I just took my Geometry final and there was really only one problem that I didn't know how to do. It is as follows:
A hexagon has an area of 45 square meters. What is a side length?
I think you assume it's regular, but I'm not too sure. Anyway, work your magic, UPSB. -

are of a polygon is 1/2 heightxapothem. keep in mind that because its a hexagon, it makes 30,60,90 triangles. fit numbers that fit the formula, and meet the 30,60,90 triangle ratio
btw i had a D in geometry before taking the final(hope it goes up to a C atleast) so idk if what im saying is right -

If it's regular,
45 = ((rad3)(s^2)/4) * 6
Do the algebra
nevermind i was thinking perimeter. -

A hexagon contains 6 triangles, with angle A being the one with the center as a vertex, so therefore
45 = 6 (BH/2)
Area of a triangle is also 0.5bcsinA
360/6 = 60 (which is the measure of angle A in degrees)
so we have:
45 = 6 (0.5bcsin60)
since b = c (equilateral triangle)
45 = 6 (0.5b^2sin60)
45 = 6 (0.5b^2 (root 3/2)) >>> the sin of 60 is root three over two
b^2 = 17.3...
b = 4.16...
now to find side length
each of the two other angles are also 60 degrees, so all sides must be 4.16...
4.16 meters
i think
my math is rusty, i haven't done any in two days -

f dis shet lolz. I did horrible in geometry. alg 2 so much easier. same teacher 2 years in a row too

Split up the hexagon into 6 triangles, split the 6 into 12. From there you can tell that they are 30-60-90 triangles, so the partial side length is x, the hypotenuse is 2x and the longer side is root 3 (x). (root3x^2)/2 is the area of the smaller triangle, so 6 (root3x^2) = 45. Solve for x, blah blah, x = 2.08, multiply it by 2, so the side length is 4.16.
Edit: fuck, hoiboy beat me to it. -

Ah, never thought of using 1/2bc(sin A). Thanks guys!

I've learned from UPSB that some asians are complete idiots.
I've also learned from Troy that a lot of honor student Asians lack complete common sense. -

asians are "smart" cuz their parents beat it into them when theyr 5. but ya i totally agree. there are SOOO many asians that act like complete idiots and are just socially awkward.
