for those who are fat / wanna get into shape...how many calories do you burn everday? my workout now is useless - - i use an elliptical trainer for 20 mins and burn 180~200 cals...but i cant go to 1 hr i get tired so fast >.< ...so do you think if i combine my cardio w/ weights i can burn at least 500 cals / day?and im 155 lbs 5'8 1/2...

you do realize losing weight is mostly about eating/dieting than working out. maybe 75% eating, 25% exercise
just burning cals with exercise is not enough, you need to stop eating your daily chips (which you said you did) -
Date: Fri, May 14 2010 06:45:54
elliptical trainers are for pussys xD....Running outside is the best way to go man. From what I've heard, training consistently is one of the most important aspects. If you can do some running, swimming or cycling 6 days a week, your metabolism should go up, and losing weight will be a lot easier.

Really? I eat a lot of junk yet I'm ridiculously fit (like, top 5 people at school) -

fit, or just skinny
i eat mountain loads (to the point where my friend tells me to stop eating XD) but my metabolism prevents me from gaining any weight
but i'm still unfit
if you want to lose weight, then you would need to control your diet more than exercise
if you want to be fit, then yes, working out is equally important as diet -

fuk that... so i need to go back to what i eat before? i lost 30 lbs in 1 month before..i just ate tuna and chicken breast all the time and only 1/2 cup rice...but i did less work out...just 50 rep of 18 lbs for bicep and 60 rep for tricep and 10 min jogging...
@sadistic
u sure running is harder??? i used to box for 2 weeks and my warm up is run 10 mins on a treadmill...i dont get tired running on a treadmill but i do get tired on an elliptical trainer fast...mayb just 2 mins i already wanna quit lol....
wre supposed to order pizza hut for dinner...but nvm...maybe my parents and sister will still order...so ill just go back and eat tuna again later...ill just ignore my hunger again like before... -
Date: Fri, May 14 2010 11:50:55
If i ever run on the treadmill i usually burn about 400 cal. Running outside is a lot better though. If your going to start running i suggest building up your distance every time. When I first started running I went for like 2 miles. Now im up to 4 in a few months.

you can be skinny as hell and very unhealthy. as long as you burn more than you eat you will lose weight. losing 30 pounds in one month is retarded and unhealthy unless you are biggest loser type fat
-
Date: Fri, May 14 2010 13:28:21
best strategy:
1) diet (but dont overdo it) and get used to the smaller diet and stick to it
2) run outdoors. (seriously, swimming and cycling dont work that good)
first things first, no matter how people say dieting is bad and crap, its the only way to go, because a body's metabolism differs from person to person, but once you get used to it, it will work out pretty well. just dont go to the point to diet till anorexia.
running (2.4 km ) + pushups (40) + situps (50) would be good if you were to do that like two times a week? -
Date: Fri, May 14 2010 13:33:05
there is no set work out. find your age and hit your target heart rate and keep it there for 20 minutes. for some you may need to run 10 miles to do that for others it may take a 10 minute walk. alternate between cardio and lifting and resting every 3 - 4 days
-

i was 190 lbs 38 waist line b4, after 1 mo 160 lbs 34 wasit line, now 155 lbs 34 waist line...... and yes i think what i did was very unhealthy...whenever i brush my hair / scratch my head, alot of hair falls... >.< my classmate said that happened cuz the average weight loss / month is 10...and when u exceed 10 lbs its already bad -
Date: Fri, May 14 2010 13:53:49
Long distance running is where its hard mate.
You could start running 10-15 miles a week and build it up to 30 or so. Some marathon runners do 100+ (I've even heard of a guy doing 210 miles per week at one point lolz...) -
Date: Fri, May 14 2010 20:56:23
Yeah, i'm really out of shape. I weigh 160 and 6"2. I eat like a horse though. I'll eat 14oz of steak, pasta, more steak, and fish all within 6 hours (about 7pm-1am) and weigh the same the next day =/ even if i do that for a week ill weigh the same. I try to exercise more but i always get discouraged I'd say motivation is also the key to losing weight. I'm supposed to get about 3200 calories a day xD.
-

Instead of dieting just eat healthy and do cardio. I never eat fast food and rarely eat lots of junk food. But i eat tons of other things. I see some people at my school working out using weights and stuff. I think just cardio is much better for losing weight. Just be more active and and eat/drink healthy.
-
Date: Fri, May 14 2010 21:39:44
jog or run alot, and eat the right food. weightlifting builds muscle the more muscle you have the more fat you will burn also. someone correct me if im wrong but im pretty sure im right sense i workotu >.>

Suggestion: do some push ups. No, really, they're the ultimate exercise. I'm in the middle of the one hundred push ups program. I saw it on here a while ago and I thought I'd give it a try. I can do about 40-50 good push ups consistently now. Before I could only do about 15. -

1) Eat 5 meals a day. Small meals. Eat enough so that you are not hungry but not too much so that you are full.
2) 20 min of cardio everyday.
3) watch intake (sugar, fats, oils, etc.) Carbs, proteins, etc. should also be maintained.QUOTE (Boshi @ May 14 2010, 06:01 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>can anyone help me with gaining weight? and in a healthy way too, maybe build some muscle xD but seriously, i only weigh like 113 and im 5"6. all my friends who are shorter than me weigh like 120-130. im starting to do push ups, but idk if i should, cuz i think thatll just burn fat and calories =/

Let's face it: it's all in the genes. People like me -- people with superior genetics -- don't have to work out, yet are both thin and fit. That's just the way it is.

Slim being next to no fat, 60kg 16 year old.QUOTE (Surge @ May 14 2010, 07:10 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>Let's face it: it's all in the genes. Agreed. Although my genetics are shit for my hobbies...

Boshi dont worry about being hella skinny its just your metabolism to be honest. I'm 6'2" and 135 pounds but I have muscle, I'm strong, I can run, idk its not a big deal to be small. You'll grow man muscle one day just dont be lazy I guess. I work out all the time and play ultimate frisbee, ride my bike, play basketball. Cardio is key because getting those good lungs will make you be able to idk live long I guess. Vascular health is really important nowadays with all the heart attacks and bullshit going on. Pretty much eat right and exercise, its not that hard to stay healthy.

Reality contradicts you here. There are some people who are limited in how fast they can alter their weight, but so long as you have control over your diet and exercise, you can change your weight, so to say its all in the genes is blatantly wrong.
I don't know what you define as fit, but if you don't work out, by my definition you're not fit. -

Eventually but I'm not really sure how much my dad is like 50 and eats a whole shit load and is still in pretty good shape. Idk it just runs in the genes to have a furnace down in the stomach. I know I wont always be able to eat the shit that I do now but I'll always have a big appetite I know that. Its just how my family is we're really high energy type people i guess. If ive learned anything from my mom (personal trainer) never starve yourself. Eat as much good food as you want. This will make you gain weight and strip fat. As far as working out I would go hard on cardio for like 30mins then lift when my heart rate is still up. If you really want to gain muscle fast drink a protien shake or somethin like that.

Age: 15
Height: ~5 feet 2 in/ ~ 155 cm
Weight: 115-120 ( my scale is crappy) Doctor said i weight ~120 though. But i had baggy/heavy jeans and a heavy coat..
And i'm not fat but im def. not skinny. Idk. Some friends say im skinny though. Might be culture..
So being ~6feet and only weighting 10-15pounds more than me is rather scary.. O_O -

Date: Wed, Jun 9 2010 09:01:20QUOTE (SPRiNGFiELD @ May 14 2010, 09:28 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>best strategy:
1) diet (but dont overdo it) and get used to the smaller diet and stick to it
2) run outdoors. (seriously, swimming and cycling dont work that good)
first things first, no matter how people say dieting is bad and crap, its the only way to go, because a body's metabolism differs from person to person, but once you get used to it, it will work out pretty well. just dont go to the point to diet till anorexia.
running (2.4 km ) + pushups (40) + situps (50) would be good if you were to do that like two times a week?
You're kidding right?
I don't think you've really done any actual swimming. -
