So anyone here doing magic (cards, coins, mentalism, whatever)
Im doing card magic and some other stuff like disjointed but here my newest video:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U3D951qp40E

    what do you think?

    post your vids biggrin.gif^^

great handling. but you should show that your other hand is empty first when on video.

    5/5 anyway.

i do a little card magic to increase the appeal of my flourishes, but only pure sleights, not gimmick stuff. laugh.gif

I used to learn some card magics last time.
Mainly from youtubes. I got a friend who is currently learning now, but he always refuses to teach.

And nice card tricks you have there, good handling. Btw, is this thread sort of like going to reveal the magics that anyone is doing?

    bah.. hope not.. smile.gif

it's mostly common sense for any sleight of hand stuff anyway. tongue.gif

I want to learn card magic.
Does anyone know a good book or DVD for the beginning ?

    I can do XCM.
I have learned almost all tricks from the Xtreme Beginnerz Vol 1 / 2 DVD

  7. TayYH89
    Date: Thu, Jan 10 2008 02:12:52

The Royal Road to Card Magic. The book is good, I'm not sure about the DVD set.

And, if you are really serious about doing solely on card magic, Card College is a good collection.

    Date: Thu, Jan 10 2008 10:18:37

yep card college is great but very expensive if you buy this in store wink.gif

  9. Alfvallarta
    Date: Sun, Jan 13 2008 15:03:20

As I read I was about to recomend RRTCM, but it seems I was too slow...Anyway, Both books above mentioned are great, but, if you want a DVD you could get E's Crash Course 1. http://www.ellusionist.com/product/dvd+tra...e+in+cards+1.do

  10. DaThroat
    Date: Mon, Jan 14 2008 09:23:26

oh man... don't ever get anything from E, especially not crash course. that's like.. just a rip off. ohmy.gif

well... that's just the way i feel.

  11. Kirbynator
    Date: Mon, Jan 14 2008 19:00:13

hm i think some things from E are great like wayne houchins sticmata or stuff like dat so i wouldnt say that everything is shit or something like that^^

  12. Alfvallarta
    Date: Mon, Jan 14 2008 20:07:20

DaThroat, you've gotta consider that we're talking of a begginer here, and I agree, E DOES have shitty stuff, but, as Kirbynator says, they've also got Stigmata, and stuff like Kaos, which is also a personal favorite of mine. And yes, you've got other good sites for purchasing or the forums, and I personally prefer T11, but you can't just go and see stuff in absolutes; nothing can be as bad that you can't find a single good thing there...(Of course, if you're more interested in forums, like me, you have many options: The Magic Café, Decknique,...)

  13. DaThroat
    Date: Tue, Jan 15 2008 06:21:15

ok sorry about that.. i guess i was a bit too condescending. sad.gif

anyway, i didn't say the tricks themselves were lousy. i was referring to the prices. tongue.gif

but most of the stuff can be figured out yourself anyway, or at least, a possible method.

  14. Kirbynator
    Date: Tue, Jan 15 2008 16:32:20

yeah youre right many things are too expensive wink.gif^^

  15. Alfvallarta
    Date: Tue, Jan 15 2008 21:15:35

Well, I've gotta hand that to you. You're absolutely right on prices, and yes; there's plenty of stuff you can figure out on your own. So, bottom line (at least mine) is to try and get the good stuff that anything's got to offer to you. Anyway, we're just on a wild goose chase here, I believe, so, as a final tip for anyone who's interested in card magic, besides the above mentioned books, practice not until you get it right, but until you can't get it wrong.

  16. DaThroat
    Date: Wed, Jan 16 2008 12:24:32

I'm gonna quote that a lot from now on. smile.gif

    even for pen spinning. laugh.gif

are there any free online tutorials for how to do magic...especially disappearing acts cause i wanna learn those
i kinda wanna incorporate them into my penspinning too >.<
or if not..can someone on here teach me happy.gif ????
i'd really like to learn, but i can't afford to get all those books and dvds...i'm not that rich wacko.gif

  18. TayYH89
    Date: Sat, Jan 19 2008 04:22:53

There are a lot of exposed magic tricks that are going around the internet. Just search hard enough and you'll find something. But of course, don't expect them to be good tricks. Some of them are plainly dumb.

  19. -JC-
    Date: Sat, Jan 19 2008 04:27:53

-_-'' can anyone on upsb then post a tutorial on a somewhat good trick?

  20. Alfvallarta
    Date: Sun, Jan 20 2008 18:56:53

-JC-, the thing is, that'd be exposure. And a magician doesn't come up easily with a mind-blowing dissapearing trick to give for free; it takes a great load of creativity and ability to come up with a trick, so if you're looking for a freebie it probably won't be a good one...although, sometimes you'll get lucky. For example, you could go to the 1-on-1 section on Theory 11 and look up the Jones Change. With a bit of imagination you can use it for PS (it CAN be done).

  21. -JC-
    Date: Sun, Jan 20 2008 21:38:55

    alright...thanks
i guess i'm kinda comparing magic and penspinning too closely together
just like how there's a tutorial for just about every ps trick/mod...i guess i kidna figured the same for magic -_-''

Edit: *sigh* there's a lot of coin/card tricks...not too many pen ones cause coin/card ones seem to be much easier
the only two vanishing pen ones deal with tossing the pen somewhere else and using the rubber band one...

I can do the cigarette trick. Made famous by cyril takayama.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l_nGL9thTHU

In fact, my goal in pen spinning is to combine magic with penspinning, and inventing more magic based pen tricks. =D
ZT would be a really good pen to do it. I MUST have it.

  38. Shadowserpant

lol... u cant USE gaff decks unless u can double lift
i suggest u learn a variation of the 3 card monte
just look the stuff up man, ill prolly pm u a tutorial or something later when i have time

  39. ikore
    Date: Sat, Jul 19 2008 03:24:02

heh alright after practicing about 2 weeks i can do some stuff double lifting, impulse charge (or change dont know...) tivo 2.0, and some other card changing thingy is that enough to start using gaffs lol?

  40. Shadowserpant
    Date: Sat, Jul 19 2008 04:15:11

well... i dont really know the names lol
the thing is, with a gaff deck especially, u just need to understand the uses of double lifting, and u make your own tricks

i made up my own fake shuffle thing its really simple, shuffle the deck sideways, whichever hand u hold it in, use your thumb to hold the top and your fingers to pull the top card, so that when you're shuffling the top card stays on top
sooo, u do the pick a card thing, have them put it on top
    fake shuffle
double lift, "is this your card?" no
    ok, hold it, face down.
fake shuffle again. "what card are you holding again?"
they tell u, u pull the top card, "but isn't that right here?"
they got shocked, look at their card, and it's the original card they picked
