General Discussion / Practicing while studying, reading, doing hw, etc...

so most of the i pen spin while doing my hw or in class listenign to what the teacher is saying
but when i'm practicing then, i'm not raelly concentrating too much on my actual spinning and the flaws that are occuring when i'm trying to learn a trick

should i just not bother pen spinning when i'm not focussing on it with the fear that i may be doing it wrong and then my muscle would start remember the wrong way of doing it?
or should i continue doing what i'm doing and at least it's somewhat helpful?

it's very obvious that it's not nearly as efficient as when practicing while actually concentrating on getting a specific trick or combo, but could it possible be harmful?

When I'm in class or whatever, I usually just freestyle. Until I get 90-100% concentration on pen spinning, then I start learning new tricks/linkages, etc.

Practice fingerpasses and charges. I don't really practice charges anymore, I can charge practically everywhere now. But fingerpasses can always get smoother.

ya...tricks that dont rlly require concentration but still get u better at overall spinning line charges an fingerpasses an maybe some diffrent harmonics...

It will not mess you up at all. At least glance at the trick you are doing every now and then to see if you are doing it right I guess.

subconscious freestyles involving only the most basic twisted sonics and sonic pass hybrids for me happy.gif

Sometimes, I have a habit of performing harder tricks. And it gets hard to concentrate on studying/hw.

yea if I need to focus on something else I will just do simple tricks/combos

    Date: Thu, Feb 21 2008 06:09:32

yeahh..sometimes when i'm freestyling in class, it goes from simple stuff to more difficult stuff
once the more difficult stuff gets going, i start to want to finish it so i my attention for teh class itself goes out teh window and i just start concentrating more on the penspinning
if i don't concentrate on the more difficult stuff, i'd drop it anyway and that gets annoying after a while, both for me and everyone else around me

In class, i just concentrate on the pen and practice on the trick i'm working on....
later, i ask what the class was about biggrin.gif

While i do my homework, i just freestyle, and the difficulty level gets higher.....
a few minutes later, i would just be pen spinning, instead of doing my homework tongue.gif
sometimes it gets really annoying dry.gif

haha i know what you mean
unfortunately i have to pay attentino in class since in teh end, it's usually the other way around--people end up asking me what the class is about xDD and they're not even penspinning

i guess the best thign to do while working is to just practice fingerpass then...or some 34 charges and some twisted sonics + their variations in 34

I can't concentrate on studies when I'm spinning, and I can't concentrate on spinning when I'm listening to what the teacher is teaching.
    Well,the hell with my grades...
    PS rocks,for the win!

there are acts a human can do consciously, and unconsciously.
like listening to music, you can read a book and put music in the background, but you wont be able to understand the music as much as if you'd do just it - consciously.
same goes for pen spinning. unconscious pen spinning is like freestyling etc, but if you're trying to practice a trick or work on a combo you must use *most* of your consciousness

i just do simple trick while i on study or in a class...

I have a disability... I cannot listen in class

it is not s chronic thing like adhd or anuthing its mpre so like a mental block.
so instead of listen, what better to do then spin!

One good solution for this, keep your pens in your bag.
Cannot be on the table or pencil case, I believe will sub consciously take the pen and spin.

Personally, during these times, I tend to practice the Fingerpass, Fingerpass Reverse, and Triangle Pass.
These tricks require smoothness to look good, but not as much mental concentration as a freestyle.
Think about it closely, these tricks are going to require a lot of practice time, and are frustrating to do when you concentrate 100 percent on.

IMO, those three tricks are the best tricks are the best to practice on while multitasking. tongue.gif

Interesting. I didn't know people had trouble multitasking during classes even though you'd be doing something really basic. =/

For me, I find it easier to concentrate by keeping one of my hands occupied with sonic harmonic/TA harmonic, and diverting all my attention towards the teacher. I guess its just me ;]

Well, I hate all my classes and only barely do enough to manage B's/A-'s. I'm a senior, screw it. Once I get accepted to UCLA or UC Berkeley, all I want is a C in my classes and I'm all good.

i freestyle. but i freestyle all the time anyway, i hate combos. mini combos are ok but i find doing a certain combo for a collab or watever is dam ass boring etc.

If my teacher is talking Ill just start to spin and after spinning and listening for about 5-10 mins I get dragged into the spinning.
But if im doing my homework I'll just practice with my left hand and do my homework with my right.

  24. Hellblaza
    Date: Wed, Feb 27 2008 08:59:38

Ah, it feels good to be semi-ambidextrous; (I write with my right and spin with my left)

So when I write, I have my MX in my left hand, while writing notes with my right hand, and when I pause to read, thats when I spin for a couple of seconds. ^^

Just wondering, is anyone else like me? In the sense of spinning with your non-writing hand?

Lol dude... we have the same thing. ohmy.gifO But actually, I write with my left hand and spin with my right. I'm ambidextrous though and I spin decent on my left.

i spin while i'm reading, studying, in school. but i do mostly simple tricks, and spamming double charge (someone said it's an ultimate thinking trick, or sth like that smile.gif), double sonic harmonic, devil's sonic....

  30. sp3ctum

I like to do continuous tricks or combos that, once I've got the hang of them, require repetition.
Afterwards I notice that it's improved a lot without me thinking about it too much.

When im in class, i pen spin, doing a few freestyle to show off friends then spin with left(easy stuff) and write with my right. But if the teacher is on about crap, i practice learning the harder stuff however one time i kept dropping it and this has happened a few times but my teacher told me off xD

I usually casually practice finger pass, trying to get it smoother while in class since it's kind of hard to practice in class when you drop, your pen makes noise and such.

I sometimes zone out of class and end up just focusing on the pen though which I shouldn't do >_> I really should stopping pen spinning in class tongue.gif

  34. hiryuukatana
    Date: Thu, Mar 6 2008 04:15:02

once i start spinning, i usually forget about class then zone off in pen world.

I normally dont spin in school, since i get looked at wierd since like 3 people think its cool. I spin at home during Homework, and while im at the computer.

Yeah, that would be me tongue.gif
But when I'm in class I PS if there is nothing important, and if there is- I just do what tricks I can do naturally and listen at the same time.

I always practice tricks I'm already okay at in class, and focus on more difficult ones on its own time.
