Philosophy / annoying reason of ps'ing

Hey, i just wanted to ask you all something. When i started pen spinning i got to say, i only started to be unique and different. This is because like only one person in the whole school pen spinned and it looked soo cool! Now its like every second kid has an RSVP MX and pen sp ins. It's kinda annoying, so annoying that i may think of quitting! Before i would practise to perfect my skills and show of, but now there is no one to show of to! Lol plz tel me wat u think of it

so basically you're saying you want to quit because you can't improve fast enough and the others kids are catching up to you?

what did you try to do? gain some respect by learning only the fundamentals...?

weak man... you won't get anywhere with that kind of attitude.

if others at your school start learning and push you in the back, then strive to be better than the competition.

I think you will like it even more if you have some decent spinners which can at least tell the difference between a hard and a hardER trick when they see you pull off those sick moves (eventually).

Pretty weak reason to quit Pen Spinning, that's weak sauce. sleep.gif You're almost like the freshmen I taught Pen Spinning a while ago. He started making mods soo I figured he's engaged. All of a sudden, 3 months later he quits because all he does is freestyle and do the same trick over and over again. He didn't even progress at all and he said PS'ing is stupid. dry.gif

I have to agree with everyone above. If your main reason for PS is to be different, then you'd better go find another underground hobby and wait for that to get popular before moving onto something else. Every once and a while, someone's hobby is bound to get popular, especially with the internet making the spreading of information so easy to do. Who knows, pen spinning may die down, then you can get back into it later. wink.gif

  7. 11Thrasher11
    Date: Mon, Feb 11 2008 04:52:26

What a lame reason. I can see why you would want yourself to be the only pen spinner in your school so you can get all of the attention but just because other people spin should not make you want to quit.

Nice call, to me pen spinning is something I do for fun between lectures and when I'm at home. But at the same time I want to progress and learn new stuff because I like pushing myself.

If you were just pen spinning to impress others then go become a magician.

  9. -JC-
    Date: Mon, Feb 11 2008 06:07:29

i have to agree with everyone's comment thus far
yes, i pen spin to be different and cause it looked so cool as well in teh beginning, but once i started to get into it and past the fundys, i started to practice in school with the thought that other people may find it cool as well and pick it up as well when they see me spin

so now i spin in an attempt to make other people start penspinning

why would you want to be the only one able to penspin? don't you want friends to spin with you and practice with you and talk about it with you?

there are several people in my school who are started to pen spin a bit because of watching my spinning and i'm glad that they are, rather than upset about it because i'm not "special" anymore

and because they're fairly good now and you don't have anything "new" to "show off", you want to quit? pshh, there are so many people on this board that are soooo much better than you are and better than me too
what do i do in such a situation? i try to GET BETTER dry.gif
and even in school, xero is much better of a spinner than i am, but i dont' quit because i can't spin as well as he can...i strive to improve and become better so that one day i could possibly be as good as he is and then hopefully become on par with any of the good spinners on this board that i admire as a spinner

dont' be so conceited to spin to get attention by being "different" from everyone else
    spin for your own enjoyment

if you really dont' actually "enjoy" penspinning and improving in it, then dont' penspin at all
don't leave a black mark on the penspinning society by making the rest of us seem like we spin to get attention and compliments on how amazing our spinning is in the public... cause i doubt any of us do dry.gif

okay, that's the end of my rant happy.gif
that makes two people that i got pissed off at on the upsb today sad.gif
    *sigh....*

I don't like talking like this but..

The only reason why you have no one to show off to anymore.. Is because you have no unique tricks or whatever to show. You only learn the basic stuff, or stuff that you can manage easily rather than more complicated stuff that takes more practice because you only want to take the minimum amount of time it takes to be able to do some fancy stuff with a pen and show off to everyone. If you really want to show off that badly, then get better. No one likes seeing the same stuff all the time.

    Quoted for great justice.

I think no one is "different" in the sense you want it to mean. Out of the total population, there's BOUND to be someone similar to you. Sounds like you're trying too hard to be different than the rest of the crowd. mellow.gif

I do agree that pen spinning is some unique hobbies that we have.
Everybody will have their own reason to pen spin. Whether is to show off, pass time, or addiction(like me =x) and whatever the reason is.
But honestly speaking, I only like selected people to pen spin, example, those people that I classified as people with some mature thinking? Cos I don't like quitters i guess, or some freak who spins for some time and going around showing off that they are good.

When I started to pen spin for the first few months, it's kinda boring actually, I don't have friends around me to discuss with. From my point of view, if you think pen spinning is a great art, influence others to like it too.
The more people in the community will do some good for the art of pen spinning!

  14. Invincibleman

Seriously, I originally only learned pen spinning to learn the fingerpass, but once I looked into it I found that I really enjoyed it. In North Carolina there are not that many pen spinners. The only pen spinners in my school that I know of is me and a kid who came here from Korea. If everyone started pen spinning I still wouldn't care> I would take pride in the fact that a white and nerdy kid like me managed to start a trend. Imagine if Kam just quit spinning because he said too many people did it now. That would suck pretty bad wouldn't it.

Same thing happened at my school, one person started spinning (not me) and everybody started doing it, there had to be like at least 3 unique people in every class who would spin/have a modded RSVP. Now people have lost interest and theres only about four people who still do it seriously. I think everybody quit for the same reasons as the OP tongue.gif

then u are very, very unique wink.gif

no, dont do ps just because you want to be unique.... maybe you might do it to win battles in former times or something like that, it's ok. but dont do it JUST for reasons like this. firstly you should do it because it makes you fun.
if there is no fun, you wont get really good some day.
and believe me, if you are good, really good, you are unique again wink.gif.

LOL! I know a guy in my school who's like that...He has beard and everything...but I think birds pooped in it, cuz it stinks. Ha well the only people who get amazed at my ps'ing are some redneck kids who see me do a sonic and go "woah how dya do that" and think I just threw my pen into the air and caught. Usually teachers don't mind my pen spinning except when people ask me how to do it and try to learn during class. So people are constantly dropping pens.

  24. -JC-

during this one class i have, i would spin a bit and then see the guy next to me try and do a ta and fail...
and then i'd do a bunch of other tricks and then i see him put his pen down and give up happy.gif

so i dunno, is that what you're looking for? for people to admire you, want to be liek you, but never actually able to be like you?
for that one guy, i would try and teach him how to do it after class, but if he doesn't wanna practice at home, oh well...

if the other people in your school are enthusiastic about it, it shouldn't be a reason for you to quit

and i enjoy having other spinners in my school cause then i can make collabs with them (someone had mentioned this) once we get better since currently, all the spinners around us aren't too good xD

Dood. Same at my school. People go like, "DEWD HOWD JOO DO DAT?!" And I try to explain, but they just throw it in the air and catch it. I've managed to teach most of my friends the thumbaround, and a few have Sonics down, but that's it. It's fun when people learn with you, doing one thing all by your lonesome self is just poop. Yeah. that is sooo rightt. In my school, my friends are starting to think I'm having my own world since I'm the only one who penspins in school. Everytime they see me do a trick, they just try to copy it and then pens fly in the classroom, then they get frustrated cause they can't get it right, then they even hide my pens just so I can stop spinning(for a while tongue.gif ). Though it may be lonely spinning all alone, I think it's cool to be able to do something others can't, but I still wish I have a friend who is atleast interested.
