ooo (sorry can't find that key ^^' ) is absolutely amazing, everything goes together perfectly.
Eso, quite disappointed, don't like the actual theme and the background doesn't to too well with it, then again that could just be my taste.
Zombo, pretty nice coordination, but I don't really appreciate the theme, kinda weird with those lines on the windows.
I'll post mine if ever I have time to clean out my desktop ^^'

@Eternal: there is no Start button/menu. I use a Litestep theme that has a 1-pixel border all along the right edge of the screen. I just fling the mouse over to the right and right-click to get my root menu.

The album cover thing? It's a Samurize config that uses the AMPI plugin to display the cover.jpg inside each of my album directories, with some track info on top of it.

@Zombo: it's a Samurize config that is displaying both info from foobar2000 (the track info) and a folder full of images (the artist photo). I use a keyboard shortcut to launch/close the config.
I'm using foobar200 with the Default UI, but the actual program is currently minimized to the tray.

Here's my latest desktop.
Everything is highly customized thanks to my own coding ^.^
The base of the litestep theme is some other seem I saw, but it had a few things I didn't like... plus it wasn't compatible, so I wrote my own theme that's very similar. Highly functional
And... all of my winamp functions, and a lot of other things, I've coded into the LSX command... So I can control almost everything right from there.

foobar 0.9.5.1 comes in with built-in layout now. It's less customizable than doing it yourself with all the components, but it's a lot less trouble -

the thing is,
in my case, I NEED to customize the metadata display.
the regular tags %title%, %artist%, %album% are always in the original language (i.e. japanese, korean, chinese), while the custom tags (I created) %eartist%, %etitle%, %ealbum% are in English, and thus the default display does not show those. -

@nolan: I recently installed Litestep using the open-source installer after reinstalling WinXP. I grabbed the installer here which gave a nice step-by-step install. It comes with a default theme that can get you up and running while you learn how to use the shell.

I also recommend the installer presented by sketching.
There are a few things I would like to add though.
In order to get litestep functioning the way you want it to, you're going to have to put some effort in. You'll spend a lot of time configuring text files. At first, you may be overwhelmed, but I insist that you push on and get through it. Once you learn how to modify litestep, you'll be on top of the world. Do not neglect looking at module documentation, because it is the most important thing to litestep other than the modules themselves. Make sure you always look at the documentation, ask for help when needed, and look over the configuration files of your current theme that comes with the installer so that you can relate the documentation with the configurations. Looking at these two things together is sure to help you progress very quickly into the litestep world
My current desktop, this one is a remake of my other. I started from scratch with the newest of all modules necessary. So, this is entirely my own other than the design idea, which came from another theme I've seen in the past. By the way, the clock in the bottom corner is a functional LSXCommand, the V has click commands to display volume and progress controls for both the system and windows. The top left display shows the time and date when winamp isn't playing, but shows the song and progress when it is. Everything else is pretty self explanatory.

Showing off my new Rainlendar2 skin. I finally got around to figuring out how to skin the updated version. Not difficult, once you actually dive into it.
- Wallpaper: It Was a Beautiful Day by kol
- WinXP visual style: Luna Element 5.0.05 (Black) by tornado5 -- the theme is not seen, but my Litestep theme is made to match.

Found out yet? Right click any item on the dock and go to 'Icon Settings...' then click the little + sign above the preview pane. Browse for the folder holding the icons you want to use and then it'll be added under 'Folders'. Easy on from there. -

How do you guys adjust rainmeter so that it'll still show when i press the desktop icon on vista?
They said not to put always on bottom or something like that because it'll interfere with the vista aero interface.
Any other settings just make the rainmeter stuff disappear when i click on the desktop icon. -

Rainmeter is the thing that KunLin has on his desktop that looks all sexeh (it shows the time, notes, calendar, CPU Usage, etc).
And that guy is asking how to keep rainmeter from being hidden when clicking the show desktop button, and strat is being sarcastic and saying not to click it at all.

I just mean with the sidebar. That looks kind of weird to me, and that's really the only way I can do it with still being able to see it. I can use the stuff on there now though. I'm always losing track of the date and the day of the week, sometimes I just want to see my tweets without opening chrome, I don't want to use CAD, I would like to use google calendar if I can get it working, sometimes I just need to quickly access my recycle bin, and I like monitoring how much hard drive space I have (holy shit I'm already using 370 gb). I'll probably get used to this since it's all I really need. I also use launchy now since I got rid of start menu icon c:

But my cousin and I shared it, last year he was playing at CAL level and then the entire account got banned because he was running scripts/custom skins and I was like WTF, since when can they tell that you have a custom skin. -

and then wanted to get rid of the cpu and ram and memory info without messing other stuff up, but couldnt' figure it out..

now i just want some rainmeter design like things invented.. that i can use like stickers, and put them around my desktop, but actually have no purpose at all aside from looking nice -- since that's why i dl'd rainmeter in the first place lolol

I did the same thing, but I think they changed it a bit. I reinstalled and everything's easy enough to use now. -
