i recently keep thinking about thumbs. imagine your thumb is a finger that has no special attributes comparing to the other 4 fingers. then think some tricks.

    u can think of:
    bak as fl ta rev
twisted sonic bust as charge 12 > ta

hope these tricks can get u guys thinking. i think we feel thumb is "special" because the thumb can move more flexible than other fingers.
maybe its just me thinking too much.

The term "thumb" has existed before penspinning. Therefore, the term stays.

    QUOTE
    bak as fl ta rev
Backaround would not be a FL TA Rev because Backaround does not just go around a finger.

    QUOTE
twisted sonic bust as charge 12 > ta
Twisted Sonic Bust: Charge ~ Pass Reverse ~ Fingerless Fingeraround Reverse

Charge > Fingeraround never had a name.

Anyone whose even thought about it a little bit should have already realized that Thumbaround isn't anything special compared to the other Fingerarounds.

I've been treating my thumbs as I would any other finger for about 2 years now; I sometimes even grip the pen using my thumb.

I haven't gotten past T-1 shadows and reverses though...I think another interesting thing to explore would be treating your fingers as thumbs.

the thumb is special because it is opposable to all other fingers, that fact alone makes it worth a special status.

True, which makes it refreshing when someone uses it like any other finger

also the thumb only has two joints while the other fingers have three wink.gif
but the thumb is just another name for a finger just like index, middle, ring, and pinky

what sometimes puzzles me though is why the thumb isn't referred to as 1 and instead, the index is referred to as 1 huh.gif

Like Zombo said, the thumb is opposable. Adding to that, the two joints instead of three, and the fact that it is short and strong rather than thin and dexterous.. That is why it isn't a finger, plain and simple.

I dont really like using my thumb when pen spinning. Maybe once or twice, but i mostly make it spin through my 4 fingers as i find it more easier.

yeah a thumb is a thumb...
imo if you spin through the thumb it looks betterthan 4 fingers...

Thumb is... a special finger? The thumbs up sign gives people an idea of "goodjobness" but you can't give people the same impression with other fingers... I think I'm making no sense right now.. but this is just confusing me...

Japanese spinners use 12345 naming system.

And a thumb is just the name for the little guy attached to your hand... Is a pinky really a pinky? It's just a name. Who knows what you're getting at?

Is a thumb special? Yeah, it's special. So are your other four fingers. Treat them nicely and you can do amazing things with them.

A thumb is a thumb, that's how I see it.

Considering the thumb and just the thumb, it has nothing really special, even if he can be opposed to other fingers (however it's one of the few things that makes the difference between human and pets...).
Now, in penspinning, we have not realized I think how thumb can change our combos: Look at Frat's combo I think HE really uses his thumb as a special finger.

I've made a vid which tend to make realized what are the possibilities in penspinning with the thumb: only three tricks, but really special because they use thumb in nesting: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hSUoKlDj93Y
For exemple we can use thumb only as a "passage" finger: the thumb doesn't appeared in the breakdown of the initial and the final position, but we use it. Do an inverse sonic 23-12 but use your thumb as if it was your index and keep the pen between 1 and 2: you've just create something new!

Well it's only my point of view but I think we can make our combos better and better using thumb...
