As far as crashes go, I haven't had any happen to me. Then again, I've only used it like.. 3 times. It's not so easy when you just dive head-first, but after some youtube tutorials, simple editing is... simple.

Final Cut Pro (+Studio) is the best prosumer editing software, if you can afford it.

The best Video editing software is Avid also a NLE.

The movie industry uses Avid, its a great program just a little one the expensive side.

Premier is good but annoying to do neat stuff with. I haven't really tried on Vegas, but it's probably easier to make things look cool than with Premier. It's probably also easier to mess up big-time with Vegas, by just adding effects and producing something horribly looking.

For those of you that edit a good bit, what sites do you to for tutorials?
So far, I only Google for certain tutorials but they're in miscellaneous sites that don't have many tutorials. Pixel2Life seems to be the most "centralized" site as far as tutorials go, but even that place sucks for Vegas tutorials.

Oh yeah, what sites do you go to for Vegas and/or Premiere?

Expensive?! You need dedicated hardware for Avid...

@Eso: Since you're including compositing software as well (eg. AE), there's also Combustion and Fireworks for the Mac. I'm not too sure whether they're available for Windows as well however..

Bring up your Media Generator and move your mouse cursor to the bottom of the window. The mouse cursor should change. Click and drag the keyframe controls up. That's it.

Oo, since this topic was brought up again, I forgot to mention Shake the last time...it's a pretty popular compositing software.

This is a little off topic, but for those of you that wish to convert from FLV format to other formats, try this link.

    http://www.download.com/WM-Converter/3000-....html?tag=lst-4

WM Converter. It's a little confusing at first, but it gets the job done and it's quick.

    Pros:

    • Quick
    • Easy to use
    • More reliable than online FLV converter services

    Cons:
    • Need to download the FLV first
    • Is not an online converter

    Doing credits in Vegas

For a while I had trouble doing this, then it finally dawned on me that the credits can be manipulated just like any other clip, so...

*To make the credits go by slower, go to the end of the clip, hold Ctrl (this will make the cursor have a squiggly line underneath), click and drag it outwards to make it go by slower.

    *smacks forehead*

just wondering 'cos i'll be editing a video for some other reason (not psing)

how do you put a bar that comes out and displays the person's name in WMM?

*prepare for future questions that come out when i'm editing the video happy.gif *

    Date: Sun, Apr 27 2008 05:14:56

If you dont know how to do that.
    You shouldnt be editing.
But you click on titles and credits.

  19. Kari-Chan
    Date: Sun, Apr 27 2008 05:25:51

well, nobody else who is going to be in the video even knows how to use WMM dry.gif

Tools -> Titles and Credits -> (choose where to add title) -> Change the title animation -> News Banner -> Edit the title text -> (choose what text you want to appear) -> Change the text font and colour -> (choose font style/size/colour and bar colour) -> Done, add title to movie

  21. Zombo
    Date: Sun, Apr 27 2008 15:28:21

wouldnt that be some kind of overlay? don' t know if you can do that in wmm.

    maybe like this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NhiFTppg7NE

how do i do slow-mo with WMM? happy.gif

  23. Zombo

if you go on youtube and search for 'slow motion wmm' you should find something

  24. Kari-Chan
    Date: Sun, May 4 2008 22:05:15

    umm umm umm...

i searched for Zoom In on youtube and yes it showed me how to do it but.... how come i don't have the zoom effects on my wmm? huh.gif

is there also such thing as adding a rewind effect?

    argh!! major help needed!
i imported a video but it said "{insert file location here}.wmv could not be imported. An interface has too many methods to fire events from"

it plays on the preview but it doesn't play when i add it to the storyline. so i tried to use a hypercam but when i did, it shows the "copy" screen ><

    HALP!!~

  25. Zombo
    Date: Mon, May 5 2008 14:45:12

the error you can google for it, most likely the video you're trying to import is of incompatible type

  26. Kari-Chan
    Date: Tue, May 6 2008 09:00:44

it's in wmv format which is compatible and i don't know what search term i should search for

  27. Zombo

try " An interface has too many methods to fire events from"

It's possible that the wmv file you have may be corrupted. The source file, the wmv, was taken from where? Try converting the wmv file into a mpeg (sounds counter-productive, I know), and then try importing it. Other than that, you'll have to figure out what to do with the source file.

can anyone tell me any good video title creation software
it doesn't have to be top of the range, just something other than the bland-ness of wmm
and i dont want to download adobe after effects as well...

something that can maybe do multiple videos (not necessary, though i would like it), and title effects like these:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wSSG5YUaykI

oh, and it has to be free (or small download size)

I seem to lose quality when I export a vid in vegas. I suppose it's due to the compressing but is there a way to negate the quality loss?

Raw file w/o exporting out of vegas:

Video -> Full View • Download

    Exporting from vegas:

Video -> Full View • Download

  38. SJ
    Date: Fri, May 8 2009 03:51:50

hmm... well i guess you can call that quality loss

but really, it adds that "effect" to the clip

it doesnt become choppy or anything

and when u compress things the quality isnt gonna be the same (from what i know)

and your raw file size is HUGE ._.

  39. Charlie
    Date: Fri, May 8 2009 05:11:48

True, but I like how vibrant it is in the raw file. Ah, well. tongue.gif

When I try and publish a movie on wmm it freezes at about 2 or 4 percent T_T

The length is about 2 mins :/

A video with 15 secs length publishes

After it stoppes, the 'minutes remaining' increases forever. I left it for a while and it went up to 1560, and still increasing.

Im editing a major colllab atm (NZ 1st) so I really need help

Wanna make some slideshow vids but without using Windows movie maker. Any free programs?

Also, I wanna make intro and credits slides and be able to type in text onto the pictures.

Also also, any programs that will allow me to do the intro/credit slide thing and tie in a ps vid?

Very new at this so I have no clue what to do...
