the best way to get into this trick is ta> palmspin>swivel imo. but the trick it self has a lot of wrist movement. and the hardest part of this is catching it, because it might be uncontrolable at first thumb.gif hope this helps

Before I knew this trick existed, I was practicing how to transfer the pen from the position where the pen is held by the palm and your fist is closed to the back of my hand by swinging my hand thumb downward. (Somewhat like a reverse twisted cobra bite.) When I was able to swing the pen such that the pen could balance on the pinky side area, that was when I discovered the swivel. I tried it once and I could get it. Hopefully this helps. Sorry if my explanation is not clear. (If you don't understand just say so and I'll try to re-explain it.) However, now I'm having a hard time learning the combo TA -> palmspin -> swivel.

i was shown a video of a swivel, and i thought it was a pinky bak

in actual fact its the reverse rotated pinky bak (pb goes cw, swivel goes ccw)
hope that also give you more of an idea of how to get a swivel

you guys realize that technically, it's just a sonic from the outside of you pinky right?

  11. Margareth
    Date: Thu, Feb 25 2010 03:04:51

yea your right... it's a pinky sonic happy.gif.. but it has a lot of hand movements happy.gif

    Date: Thu, Feb 25 2010 09:32:06

Technical term is sonic P4-12but should it be a FL. trick? I think so

  13. Margareth
    Date: Thu, Feb 25 2010 10:13:45

maybe happy.gif.. you will only use your pinky to realese the pen..

  14. Hippo2626
    Date: Thu, Feb 25 2010 10:42:14

The motion is generated from the wrist movement. The pinky or any finger is just there as a fulcrum to turn the pen.

hm trying to explain as easily as possible. try to think of it as a sonic because it does a 1.0 rotation..i think anyways i hold it in my palm with the pen sticking out on the side where the pinky is. if your right handed flick your wrist to the left and catch with 12 and vice versa if your left handed

this trick is pretty useless done normally to 12, looks ugly imo... but if u mix it up like vic's ~> pinky around and my ~> symmetrical backaround it gets much more tricky, im sure theres more u can do with it... like holding the pen under 3 and pushing it under 4, over 2 and 3 and under 1 and doing a fl ta. etc etc
mix it up people... so sick of standard swivel

ta > palmspin > swivel is WAY OVERUSED and looks bad imo :/

well the swivel's motion is the exact opposite of a tw cobra bite ohmy.gif

just imo, but i think swivel should be classified as an around, not a sonic because there is a pinkybak component to the swivel (swivel = pinkybak p4-12 1.5 imo anyways.) SORRY I HOPE THIS DOESNT BRING UP A NOTATION WAR D:

and im definitely w/ penja. i mixing up swivels is definitely important. (ie. swivel p4-34 > ringaround > devils shadow 34-34)

EDIT: imo a good angle is also necessary to make swivels look nice tongue.gif

Ok, after a full school day of practicing it I have mastered the swivel and soon post some variations, tips, and secrets on how to master this Trick

    Date: Tue, Apr 27 2010 23:23:56

by "variations", do you mean just catching it in different slots? there are a lot of variations of swivels out there.
yes, you probably have the trick down. but have you mastered it? i doubt it

hmm... IMO swivel is more of a moonwalk around than a sonic :/

I don't know much about swivels so excuse me for some dumb questions.

Does it have to start p4?

    Can it end anywhere?

Is it a swivel as long as it rotates 1.0 on top of the hand being rotated by a fingerless motion?

Are there such things as inverse swivels?

does NOT have to start p4

    CAN end anywhere

rotation is not fixed, you could add more rotations if you like, but it cant have a total of less than 1.5 spins

there are NO inverse swivels, unless you can bend your pinky 180 degrees back to start it out on the back of your hand huh.gif i feel the swivel is more of an around than a sonic, and theres no such thing as an inv around, so yeah.....

I find the best way to dish out this trick is by: wiper TF > swivel bust. Also I made this quick video to try and help people learn the trick. Idk how it ended up being sideways.

Just a tip about swivel usage: don't abuse it

There are way too many combo's out there that consist of spam > swivel > spam > swivel bust (or something along those lines)

that video was bad, i got advice to start palm up and it look sooo much better now

but im honestly not a power tricker, if i use it at all in a combo it will be once not spammed, just to make it look better [im not against power tricks in combos just think some ppl overdo them]

im inspired by erirors smooth linkages more than anything icon_spin.gif u can see some of my noob linkages in the combo vid in my profile but i have a LONGGG way to go. i tried to do multiple fl ta's as the finisher like eriror but it failed lol

I have a method that I use to teach swivels to my friends. Usually this helps more than tutorials (or so I've been told...)

    1. Gun position: Thumb pointing up, Index finger pointing out. Using middle, ring, and pinky finger, hold semi-extremity of pen (like, 75% of the pen's hanging down)

    2. Rotate hand sideways.

    3. Loosen fingers' grip on pen. As you do so, jerk hand backwards. The pen should spin along the knuckles of your hand...

    4. Bring up middle, ring, pinky to catch the pen between your index and ring.

Note: This looks really...really jerky. Once you get it down, add some style.

    pinkyswivel P-12 = twisted cobra bite reverse¨P-12

Swivel is not only 1 trick. twisted cobra bite reverse is a swivel, like several other tricks. => http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mI19-gmxHiM

so we can call tw cobra bite as swivel reverse?

anyway, I can do such a swivel spin 1.5/2.0 (don't know what is called). does anyone did this trick before? if none, later I'll post it..

Uh, it's not that special I'm afraid. pretty much like doing a thumbspin 1.0 and 2.0. no difference really.

twisted cobra bite can be called swivel reverse (or pinkyswivel reverse 12-P), but you can also keep the original name, since everybody knows it i think.
Swivel with 2.0 rotations is just called... Swivel 2.0.
