People shuffling were using the lights which switch on and off fastly to create a motion effect - that could possibly look good with pen spinning but what might be even better is using the reflective material they use in there pants as an insert and using a uv light to get it to reflect. You can buy the material on ebay as tape, sqaure sheets and strips (look for reflective phat or reflectors phat with search descriptions ticked). The material shines really brightly, look up phat pants on google or youtube. Its kind of like the glow in the dark idea that modrod_cris thought of but it can be done in artificial light and isnt restricted to o-rings so it would look better in videos. Material would probably be easy to find in Malaysia and Melbourne, Australia as shuffling is quite popular there. Im not going to try this myself, but wanted to share anyway.
