    do you guys longboard?
I started skating and i wanna get a longboard but not really sure what and where to get it from
I don't wanna spend that much... probably $50-150
gonna use it for just cruising around. not for speedboarding or anything

I have no clue what to get individually. preferably pre-assembled
I dont know any of the specifics and just get a general one...
    any suggestions?
    specific boards? websites? linky plz?
    Thanks a bunch yo
    ---------
oh well i got a drop carve if u care lol

    hey i skate too
the best place to get pre made stuff is zumies
its a store in the mall
idk if you have one there
but somethings to look for is
    wheels in the 50mm range
good grip tape (replacing long board grip tape is hella expensive xD)
and if its premade ask if you could test it out ride it around the store to get a feel of what your buying
    hope this helps thumb.gif

the black shit that is layered on top of the board to help your feet stay on the board.

taping a board isnt expensive lul.

and mm i ordered my first board online and idk about the zummies place lol. jsut check out your local skate shop tongue.gif they probably will have quite a few boards for sale. for cruising i suggest going with a slightly stickier larger wheel like abec11's 76 mm gumballs or big zigs. uh since you want to just cruize and like commute then i suggest mid sized board not super long or super short but the shorter it is the easier it will be to carry around and shit. something like tihs maybe? http://www.gravityboard.com/pages/gstore/boards/hc1.html
for trucks i say randal RIIs are good. mm but chobi knows a lot more then i do about this tongue.gif

anything over 40in seems a bit long to me so haha

    what do you guys think?

i as well wanna start longboarding as well, but the fact that u have to walk all the way up the hill again, or walk whenever u face a steep hill is quite troublesome, unlike bmx, whereas you can pedal up. =/

    I'm stuck between

    and

    http://www.amazon.com/Sector-Greenroom-Lon...d=3S1P41RBWKQ5C

    not sure what to get.......

the first one is pretty nice with the custom shape and everything... and a bit longer at 36in and cheaper

the second has the brand name sector 9 and possibly looks nicer? dunno about the upper deck cuz i cant find a pic anywhere. and longer and more expensive..

    any advice?

Hey SJ, i basically quit PSing but well, decided to help you out.
You've come to the right guy to ask though. Ahaha.

Among your choices, i'd say, get the Drop Speed. I myself have two. A custom Carbon fiber/foam one for racing, and a normal one to freeride/fvck around on.

Original's trucks turn waaaay too much for it to actually feel good, Sector 9's durability and customer service is crap, Madrid, well can't really say much, Rayne makes good boards, but a bit too expensive for me.

I'm pretty much biased over Landyachtz because i ride them, and they sponsor me in races, but i'll give you reasons why i like the Drop Speed.

    - It's shorter than most longboards (39 inches), making it more responsive in turns.

    - It's drop-through (the trucks go through the deck, hence the term drop though), meaning it's more stable, and lower to the ground, making it easier to push.

    - It may be a tad expensive, (lol, my carbon one's $400 for the DECK ONLY, and it's trucks is $300ish) but hell worth it due to the fact that it's amost unbreakable.

    - Landyachtz makes it

    - I ride it.

    BOOM.

EDIT: Well, i know your not doing downhill, but i just put this in for the hell of it. This was posted on Head Shotz a while back, anyway.

Me on a Drop Speed(this was taken a while back, before i got my carbon DSpeed)

Whole setup: Landyachtz Drop Speed, Kahalani 204mm Precision Trucks, Landyachtz Bear Ceramic Bearings, Landyachtz Aqua Hawgz Wheels.

    Cheers,
    Chobi

    Spoiler:

    Cheers,
    Chobi

Get a path 37, it would be great for what your wanting to do. But I'd buy it from their site. Sector Nine and Madrid boards don't match up in comparison. From what some of my friends are saying, Flexdex also makes nice cruising longboards.

I got a drop carve lol i really like it. the only bad thing is it has a clear grip tape so it gets dirty real easy
thanks Chobi for the detailed response.
i heard the drop speed was mostly for DH and didnt flex that much so it wasnt really for me
DH is scary as hell sleep(1).gif
i might start learnin dancin and sliding hahaha and tricks possibly...
i fell a couple times fooling around and it hurts
i wasnt even going fast LOL

Drop carve? The new one(with the green graphic underneath), or old one(with the samurai graphic)? The new one was remodeled for better dancing and tricks, due to a longer nose and tail than the old one. great choice though.
I was supposed to recommend the Drop Carve for you, but it wasn't part of your choices, ahaha. I own the old one myself for some dancing and tricks, and it's really intended for that, and cruising. It's basically the exact same as a Drop Speed, but made of bamboo, has flex, and less concave. Glad your having fun with a Landy board. happy.gif
But one thing, do you have a helmet, pads, and gloves? 'cause you really need that. I had a friend who died falling bacwards on his head without his helmet. The witnesses who saw it said he was just dancing, on flat ground, when he fell backwards, then he started shaking violently, then blood came out of his mouth. He was dead on arrival in the emergency room.
    May he rest in peace.
So always remember to wear a helmet. It's always a matter of life and death when skating. smile.gif

    Date: Tue, Mar 30 2010 03:10:11

Yeah, I'm looking for a longboard to get around mainly college campus (So mainly crusing, maybe some dancing and sliding). Something on the cheaper end, maybe $150 to $200 total. Suggestions?

  30. Mira
    Date: Tue, Mar 30 2010 03:31:18

@RoastBeef: Tell them that it's not "dangerous if taken step-by-step, and with the proper safety gear. smile.gif

@CPM8: Does the budget include safety gear? Because you surely shouldn't skate without a helmet. No matter what circumstances. tongue.gif Try Looking around http://www.silverfishlongboarding.com/forums/ for a good, cheap 2nd had board. http://www.silverfishlongboarding.com/foru...-longboard.html
thats the thread i asked stuff on

    how about a used board?
consider a drop through for more stability. bamboo for flex.
also how wide it is and long it is. the longer it is, the more stable you are at high speeds.

i got a drop carve btw. it was over 200 tho lol

What do u mean step-by-step? By professional? They said I can if there is actually one, except there's none where I live. Also they sneaked into my room and saw a video of a person longboarding on a highway, and got the wrong impression that I'm gonna get hit by a car if i do dry.gif
