Philosophy / Six fingers

All of us (or many) know that there is people with six hand fingers. I have seen a videos that all of six fingers work properly. Imagine if one of them started pen spinning. At begining it would be strange for us (unusual) but when the person would get to 'pro level'. I think it would be awsome! He could do many things that we can't.

are you sure those people can control the 6th finger as good as the other fingers? i thought its just stuck there and they cant move it separately. if thats the chase, its just an hindrance

  3. walkingjacket
    Date: Fri, Feb 15 2008 20:46:19

I know this guy who has a 6th finger, but he can't move it. It's like... a finger stuck on top of another finger.

  4. Salvis
    Date: Fri, Feb 15 2008 21:09:41

There was TV show at TV where they show many strange and unsual things. There was one guy who had six fingers and he's 6th finger were doing great. At some video at metacafe i saw a roentgen picture where each finger had their own platform and the 6th finger had all bones like normal fingers.

    6th finger -> genetic-mistake

It's more or less luck if you can move your finger and get benefits from it or if it's just a random mutation that pops out of ya hand.
That evolution. . mutations become "normal" and the evolution goes on.

  6. xshadowfire
    Date: Fri, Feb 15 2008 21:52:06

6 fingers isn't a genetic "mistake," it's caused by polydactly which is a trait just like any other. Saying it's a mistake is like living in Asia and saying people with blond hair and blue eyes have genetic mistakes.

  7. ZaX
    Date: Fri, Feb 15 2008 22:42:25

Then just call it a genetic-mutation what ev' i didnt want to harm anyone. . there still a huge diffrence between blond people and guys who have 6 fingers but can only use 5 0.o

Hmmm but what about spinning. Any comments? happy.gif

  9. Mats
    Date: Sat, Feb 16 2008 12:56:09

    5th finger?

Doesn't seem like a great advantage in pen spinning, it would just be an extra slot to do tricks in and make FingerPass harder.

    Hell yea!

If you could move the 6th finger really easy like you indexfinger or something the spinning would be much more 'longer' and looks more advanced. I think it would be very cool if you had a 6th finger ^^

If I had a choise the chose to have 5 fingers or 6 I would defentley(?) chose the 6th finger.

    Imagine a shadow rise from 45(?) to 12 =D

    My opinion- movable 6th finger=godly person laugh.gif

Also, do you mean 11 total or 12 total?

  13. Novastrike
    Date: Sat, Feb 16 2008 18:49:47

I didn't know of anybody with 6th fingers. But I do have a friend with a total of 12 toes. 6 on each side.
But the 6th toe like what others had mentioned, he cannot move it at all.

  14. Tialys
    Date: Sun, Feb 17 2008 04:28:25

Polydactyly. Chances are rare the person would have it and even rarer that they'd spin.

If someone who has 6 fingers do spin pens, then what are they gonna name the 6th finger?I mean, the 5th finger is called Pinky finger right?
So what are they gonna call the 6th finger?

Mutation extension? All in caps, and in bold. So much for the nice number notation.
    Not really, jk laugh.gif

I think it could be called mini finger. Or extra finger, even though it may or may n
ot sound a bit bad to some people.
Anyway, I knew a guy who told me he knew a guy who knew a guy (oh yeah, it gets better laugh.gif )

that one guy had a second thumb. It worked out great for him, and he said that it's really handy.
But hey, it kind of makes you wonder where the 6th finger would be situated. It could be lined up nicely like the 4 fingers we have (not counting the thumb), but it could also be poking out from the side of the index finger. What if it were on the back side of the hand?

i had a friend who had 2 thumbs(both hands), the 2nd thumb was as big as her 1st thumb, i taught her a thumbaround, and the pen goes around the two thumbs. she just get used to stick the thumbs together. lolx!!!

but then, at february, she done surgery to remove the extra thumbs.

i have another friend (a boy) who had another small pinky finger, maybe 1.5cm. its short, not useable in pen spinning i think, he can move his right one but the left one is retarded.

Ever heard of that thing where if you loose something on the body you gain something elsewhere? Like if you're blind you're hearing is awesome lolz ><. You guys might not know this, but having 6 fingers is actually a dominant trait whereas having 5 fingers is recessive.

The reason why almost everyone has 5 fingers instead of 6 fingers can be explained by the Hardy-Weinberg Equilibrium.

"Gene frequencies do not change much unless something in the environment selects them over other
genes. In other words, unless 6 fingers somehow becomes an advantage, and
five-fingered people have less of an advantage, the frequency of six fingered
people in the population will not necessarily increase. This is the same
reason that recessive traits don't disappear from the population. Also, six
fingers is not considered attractive and they may not get as many mates.
Also, more people are born with six fingers than you might imagine but just
have them amputated shortly after birth."

It'll depend on the person. If it's just an extra piece then, you mightt not feel the pain. If it's an extra piece that just doesn't move, then you will feel the pain even though it doesn't move.

Everything really differs from person to person.
