Evan Lysacek won the gold medal in figure skating without a quad.

this is proof that you don't need power tricks to be the world champion.

Lol amazing that I was a senior when he was a sophmore. He has improved a hella lot.

He did win with no quad but if the Russian dude didn't wobble like every jump he woulda probably got gold. His footwork and artistic is nowhere near evan's but if his jumps were perfect it woulda made up for that

plushenko was too cocky he thought he just needed to land quad combos and it would be enough to win

I'm a huge fan of both. plushenko's cockiness I think for such a competition as this you have to be cocky in a way.

I mean jumps are 50% of the scoring. IF he had perfect execution of his jumps he would have won. Don't get me wrong Evan's skate was near flawless but if the japanese dude would have actually landed his quad and plushenko didn't mess up his jumps/landings this woulda been much closer. Overall i think the best skater won.however, quads will make or break a routine just wasn't case yesterday.

I would like to think judges would award skaters that takes risks. The degree of difficulty of a quad-triple combo is ridiculous. I'm glad evan won and i actually wanted to but I voted slightly closer to plush but then again i don't know the exact criteria.

Zombo, Penwish. I am terribly sorry to tell you this but I'm going to have to take away your man-cards for watching any ice skating that is not hockey.

    100% pure agree.

I thought Weir did pretty good but he got pretty lower score on both SHort and Free. I don't get it.

    I'm glad Takahashi got Bronze!

    arguments pro-quad:

    - Jumps are what sets figure skating apart from ice dancing. So the emphasis should be put on jumps
    - The quad is what sets men's skating apart from women's. Without the quad, men may as well compete with women, there's no difference in their jumps.
    - "Some journalists and judges have become “Cyclops,” Mishin said, myopically focusing on transitional moves between jumps instead of on the difficulty and innovation of the jumps themselves. It is the equivalent, he insisted, of judging the 100-meter sprint on style instead of speed."
    - Quads push the limits of skating; it progresses the sport as a whole.

    arguments anti-quad:

    - If jumps were all that matter, the program would only need 10 seconds and no music.
    - It's called figure skating, not figure jumping. You can be the best jumper but not the best skater.
    - Combining 2 or 3 smaller jumps may be more important than one quad.
    - Skating a whole program clean and good requires more consistency than landing a single quad.
