General Discussion / Pen Spinning Is Killing Me

Well, it seems like I get a new hobby every year, and this time, my poison is pen spinning.
It has distracted me from school work so much, that my grades have dropped because of it.
Ever since I found UPSB, I no long work out. Instead, I sit my ass down in my computer chair and type and spin.
Then, it has cause me to be secluded from others since I have been entering tournaments and collabs.
Then modding? Jesus, I've spent so much fucking money, time, and effort into this stuff.
I look back, and realize, my time could have been spent better.
All in all, I can't really moderate my time.

Does anyone else have this issue?
Does anyone have any recommendations to solving my problems?

Take a month off from being so active. Stop modding, you probably already have of mods to use for a month. Stop posting and filming. For a month, find other things to do to fill your time in ways that you think are better. After a month, come back and see how you feel.

I'm going on vacation and I think I'll leave my pens at home...

well, i am not on my comp all day, my grades are okay (but not in math ERRRRR) but i just do it as a hobby...dont let it take you over, its a hobby...just dont get SOOOOOOOOO into it that it takes over your life...you'll be fine..just take a break from the computer for a while and you will find that the computer, is your problem...seeing mods that you want, and spending money, and making things that you dont need...but just take a small break from the computer...

You just gotta restrain. Get involved in something that makes you move. Im getting a job when the Wawa around the corner opens up. I just bought my last bunch of pens. Im now going to trade instead of buy pens.

Its hard to give up something that you love, but you have to stay moving.

    Have you gained any wieght?

I would suggest picking up BMX.

That way, you can still spin when your not BMXing, and you get exercise.

Pen Spinning is what I feel defines me.
It's the one talent I have, and no one else near me has it.
People watch in shock and awe when I do basic combos.
I am known for being the kid that spins.

I don't have a BMX bike, and I don't have the money to get one nor the place to properly enjoy that sport.
And I don't want another Weis incident....
I haven't gained weight, but I feel less healthy.

I suggest you do take that break. When you're PSing and doing something else, like homework, the focus is split and probably doing only 70% of your actual potential if you're at least looking at the paper and reading. It's even worse if you have a book out but looking directly at the pen itself.

While I do agree with this, I don't think he should write with g2's. His obsession to pens will cause him to naturally think about how he could mod a G2 into a MMT or whatever it's used for.

It's better for him to find a used, sharpened pencil in a decent length that it's impossible to even perform a charge.

Seriously, since you can't stop yourself from spinning, just do it when you have nothing else do, say, school work's finished. Spend your time like how you do it before you got addicted. Stay away from the PC (block this site) and ask your mom/bro/sis/dog to hide your pens (you can give it to us, if you want tongue.gif). Get other hobbies. Get laid. laugh.gif

I pen spin anywhere I go, but I don't find that a big problem, it's not affecting me negatively.

I think it's because you are just doing the wrong way. Pen spinning is making your life bad? Maybe you should consider to quit spinning. Sorry, I am very direct.

Regretted for starting to pen spin? Sounds very like it to me.
Whenever there is a pen, there will be pen spinner.
Whenever there is a computer, there will be a gamer.
Whenever there is a yoyo, there will always be someone who plays it.
Hobbies are something you do and you are really enjoying it. When you are enjoying something, will you think it's bad?
I do read Eso's blog, and recently his title of his newest post was, "Pen Spinning Accomplishments". Not, "I wanted to quit pen spinning, it's doing me bad!"

Like I said before, if you think your hobby are doing you no good, quit it then. There are tons of people really enjoyed their hobbies and played it for years and years. Pen spinning is one of them.

There is tons of issue that pen spinners are being so called "out casted" by people as we are being sees as someone with strange hobbies. But we are not complaining and wanted to quit.

If you guys really thinks that pen spinning is killing you, quit it then. I only want those people who respect this hobby to be in this community.

whatever activity / hobby / work / etc uses time

wasting time is when you think it is useless.. when you pen spin. it is useful if yea.. hobby likes and stuff..

however .. overdoing will use more time (waste time?) when you use more time you have lesser time for other activities.. having only 24 hrs a day you have no choice...

Suggestion will be time management.. thats all.. it wont kill you.. because i can prolly say

*doing hw is killing me... it is wasting my time.. whatever. it is the same... this is like

*insert activity here* is killing me.

and you can say fairly about the same thing...

    summary... time management..

    whatever.....

I'm kind of the same way. I get a hobby around every year that I do/play intensly, then try something new. I've gone through all kinds of juggling, yo-yo, world of warcraft, psp modding, and now pen spinning.

I still keep up with my other hobbies (except for WoW, then messed up my priorities alot), but focus more on penspinning as of now.

I only really started modding pens in november of last year, and have spent a considerable amount of money on parts and such.

I've stopped ordering parts, and buying new pens now, and it doesn't take over my free time anymore. I've taken up going to the gym (again) and focusing more on schoolwork.

Maybe you should just try to take a break from modding, keep the pens you have (as they are probably sufficient) and focus more on work or something else.

I hope this helps man. Good Luck.

I think that the main thing that takes up all your time is UPSB. If you just spun, you wouldn't be sitting at the computer all day. If you spun as much as you were posting, you would get muchhh better.
And for your spinning in school making you get lower grades, pretend that everyone around you thinks you're crazy for spinning a "modded" pen. That stops me from spinning in some classes tongue.gif

dude, you are me. no WoW for me, but psp modding and hobby changing, yeah.

stopped making themes upon release of 3.71 m33. I made some decent themes, too, like actually using photoshop, not useing other ppl's parts. The quality wasnt like inacor, but hey.

OP: balance your time and don't mod any pens, just spin with what you have. If it doesnt distract you (or teacher) spin in school for practice and don't spin as much later.

I'm not really addicted tho (all pen mods i have have been made from stuff i found or had already -- couple bictories, rsvp mxes, cx, nothing expensive or exotic but they are ok smile.gif ) and i barely spend time on upsb, but i know what its like to spend too much time on a forum. Just go cold turkey, it gets easy after the first couple days, just find other things to occupy yourself.

pen-spinning has been killing me since 8th grade.
    its all i do.
its all i want to do.
its a lifestyle that you can get used to.
i lol'd at spending 50 dollars on pen wish
since i'm planning on spending 150 - 200 when i actually go to the store
    LMFAO

If you think it's killing you, just quit.

Or if you feel that browsing UPSB is the thing that is sucking up the bulk of your time, stop spamming so much and actually SPIN more. tongue.gif

Don't worry too much, your obsession will soon fade given your track record of hobby hopping.
