You always see this on the tv, in the news of the papers. There are millions of people dying of Cancer each year and there is no real cure.

There are many types of cancers that can and cannot be treated.

    A definition of cancer:
Cancer is a diverse range of diseases where abnormal cells grow rapidly and generally spread uncontrolled throughout the body. These cancerous cells can invade and destroy surrounding tissue and spread (metastasise) to distant parts of the body.

Cancer can develop from most types of cells in different parts of the body. Different cancers will grow and spread in different ways and at different rates. While some cancers share common causes or risk factors, it is believed that most cancers have a unique set of causes.

I found out recently that I was diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma. A form of Cancer.
Fortunately my type of Cancer is curable with a high success rate.
I consider myself lucky that my cancer is treatable but what about the other millions of people that have cancer that cant be treated?

What are your views on cancer?

tbh, you should reword your question

unless you're sadistic, cancer is bad

Even I think cancer is bad wink.gif.

But ya...my dad is in his early 60's and has started developing cancer...One of the worst parts about it is that he needs radiation therapy, but it costs a huge amount of money to pay for it...and I'm not sure we'll be able to get 3 kids through college for much longer...

From what I've heard, if there is anything that has a hope of curing cancer someday, its probably in stem cell research. Hopefully now with the recent development of converting skin cells into stem cells, rather than using embryonic stem cells, those pesky fundies will stay out of stem cell researchers' way.

Unfortunately, many lab mice who have been cured of ailments with stem cells also grew cancerous tumors. There's still a lot of work to do with stem cells involving how to get them to stop dividing (which is essentially what cancerous cells do).

what is there to stay about cancer? its a disease we need to cure, why would anyone think otherwise.

almost everybody has someone in their family who has or died from cancer.

Hmmm...does sound like quite a problem.

I was thinking about looking into bio engineering in college, wonder if I would ever be working with stem cell research sort of stuff...

    Overpopulation.

Not interested in discussing though so I'll just leave this here.

hmm, ur talking VIEWS on cancer.

so, i'll just voice opinions here. honestly, cancer isnt the end of everything . plenty of people are diagnosed of cancer, plenty are cured, and plenty have also died from it. ur lucky that ur diagnosed early so you'll make a quick recovery i believe. lets face it, probably everyone's family tree has a history of cancer, its not something that we can avoid. like seriously, we have perfectly healthy people going for a medical screening, everything is fine and BOOM you have cancer. it just comes, unexpectedly, or just minor tell tale signs, but you will get a huge shock its cancer.

cancer isnt a good thing of course, but its great that there are cures for it, unlike diseases like HIV and AIDS, where there are no cures and people just wait to die for now (till a cure is being developed). imo we have to look at the positive side of everything. its a disease! how could it be good? i've lost a few relatives thru cancer, met a couple of kids around my age battling cancer (yeah and actually one today). recovering from cancer isnt easy with all those chemo shit and we all know its tough and terrible, but probably those who have won this battle have become stronger, more positive and determined people. look on the bright side =)

Hmm yeah cancer isn't really a topic of open-ended discussion like AIDS or something, because 99% of the time there's no real cause, and at the moment there's no cure, so the only thing to be said is be thankful yours is easily curable

    Good Luck smile.gif

My best friend's dad died at 48. Best man I know (I'm not just saying that because he died). He was always second and loved to help people. Payed for poor city kids to play sports, if they didn't have the money. Now he's gone because of cancer in his whole body. Cancer sucks and can effect the best people. So at NeXus's comment about overpopulation: Fuck you.

eating shitty food , overweightyness, and misinformation don't cause cancer but sure don't help them for a majority of the population.

my sister actually died of cancer when i was like 8. she had soft tissue sacoma(something like that) and had to have TONS of radiation therapy. it costed alot of money even with insurance. weird thing is, she never did anything bad, or had any symptoms. she just one day had a bump thing on her leg, turned out to be a tumor, and spread to her upper body and head.

even though my sister was victim, i do agree with nexus and the whole malthus theory thing and overpopulation. i wish we just settle on new planets so we could cure cancer, and not overpopulate dunno.gif
