Saw a guy riding an electric variation of this bike around town the other day and I'm wondering wtf kind of recumbent bike this is and who makes it:

    Any thoughts?

As Davis, CA is verry bike-friendly. Everyone bikes. I've even had friends who were given a ticket for a BUI (biking under the influence); I was told it's very hard to do a round about when you're drunk. Anyway, I've seen this around a couple times actually. It looks...interesting. Not exactly commonplace but not too weird either.

Of course, I've also seen a 10 tall foot bike with an old man on top riding and I wonder how the hell he gets on. I'm not exaggerating either. I've seen him stop at intersections. To stop, he holds on to a tree branch.

I was being serious. That really was what he did.

Oh and the horizontal bikes seem to be pretty fast. Faster than cruisers, but not as fast as road bikes.

They are actually the fastest kind of bike there is. Much faster than road bikes on flat road. The world record for human powered vehicle was made at 82 mph on a fully closed recumbent bike. They are not as good uphill though, as one can not one's weight into the pedals in the same way as on a normal road bike.
