hi guys =)

Wow I never knew there were so many people dedicated to this haha... a few weeks ago I watched Goldeneye and there was some programmer in it who did something resembling a fingerpass on his left hand constantly, so I googled pen spinning and found my way here =)

I guess I first started spinning last summer when a friend at a summer camp taught me the TA. Although for a few months that was about it since she didn't know anything else and I had no idea this was actually something serious..

So, yeah, hope to see you guys around more as I start spinning seriously. Second semester senior ftw =)

Are there any combos that I should be working towards? I feel like it would be better to have something to work towards rather than just learning random tricks I come across in no particular order and trying to make something out of them. Of course eventually I'll be making my own combos but right now I don't really feel comfortable making something from scratch yet.

oh cool cool, new jersey spinner.. d'you live anywhere near new york? there are new york city gatherings (in manhattan) from time to time that you could try to go to and meet more spinners

and senior in high school i'm assuming? finally, some older spinners (no offense to the younger spinners, i just can't seem to have long discussions with people who are 15 and under most of the tiem ^^" lol)

there are a lot of tutorials here: http://www.youtube.com/user/akujinnoeso#p/u and as zombo's said, learn the fundamentals (thumbaround, sonic, charge, fingerpass) and their reverses (TA rev, sonic rev, charge rev, fingerpass rev)

    oh, and welcome.gif

Manhattan is a little over an hour away on NJ Transit + subway so I should be able to make a few gatherings. What exactly goes on during these gatherings? Just some social interaction / pen spinning?
And yep I'm a senior in hs.

Are most pen spinners that young? O.o I kinda wish I started earlier.

Ah, BC =) maybe I'll see you in Boston next year.

Yea I've been looking at various youtube tutorials. I have TA & Rev, Sonic 32-21 (my 43-32 isn't that smooth yet for the K4LC), Fingerpass normal (although my pass 21-32 is still unsmooth), Twisted Sonic, Charge, Infinity Extended Normal, and Shadow 21-21 (not completely consistent yet) down right now.

Hmm, should I go back and learn all the reverses I missed now? I wanted to work on getting the Shadow consistent and being able to do it between any two fingers since it seems like it would be really useful. I'll learn them eventually but I kind of want to work on new stuff right now. I know they would be necessary in the future for variety purposes but do I really need them now?

Also, maybe I should ask this in another section, but how do you transition into one of the infinity combos, as in getting the pen to a position where you hold it by the side instead of the cop?

damn, looks like you've got your shit together.

    i like noobs like this.

oh, fingerslots go in ascending order (shadow 23-12, not 32-21)

lol, i agree, it's cause he's 16+, they generally know how to think at that age =]

this guy's on my cool list ;D
when they start making long posts, it shows they actually care/are trying -- mhm sleep(1).gif i like noobs like this too

and yeah..sorta, most are less than 16 years old..or started before that age-- i wish i started earlier too =\ i started when i was 16

and boston...where you giong to school, harvard? tongue.gif?

    as for tricks..
focus on working on the fundamental reverses-- it might get boring but it's good to set up a good starting base before you move onto harder tricks in my opinion
at the same time though, you can work on shadows/infinity combos-- you can learn them at teh same time as fundy reverses =) i tend to work on like 3 tricks at the same time back then cause working on one is just too boring

as for further infinity questions, you can ask in the infinity thread: http://www.upsb.info/forum/index.php?showt...=1287&st=40
but just to answer that one question you have to avoid reviving the infinity thread (=P), try doing twisted sonics or sonics at the end of the pen or something, or shadows, but usually when you do charge based tricks..you can sorta displace the pen from holding it at cog to holding it at the end and then you can do wipers/infinities from there (displacing either occurs accidently from lack of practice or on purpose by being able to control the pen really well)

I was deferred from MIT; will see what happens in March. Hmm, I doubt I'll get into/go to Harvard, I'm not really a Harvard person.
