Welcome to the Remedy Extended (RMDX) tutorial!

I am particularly proud of this mod, since it holds some sentimental value. Long story short...the original model of this pencil is the same one I have used for the past 6-7 years or so. When I went on my first modding spree during the first month of my pen spinning career I really wanted to do something with this pencil but I lacked experience and knowledge so I concluded that the pencil was unmoddable. However, one day sitting in class I realized that I was completely wrong and as such I have modded the pencil and it turned out exactly how I wanted it to.

Everything came together so smoothly it's almost like I was meant to make this mod happy.gif. It turned out very clean looking and even the internals fit together quite well.

I was going to make a tutorial sooner but school and life got in the way so there was a slight delay. In the process it gave me time to crash test the mod. I used this pencil exclusively for an entire semester and it has held up very well. In fact, im surprised it’s held up so well because I’ve dropped it a lot on hard surfaces.

    Some basic stats:
    -length is 18cm
    -COG=COP (or mine is anyways)
-Probably the only mech. pencil mod that actually has an eraser at the back without having to remove some cap
-The eraser is a twist eraser so the full eraser is 1.5inches long and is actually worth using unlike the puny eraser you get with a dr.grip shaker or the M-301 X dry.gif rolleyes.gif.
-it has a thick body…like a dr.grip body but since the ends aren’t really weighted this works out well because the thicker body allows easier spinning to compensate for lack of weighted ends.
-it isn’t really suited to do tricks in the ‘backaround’ family
-approximate cost is $10 (2x staedtler remedy pencils)

    So let us begin…

    1.
    The pencils you need:
    2x Staedtler Remedy mech. pencils

    2.

Take the pencils apart and cut where the red line is. The cut should be just to the right side of the “mm” written on the pen. You’ll notice that the inside of the pen in this section has jagged columns inside which is what will be holding onto the teflon tape later on.

Here’s a close up of where the cut needs to be (just to the right of the “mm” written on the body)

    3.

If you look inside the narrow plastic section in the above picture you will notice that partway down the inner diameter gets even narrower…we don’t want the smaller section. Make the cut 1.2cm as shown in the picture to get rid of the extra narrow internal section. The cut can be slightly shorter (1.0-1.1cm), just make sure you get rid of the inner narrow section. Only do this to 1 of the front sections. You need the second front section intact.

    4.

Take the section you just cut in step 3 and wrap teflon tape around the whole front part so both sides look parallel to each other and there is no longer a narrowing slant. After doing that, push the part cut in step 2 onto the piece with the teflon tape. It should fit on very tightly. The inner jagged columns should dig into the teflon tape and hold it very securely providing there is enough teflon tape.

Here is what it looks like when connected together.

    5.

Next up, grab both mech pencil tube sections. Take one of the tube sections and cut it right against the white section (top of the picture) so you get as much clear tubing as possible. You will want the whole second mech pencil tube section (so make sure you don’t cut both or you’re effed)

    6.

Take the second front section (the one you didn’t cut to 1.2cm) and insert the intact mech pencil tubing from the front. When you have it as shown in the picture you will want to tape the 2 pencil tube sections together.

!!! Make sure you don’t tape the wrong end of the plastic tubing (tube section that was cut in step 5). There will be one end that is thicker and another end that is narrower. You want to tape the narrower section to the intact mech pencil tube. You need the thicker end to connect with the white plastic piece that connects with the eraser. If you mess this up you will likely come back to this step to see what you did wrong because the narrower end of the cut plastic tubing will not fit into the white plastic piece that connects to the eraser !!!

Here’s what it looks like when taped together

    7.

(From left to right in the picture) get the thing you just made from step 6, the thing you made in step 4 and get the white plastic piece which connects to the eraser.

Screw the piece from step 4 onto the piece from part 6. After that, stick the white plastic piece onto the mech. pencil tubing completely.

    8.

Get the front grip and the metal tip. Put on the grip and then screw on the tip.

    9.

Screw on the last section (section with the clip) and lastly insert the twistable eraser (it should click into place against the white plastic piece).

    Final Product!

    Trouble Shooting Questions:
Q: When I press the back for lead, the middle of the RMDX (part with the teflon) gets pushed apart/off.
A: Add more teflon tape so it’s held on more tightly. If you follwed my tutorial then the plastic section touching the teflon tape should have those jagged plastic columns which will dig into the teflon tape and hold it extremely well.

Q: Does the clip get in the way when you spin it?
A: Of course, but it’s not that big of a deal and it keeps the mod looking like a regular pencil.

Q: Can I take the clip off?
A: Sure, but it will lose the look of a regular pencil

Q: Why do some black parts of the pen in the pictures look so worn out?
A: Because I only had the turquoise remedy pencil as the extra so I had to take apart the RMDX I was using and take pictures of it.

Q: Woah what?! The mighty K4S doesn’t have a million extra staedtler remedy pencils stashed away? lolol
A: ess tea eff you, I selectively hoard.

Q: When I press the back, the plastic eraser edge hits the main body preventing the full range of motion of the mechanical pencil mechanism.
A: You made the mech. pencil tube section too short so the eraser section is sitting too low and as a result it will hit the pencil body before it can fully be pressed down. Unfortunately, there’s no really good solution to this…you could shorten the middle section by filing it shorter or you could re-do the pencil tubing.

Q: I’m reading your Q&A section before making this mod and I have no god damn clue what the above question is talking about, but it sounds pretty important.
A: Basically when you pressed the back section down, the mech pencil mechanism inside should bottom out completely BEFORE the plastic edge of the eraser hits the main pencil body. In other words, the eraser plastic edge should NEVER be touching the main pencil body when you push it down to make lead come out. If it does hit the body then it’s likely the pencil mechanism inside cant be pressed down completely and the mechanism wont work as well. Got it? Good.

…stop lying to yourself, you still don’t get it. Here’s a picture of what it looks like when the eraser’s plastic edge doesn’t touch the pencil body when pressed down all the way

Q: How much trial-and-error / how many pens did you destroy for you to make this mod?
A: I design most of my mods step by step so I made this on my first try.

    Q: Happy new years!
A: Thanks, happy new years to you too.

Q: There are lots of spelling and grammar errors. You suck.
A: I’m sorry, I forgot the internet was serious business. Also I just pumped out 3 tutorials in 2 days: pictures, text and all. I’m tired so you can bugger off.

Q: This mod is pretty amazing, how did you think of it?
    A: I’m K4S.

is it as thick as a dr. grip..?
or somwhere between a mx and the dr. grip?

Hmm..k4s, out of all your mechanical pencil mods, which would you say spins best?

It seems really promising, but I'm scared it won't spin nearly as good as it looks.

Diameter of my RMDX is about 1.325cm, which is thinner than a dr.grip. RSVP body sits close to about 1cm diameter.

Only factoring spinnability, out of the ones i've released i would say my SARMPv2 with lead weights in the anyball retrac mechanism and without the shaker piece inside spins best. The best one for spinning would likely be my MP dr.KT for obvious reason. Personally though i like my RMDX the most simply because having a good eraser on the back goes a long way, especially since i use it most at school.

Awesome Mod. You're really releasing them all today lol tongue.gif

I bought a couple of these because i thought I could ust the tips, but they didnt work with what I has making at the time. I can't wait until I get back to school (I left them in my desk over my long winter break dry.gif )

I kind of liked your m-301 because of the metal body, however the eraser did not last long. mellow.gif
I am going to try this one now. happy.gif

btw, I must compliment your tutorial/mod making abilitys, they always go great cool.gif

PLease don't comment on super super old thread just to say "nice idea man" and how come you make a lot of MP "mods"
But the reason he makes MP's is becaus he is a pro modder so why make a normal mod when he can make a MP one?
