Competition organized by PSAJ aimed at choosing the best spinner in Japan.
It says, after preliminary rounds on the Internet in the middle of February, the final will be held in a venue in late March. -
Date: Thu, Feb 7 2008 12:42:34
Really cool =D
I'm looking forward to seeing what spinners will compete. Is the tournament sponsored/held by Takara Tomy? -
Date: Thu, Feb 7 2008 12:53:21
Well, it doesn't say anything about sponsorship... We haven't got much information yet.
The tournament is organized by PSAJ, of course. -
Date: Thu, Feb 7 2008 13:45:42

The JEB tournament seems to have been shut down because of hacking or something.
Plus, JEB tournament isnot a real Japan Pen Spinning Tournament itself. -

Sponsors: Takara Tomy which released PEN'Z GEAR, Shueisha which will issue PSAJ official books, Pentel, Pony Canyon by which the tournament will be released on DVD
The preliminary rounds with about 300 participants on the Internet should start within a week because it says that the vote for 16 finalists is going to be held for around a month.

Stuttgart Live Tournament in BW (Germany)
It was a small, 100% offline tournament...
Also... the Korean Finals (Taeryong vs. Nory)
was IRL too -
Date: Sun, Feb 24 2008 13:42:35
This is the first truly "Official" tournament though. Afaik those two you mentioned were only for GPC and KPSA/PDS members, this one is not hosted through some kind of forum but through the official penspinning organization in Japan; PSAJ. In the Korean tournament, many (KTH for example) weren't able to participate, and in the Stuttgart tournament it was the same (in Stuttgart it wasn't even ment to be some kind of "National Tournament", just a regular smaller one).
This is just the first National Penspinning Tournament ever (either online or IRL), no?
@ Aphsamoth: I just guessed that it could be CrAsH, I have no idea :P -

Yes, I know what you mean. Actually, this tournament is organized by PSAJ itself, not exactly through forums.
http://ptj2008.pen-spinning.org/user/login/
Period for the preliminary: February 28th 2008 to March 16th 2008
Qualifying results announcement: March 23rd 2008
It says currently they only accept participants' videos and those videos are going to open to the public on about March 7th.
And, just note that you have to be a member of PSAJ to participate in the tournament, though I don't know whether or not they can accept participation from abroad. -
Date: Fri, Mar 7 2008 11:05:35

The videos have now been released! Only memebers of PSAJ can vote or leave any comments though. -
Date: Fri, Mar 7 2008 12:43:04
Nice!
I watched some of them. Really good spinning, and I like that they are ~15 seconds long! What was the time restriction? -
Date: Fri, Mar 7 2008 13:02:23
I watch some of combo.
All are awesome
I have got some trouble to watch that made me cant watch all of it
Did you have plan to made dvd all spinners in all round?
If yes I 'll pay for that -

I guess they're just going to release the videos of the finalists or someone on DVD.
And yea, some are nice actually. I hope more and more spinners will participate in the tornament and it will grow into larger one. Besides, Crasher seems to take part in the tournament under another name. -
Date: Fri, Mar 7 2008 14:55:05
Oh wow! That's a lot of videos! It'll take at least several hours to just watch them all. I hope the cameras at the venue get a good angle going.
Thanks for the link, Aphsamoth. -
Date: Fri, Mar 7 2008 15:19:19
Well but I want more spinners to take part in this. We have only around 60 participants yet, though PSAJ thinks we'll have about 300 participants in this tournament...
Not at all dude.
And also, Mantis has changed his name into "Crosfdatla", by the way. -
Date: Tue, Mar 11 2008 13:56:15
PEN'Z GEAR "bonkura version".
Spoiler:
PSAJ and Takara Tomy have decided to produce a special version of PEN'Z GEAR. And, they're going to give ones to the top 200 participants in the preliminary round and to 300 visitors to the venue by lot. They're also going to give RSVPs on which 日本ペン回ã—å”会, PSAJ or something is printed to the rest of the participants.
As far as I know, there are currently two kinds of PSVPs where PSAJ or something is printed; green and blue. Both of them looks like the Razzle-Dazzles in those colors. And, on the green one "第一回日本ペン回ã—å”会ç·ä¼šè¨˜å¿µ" is printed while its original pen spinning logo and "P.S.A.J." are printed on the blue one.
As you see, all the participants will aquire bonkura PEN'Z GEARs, at the current moment. The deadline for posting penspinning videos is March 16th, in 4 days, so the number of participants will increase anyway, though.

Hi Guys,
Saw this post about the tournament in Japan, thought i would post in it.
Yeah i was the foreign spinner that was over there and it was an amazing experience to be there to saw the tournament love and to meet all the spinners. They were all really friendly and attempted to speak english with me which i found really cool. For a complete list of spinners there, there was:
RYO, Key3, Ayatori, Sunrise, kUzu, Nikoo, Toro, Saizen, awawa, Mizm, Pesp, Silver, 337, Scissors, SEVEN, Kentei, Haze, Aysh, Kitchee, Winter, Crasher, Kunekune, ZYAVUXA, KEN, PenSOn, IMU, Mantis, coco_A, enot, i think thats a list of all the big names, there were many other beginner spinners there who came to watch the tournament.
I read somewhere that people want videos of SEVEN spinning, i have a few videos of him spinning some of my pens over at the gathering, but im not sure if he will allow me to post them up or not, ill have to ask his permission first. Same with completel videos and photos of the gathering, we might released a Tokyo Off CV, but again i need permission about the videos and photos from the spinners that were involved.
To be honest i was a little confused at the time also about who won and who didn't, i saw the xbox 360 and i thought it was the first prize, i saw key3 won the xbox 360, but then i found out afterwards that the first prize was a pay back for their travel. SEVEN won his travel trip payed for, and key3 got second place, the 360. ZUNDA came 3rd, RYO came 4th.
I was told a few minutes before the tournament that i had to give an opening and closing speech at the opening and closing ceremonies, so if anybody sees this video footage, it was something really made up quickly before hand, i didn't have much time to think of what to say.
I was only there for 6 days, i didn't have much time to visit much around Tokyo, so i plan to go back maybe this summer or something.
Take care guys,
CrAsH -

At the moment, the only people who have close ups of his combo are the tv companies who where there filming the event, i don't think anybody else would have them. I have some videos of him doing similar combos with some of my pens at the gathering when he was teaching some other spinners there, but right now im at uni so i don't have a chance to ask his permission if i can upload it. When i have his permission i will let you know.
From my own experience after speaking with him and watching his spin, he is amazing spinning live, he pulls off some crazy tricks every time, to be honest im not really supprised he won it with the tricks he pulls off. -

Yeah it is really really expensive to travel in Japan, when you are over there you will find out. I took the trains quiet often over there with the spinners and on my own when i arrived and i was so supprised with the cost myself. I had researched the prices before i left so i wasn't so shocked on the spot but in general the fares are really expensive. -

If anyone is having trouble going through Seven's blog for some of his combos/video you may want to check out the JEB spinning party 2. He has a small combo at the end.
