    Pentel SuperbTH

    Difficulty level: Easy.
    Price: Medium
    Type: Double tipped Vortex.
Assemly / Modification Time: Around 10 Minutes.

This modification requests no glueing, no sawing, just two little cuts with an x-acto knife, scalpel or razorblade.
It is what I think a normal modification should be like. Simple in attachment.
Since I like to stay away from too heavy and long shortages, I just named it shortly, do not like shortages as SuperbHGG2G2RSGG etc. What the TH stands for? Do not wanna explain everything too obvious, it is my first mod I came up with myself, so I just want to start up with the explanations, that are necessary after all.

    Parts used:

Pentel Superb (BK-77) – Barrel, Tip, Inktube (90 Eurocents)
Pentel Hybrid Gel Grip (K116 or K118) – Tip, Grip (1,10 Euros)
Pilot G2 - Grip (Two Times) (2,20 Euros per pen)
Rotring Star Gels Grip – Tip (Four Times) (1,19 Euros per pen)

    Overall costs:
12,20 Euros – in comparison to a KT including shipping, handling, im-/export around 45 Euros.

Explanation: The Rotring Star Gels Grip are available as caped and retractables, this mod uses the metal tips from the caped versions. Rotring is famous for it’s rapidographs and isographs, and is known in America as “Sanford” Company.

    Facts:
    Positive aspects:
    - See Ouh Pee is See Ouh Gee (Center of Pen is center of Gravity)
As heavy as an MX^2, but the weight lies more in the ends.
    Good Momentum.
Can be disassembled to put all pens together again if not thought of as usable by the modder.

    Negative aspects:
A little expensive if you have to buy all and do not have some parts to spare.
Heavier double tipped mods exist, and might be prefered by other spinners.
Uses 8 pens, some famous for other mods, for a mod which yould maybe use less. Arguable.
    Non-Writer.

    Assembly:
After getting all the parts of the pens (The most ciddicult wil be getting the G2 Grips of, maybe this is the only part where you would like to cut / use a hacksaw…)Just push one of the Rotring Star Gels Grip Tips into one of the G2 grips. You can use the tipped or the back side of the Suberb to push it inside, until the tip is around the middle. This is the heaviest part of the modification, since it requires some heavy pushing into newly required and non-stretched G2-Grips.

Then, push the second tip of a Star Gels Grip in from the front, this is very simple.

Like you can maybe see well on the picture the HGG-Tip falls in simply from the back into the middle-positioned Star Gels Grip Tip. It fits perfectly. The Part with the HGG-tip inside is for the back of the pen.

Do the same for the front part. This time, after putting in the Rotring Star Gels Grip Tips inside the G2-Grip, you are finished, since the Suberb already has an original HGG-tip, holding in the inktube.

After assembling the two tips, take of the HGG-Grip and cut it in the middle. If you want, you can make a second cut to get of the ring first, maybe for a clear ring cut using with MX^2 modifications.
Stiff / Put / whatever the half grips over the Superb’s sides, one on the back, one over the Metal tip. Just enough so it aligns with the plastic cap in the beack or the metal tip.

Finally push the two premade tips over (maybe you have to twist them a little, so that the HGG grip does not make “waves” and misshapes the G2-Grip) and you are done. Hope you like it.
Have fun, and please gimme feedback, when you made it happy.gif.

Additional: You can easily disassembly the pen, for example to srew off the metal tip and getting in an insert. IF you wanna disassemble it again,do it fast, so the G2-Grips do not wear of by stretching too long over the Rotring Star Gels Grip tip.

    SuberbTH Variation:

    Bic CristalTHGel

Just use a coloured Bic Cristal Gel instead of the Suberb. This is 1 cm longer, a little lighter, has a completely round barrel with a very smooth feeling and is 50 cents cheaper. Downpoint: You can not get in inserts, since these pens are nonrefillable.

Pics for maybe clearing off some questions:

The Pentel Superb (BK-77) used in the original mod.

The Bic Cristal Gel I used for the Variation. Although available in Black, Red and Green.

The Rotring Star Gels Grip, which you will use just the tips of. Just for people who want to know what they are searching when asking for this pen.

All Parts needed for the assembly, showing with the BIC Cristal Gel

    Push, push, push….
The Star Gels Grip tip into the G2 grip, you can use almost anything to do it. Just restrain from using your naked fingers, it hurts… 0_o

See the thicker part? This is where the part with the biggest diameter from the first tip is in, nearly half of the grip of the former Pilot G2.

Just shove in the second Rotring Star Gels Grip tip from the front, this is maybe the easiest part of assembly.

The HGG-Grip falls easily into the Star Gels Grip tip, and fits perfectly. See the next picture ^_0

    Cut HGG-Grip

The half HGG-Grip put over the barrel of the pen. In this case the Bic Cristal Gel.

This is the last step, you’re already done! Come on, you can make it, just hold on a little longer, little fella…..you own, you’re my man, do not disappoint me, this is easy, you can and you will do it… (sure, overstretched, who cares? Me think funny…. ^__^ )

Finished pen, close up to one of the sides, bot look identical.

The BK77, although known as Pentel Superb is able to get inserts. The Bic not, a onw-way-pen, once empty, throw it away.. or mod it.

The Bic looks great without insert, I believe, just sitting in Photoshop doing an insert for the Superb... happy.gif

Will post it soon and a pic of the pen.
Do not hope for too much...^_0

Nice job using less common pens to make an excellent mod. Its clean, not too costly, and looks like it spins great.

Excellent tutorial! Comprehensive and crystal clear explanations, using the aid of pictures to clarify and demonstrate ideas.

I appreciate the extra effort you took to take pictures of the tips happy.gif

The way the parts fit together makes me want to make one too.

I really enjoyed reading your tutorial; thanks HOINK!

pretty nice tutorial. I like how you go really in-depth with it. I can see that you took your time. It might be a little hard for U.S. spinners to get some of the parts, but besides that, looks very clean. Good Job!

A con with this mod is... You don't get "much" for the cost, and Cristal Gel bodies are quite fragile :/ Even though I like how you've made it, it has some kind of not all too advanced spinning level feel over it (the pen that is, the tutorial itself was awesome ^^).
