Now that Pen Ninja will be the first Australian to participate in a major international Pen Spinning even, Id like to start topic that would help
him the best we can. Basically if asked pen ninja to put any rough video drafts or combo break downs here. Or it also can be used for analysis of the opponents, as well as combo pacing ( we cant let pen ninja get steamed out the first round).
1st Opponent: Ellusion67

Ellusion has been around the pen spinning community, on UPSB, for quite some time now and first made an impression on me with his combo copies of other spinners. He competed in the Asian Cup 2008, so he has experience in international tournaments. To me his variety is very strong, and i think its supported by the amount of work he has with pen spinning media making his influences very wide.
Style lately has been much more of a thai. Ellusion in all his recent combos has put either some sort of spread, or aerial busts combination. However in the past he has also used environment and a bit unorthadox things like cobra bites etc. I would say he would
be comparable to a supawit, with lest emphasis on power tricks, and more on the one off flash tricks like the ayatori tricks etc.

its apparent that he is also happy to placing free spinning tricks, inverse shadows, etc and assisted tricks now and then. Otherwise
ellusion is a very solid spinner, very smooth and id say consistant in hybrids and cont. tricks.

How to beat:
Pen ninja wont be able to win this with power tricks or smoothness, ellusion im sure will include both of that in his combination. Id say
a problem with ellusion is that his combos dont have a definitive flow. He will swtich from a busts session to an assisted trick, and id say it isnt always the smoothest. While this isnt a bad thing for ellusion, in fact id say it can also be a strength, but i think pen ninjas combos
a more clean cut where as ellusions will get "part B" from ayatori combo, + "part c" from supawit combo + bust.
Right so this win wont be very straightforward, but lets GET TO IT!
Pen ninja is much stronger in terms of very difficult sonic hybrid => arounds => passes etc. Also, pen ninja's baks are much stronger than
ellusions, than most spinners actually so always expect a strong combination of both from pen ninja, which i believe is a reason why he
was noticed by others. Smoothness has always been high quality, id say ellusion is smoother but ellusions smootheness will always come from a tw sonic or cont trick where as pen ninja is doing crazy two fingered stuff.

Rough Ideas for This Round:
-personally my favourite was the trick at the end of the new concept vid. Apparently only one person has done that being pesp, however
pen ninjas is very clear. Id be a great direction change that no one would predict.
-id like to see pen ninja put a strong bak combination, but save the hxc 2.0 stuff for later rounds.
-also i know pen ninja can do xpxh, where as i dont usually see ellusion doing this. This is also a very strong possibility, but it may reduce
chances of a clear video.
-when doing your sonics do indeed slow down, its very hard to see sometimes how difficult it is. I also love ur use of flush sonics, try
varrying it with flush sonic to around to 13 or something (ie what gollumsk8 does)
-opener and finisher should always leave an impression. Ill try to talk about it later.

Hmmm... ellusion67's structure is awkward, but i think pen ninja's combos can be a little repetitive. Make sure you change trick family more than four times in your combo.

sonics, busts, baks, arounds... umm... i can only really think of 4... changing 4 times would require 5 families >.> weird... unless u mean changing back but that doesnt seem to count as using one or 2 tricks in a family is more of a link between tricks of the same family... hard to explain... expecially to some1 who joined less than an hour ago

Wow, congrats on getting in.
Just copy Leo's third round combo from WT07 and you'll win. That was the greatest combo I've ever seen and it's been so long that no one will notice.
But really, you should watch that video for inspiration, it was awesome, blew everyone away. -

no, better idea is to get kam/K4S/tek/neptune/imatt to make a mod that can transfer pen spinning skills...
then my hai tua+bust+spread+palmspin and penja's insane baks, arounds, hybrids can destroy ellusion xDDD ok srsly though...
if you can't beat him in power tricks, avoid them entirely (or only use them once). creativity is something ellusion probably won't be focusing on...so that is the key. -

agreed, ellusion only focused on power tricks. what a shhame you had an awesome combo.

so i watched a bit of mystic's vids, here is what i've found:
1. he likes speed
- beat him with a slow, controlled combo
2. he likes his palm spins and swivels
- bak combo? (if in doubt, bak combo)
3. he also likes his RAs etc
- but he seems to use the same linkage out of it, try using an interesting linkage out, if you're planning to use one
4. he finishes majority of the time with cont fl ta
- find an interesting finisher, maybe a aerial/power-lvl->9000-trick, since ur stronger than him in that area
5. mystic can't seem to do xhxp
- try a smooth transifer, wether its just transfer to left, transfer straight back (or bak), or a short mini combo on left hand, it'll get noticed
- make sure its flawless though
6. he's not penja
- be penja
bring the crown to australia penja! GO! -

delta is very strong and has very good control. I dont think going slow or faster is going to beat him here. style wise he is very stiff, but it gives that sense of control.
i think he always goes for a lot of variety, so i think the only way to beat him is to do something creative with strong variety, or beating him in variety alone. maybe penjas moonwalk haitua will be awesome here, and im also hopeing for a hand transfer. we will see. -

thats silly. think u just need a break...i feel that you should still compete, but u shouldnt think you HAVE to compete. it should not just be a binary solution: "i will compete forever for every tournament" and "i will never compete for the rest of my life". theres always an in between.

its not that theres a lot of tourneys.... its the pressure to record an awesome video every 1 or 2 weeks. its much worse when i dont get home til about 12 every night from mei's lol. even less time to record. competing occasionally is fun but after 2 or 3 rounds it starts to get serious and difficult at finals level and thats where i wanna drop out or skip out a round but then every1s waiting on an epic round or something.

no real fan of urs would get angry of judge you if u cant always bring out ur limit.
u have several options:

- dont mind abuot others when u compete. its nice for them to comment and cheer u on but they should never
alter the way you view pen spinning and competitions through negativity.
- spend less time on some aspect of your life and spend more on tourneys
-try even harder to get that free time neede
-pace urself in tournaments even more so.
- compete in tournaments when u have free time
-stop pen spinning altogether.
-keep trying they way ur life is now.

its hard to just tone down some aspect of my life just for ps. i dont wanna stop spinning all together coz ps is awesome, i do compete when i have spare time... but then later rounds i dont have the same spare time coz i started the tourney a month ago..... when i did have spare time

how about you be a collab spinner
just enter collabs when you feel like entering
that way, you still spin, we still get to see ur awesomeness, and you dont have a long term commitment to any project -

honestly, i don't think anyone will completely stop spinning... we'll always be using a pen no matter how futuristic technology will become. using a pen will always somehow be easier
