General Discussion / Self Grading System?

My friends and I are constantly learning new tricks and I thought of a way of us to determine and tell eachother how good we are at a trick. So what I do is a little self grading where I give a number out of 10. For instance, for thumbaround I am a 10/10 because if I do it 10 times then I can land it each time. But for instance I can land shadow half the time so i would grade shadow to be 5/10/. If I learn a brand new trick and cant do it at all then i would be a 1/10. What does UPSB think about this self grading system? Lets hear some feedback.

Well that isn't really to accurate since theres more to a trick than "landing" it. speed, style, fluency..

No i dont Think you "know/have learnt" the trick if you land it 10/10 tries. But I like how you are thinking!
Maybe one should split up the learning scale in two parts.
Part1:
How many times you can "land" the trick in 10 tries.
Pointssystem: from 0 ->10
Part2:
Can you master the trick, do it as smooth and nice as humanly possible.
Poinstssytem: from 0 -> 10
Maybe one should add the numbers together so letssay i Have the thumbaround about 12 (10/10 landed, but still lots to improve). -

i think you have learnt the trick when you can link it with other tricks, and when you can do almost whenever you want. sometimes you can do it 10/10, but sometimes you can do it only 3/10 :/

You don't have to be able to link a move with another to master a trick. I feel that if you are able to do a move by itself well then I would consider it "mastered". But however, it goes the other way around as well. =/ Because there are moves I cannot do, without linking another move before it. But thats just me. :]

I don't think that self grading thing really works since a trick performed out of 10 times isn't really accurate. Cause there are other things you would have to judge like smoothness (and linking if you're including linking tricks to that trick you're trying to grade, though there are many links you could do with some tricks like backaround for example).

I thought of this before and I realized that it's pretty hard to make something like this. Actually, what I wanted to make was a progress report system that tracks your progress and gives you a quantitative analysis of your progress. >_< But now I have another idea. How about a Satisfaction Report?
Basically, it tracks how satisfied you are with your trick. How consistent you think it is, how smooth you think it is, how happy you feel with it overall. I mean, how "good" someone is is pretty much subjective. Instead of listening to official guidelines, how about listening to yourself? -

Hmmm... i have a Word document file at my computer where I have listed all tricks (normal/reverse/harmonic ect.). I rate for my own knowing. And it works for me. I can see what i have learned good and things which should i do some work.
I rate from 0 - 10 but i use bouth factor groups - ''I can do it'' + ''Fast and smooth''
But its for my personal use only.
