Who needs Themes. This is more than enough.
    Functionality.

But maybe you should take a look here:

actually thats not more than enough

    thats barely enough.

one thing you can do is group by artist/album, so that your playlist is more readable instead of seeing repeated muramasa - Lifull which is stupid
its also very useful to have the media library window so u can quickly search any music u have. album art is also godo to have

Actually that depends on how you use it. You recommend a media libary - but that is not even necessary. When my default-playlist in foobar is open, I have all my music lined up and can press strg+f and type 2 or 3 letters of the song/album/artist I'm looking for. Instantly, the results are lined up and I can easily play the song I want. I highly doubt that it would be faster with a music libary.
Cover Art - No thanks. Most albums don't even have art included and I'm too lazy to search them all (I know there are tools for that though).
And what is wrong with having all the tracks of an album lineup up? How else would you want it?

As I pointed out - it depends on how you can operate in the most efficient way and maybe how you are used to it. I've been using this system for 3 or 4 years now and I don't plan on changing it.
I had to install iTunes because I bought an iPod Touch (inb4 "there is a foobar plugin"). I was forced to create a media libary and it was a total disaster. All my folders were messed up, some tracks had wrong album tags, others didn't match with the way an artist is written. Thats so complicated - especially when you have a large number of songs.
I don't have the motivation to do anything like this as it works fine with foobar. Very fine I might say.

There's an option when you're installing to manage the folder structure yourself.

I don't understand why you kids don't just use iTunes, just about every foobar/winamp skin I've seen was ugly and unorganized.

I know. Thats what I did first. Using this you have no option whatsoever to
    - Add songs
    - Edit Tags
    - Add covers (lol yeah, back then I tried to collect all covers because it looks so fancy on iPod Touch)
I ended up creating a new music collection just for my iPod - which I deleted later because I use my phone for music again (better sound anyways lol)

I use iTunes because atm I could care less to try other players (tried winamp once, hated it).
And for covers and editing tags, I just use Mp3Tag because it does the job fast, and it does it right. Putting covers on in iTunes doesn't embed it = doesn't show up on Symbian phone.
And adding songs is easy...I keep all my songs in "My Music" and so I just select the "add folder to library option" and it adds whatever is new so I don't know what you're talking about tongue.gif

maybe you don't have enough songs, but usually i dont even know what artist I want. so I go by genre. sometimes I look by date. the music is arranged is easier to naviguate than long lists of individual songs. album-based navigation is much much better

media library to the left, playlist search to the right

for the playlist view itself, again album-based viewing is the best rather than individual.

easier to read than repeated album / artist information. too much useless text makes it harder to see the important text which is titles, song length.

bawahaha itunes library is a joke compared to foobar. foobar will just scan selected folder for correct file types. its very fast and it does nothing at all to the files.

Going by genre is not an option because most of the music I listen to cannot be defined as "one genre". Even if I go through the hassle of re-tagging all my tracks to be assigned to a genre (most of them aren't) I still would only confuse myself, looking for songs in the wrong category...

    Take the following for instance:
How do I define Dragon Ash? They started with doing a japanese aberration of oldschool-rap, then they made Punk Rock, after that Rap-Core and now they are doing some sort of acoustic thing... If I'm in the mood for some Dragon Ash it would be difficult to find it since they are either split in different categories or wrongly tagged.
Also - on their album "Harvest" is a lot of Drum'n'Bass/Breakbeat influence. So lets say I'm in the mood for some D'n'B. I open the D'n'B Tab but - Nope. No Dragon Ash since it would be wrong to group them with artists like Spor.
/EDIT: Yeah, in that case I could just go by the artist. But thats what I already do so.

    QUOTE
maybe you don't have enough songs

That might be the case. Since I only have close to 200 Albums/3000 songs it is not necessary to do any of this. I still have a nice overview by just looking at my playlist.

Does that matter in my case? Lets see...

I usually use the search-function so no.
Its true, when browsing my albums, it would be nice to only have one row for each album. But then again - I can just scroll down my playlist and I see all artists/albums flashing by. I even save one or two steps since I don't have to select/open an album.
