning very well. IMO camera should only be considered in one way: can you see the spinning. If you can, then no points should be taken off.

    if i do a great combo, but it's on a 10fps camera, nobody can see/tell. if i do it on a slightly foggy camera, or off-center, who cares, the combo is still the same

    just my opinion though

    this feels kind of unorganized after reading some of these posts-- lots of changes giong back and forth

    8 judges is definitely too much...
    either -pick 5 randomly (which you're considering doing already i see)
    -pick first 5 who signed up
    -pick 5 most experienced

    fairness wise, i'd go with first 5; effectiveness of tournament wise, i'd go with top 5 experienced (but with that, i'm not sure if you could pick out the top 5 most experienced since you haven't been around all too long =\ )

    -and judges usually are kept unknown; you said no bribing judges, but that still has some chance (although i don't think anyone's gonna be tempted enough to fall for it) --- best way to avoid bribing jduges is to simply just make the judges unknown

    try to plan this a bit more for whatever is next for this tournament
    give me a PM if you need any help

    ..oh, and newb tournament..... two things.... 1, newb sounds kinda.. derogatory? perhaps Beginners tournament or, Under 6 months Tournament would sound better -- 2. "tornament" is spelled wrong; try to have everything spelled correctly to make it look better, it's spelled "tournament" with a "u"

    That's probably up to the discretion of the judges.

    You may get points up for difficulty but would probably lose points on smoothness or delivery if it isn't preformed as well.

    basically, to be out of the tourny. You have to lose twice. If you lose once and win all ur matches, you get third.
    Silver goes to the person who loses 1 match in the finals and gold loses 0 matches.

    @icolor. You should make it so that. the third place person can challenge the second place person because they both have 1 loss.
    If the challenger wins, then he/she goes to second and the second place person drops to third. If the second place person wins, then nothing happens
    or the third place person gets stripped of title because of two losses. This concept should be made into an option. Meaning the third place person
    can say i challenge you or no leave it. Regardless, the second place person must accept.

    It's only extending it a day, which imo is pretty short. Plus, I want to keep everyone in the tournament so it will be fun. I see no gratitude/reward if the contestant wins without even seeing the other person's video.
    I also extended the deadline a week because I thought there was not enough time for spinners to develop and film a decent combo worth their skill. (I also did it because I wasn't ready to edit on a monday. D:)
    The waiting for release time will be very short. I have already started editing so, by the time everyone turns in a video, there'll be a short amount of time before everything is released.
    After that, judging will occur and the deadline will be announced as soon the judging is over.

    This tournament was made to help other newbs and just let them experience things that a new spinner would not experience so early. I think it also encourages new spinners to continue and be confident in their spinning. biggrin.gif

    you couldn't have let them start judging the sent vids? i don't see the point in setting a due date and then saying late vids are accepted for 4-5 days after, just make sure everyone knows the date and is ok with it, like maybe make it a little bit more than a week or something.

    I don't know why you scored so low. Judges shouldn't be such asses to judge the drops as well, even though you could have edited them out. In my opinion you possibly actually have one of the best control of the whole tournament.

    I agree with this, I dunno why judge 1 and 2 gave you such a low score-- everyone drops while filming a combo (except for maybe eriror >.>) -- not editing out shouldnt' count towards point loss. And I do think you have one of the best control out of everyone too =\

    As for the control question though, it's basically not losing control of the pen is considered good control lol... so like..
    -when you're doing a trick, you don't need to make big awkward hand movements to catch the trick and keep spinning
    -when you're doing a trick, you make it land where you want to-- when that doesn't happen, the viewer can tell cause it'll look a bit awkward too if it's not somewhat planned and then your spinning will look a little confused for a second
    -also, i think good control of your fingers can be considered part of the good control category -- again, awkward hand movements can be seen, but if they're intentional, people can tell too(if it's intentional, but still looks bad, that just means the control/a bit of style can be improved)

    yocuppajoe, your spinning looks controlled cause you don't make too many awkward reaches out to maintain some control of the spinning to keep it spinning

    thats so rigged judge 3 is biased.. howcome he gave raine one of the best score compared to all of us who won 1st round

    Judge 3 was very generous to almost everyone; the scores were fairly consistent.
    Yeah, I shouldn't have been given that high of a score. XD

    Well, i don't think anythign can be done at this point, but @judge 3, i think you should work on your judging =\ i don't mean to say that i know everything about which combo is better or something, but some combos are clearly better than others from what i've seen but the scores aren't showing that from you (PM me if you wanna respond to this privately and explain the scores)

    i haven't watched all the vids yet so i dont' wanna accuse judge 3 of bad judging, but maybe i'll take a closer look at all the vids later and see how they were -- even so though, judge 3 should for the most part be around teh same page as judge 1 and 2 (except for that one where joe got bad control o.0? or something..)

    To be honest, I kinda agree with the judges on marking joe off for low control for dropping the pen a few times. Although he really had one of the best controls in the tournament, whatever that gets shown on the video is whatever that's going to be judged. If joe didn't edit out any of his drops, I would say that is his fault =\

    I guess people that would argue with me would say something like "Oh, he only messed up during the beginning, you should disregard that and look at the actual combo instead." Normally, I would do that myself, but seeing that a huge chunk of joe's video consists of drops, I wouldn't leave that unnoticed. I mean..c'mon, how long does it take to trim a video? not even 2 minutes?

    Basically, what I'm saying is that, whatever gets shown in the video is whatever is getting judged.

    JuDge 3 is incredibly incinsistant 0-o, the other two are fine, and no offense intended but i agree with the docking
    of control, the judges are judging the video, while it may be harsh dropping the pen before the start doesnt really show great control... I think its a question of presentation and dropping a pen and not editing it out is just suh an easy thing to dock off for.

    absolute values mean nothing, for one judge 5/10 might be average, for another its 8/10. for one 3/10 might be considered decent, for another it means fail.

    No, but your camera has a big part to do with appeal. It's a lot more attractive to have a combo with good FPS (like vic) because its easy to see what they are doing than it is to have a combo with bad FPS (like mhig) because you can't see anything.

    Anyways, to be honest, the judges aren't all that great. As pointed out before, a few judges have a problem with consistency (or have very weird preferences)

    Yes, but if all of the judges idea of an average score are so different, when all of the scores are averaged together, it can really be make or break for someone.

    not if the judge is consistent. if judge 1 2 and 3 all score highish but consistent, and judge 4 doesn't even score anyone above 6, it doesn't matter as far as winners of battles go as long as they are consistent, so though all scores would be lower, they would all be the same relative to each other.

    Actually I think poisoned is right. In the second part of the loser's bracket one round was skipped without videos being turned in. Some people just won. its kinda hard to explain, but basicly everyone in the loser's bracket for round 3 should have had another round.


    Maybe somebody else who understands it can do a better job of explaining.

    yeah, i was planning so much more, but i was spinning really poorly at the time, had to get it done quickly, and was film shy T.T

    however, while i might say i sort of agree with you, I also think that you shouldn't be the one to judge. i'd bet your spinning could use a great deal more of creativity as well
