UPSB v3

General Discussion / Fingerless #4, March 28th FINAL DEADLINE

Release on April 5th

  1. Sfsr
    Date: Fri, Feb 22 2008 22:58:04

For this issue, there will be some slight changes. To start with, a sub-forum for the magazine has been created and can be joined in the same way you join a team. If you have helped with previous issues, feel free to just join the team and I'll accept you. If you haven't helped out before, please send me a PM with an application where you include what you're interested to write about. If I reply, you can join the team and I'll accept you.

All the discussion on what's going to be written by who etc will thus be held inside that forum from now on. I'll write here what parts we'd like to see included but don't have anyone for yet though:

    Ideas on articles:

    • Featured penspinner
    • Article on penspinning videos
    • Article on tricks/combos
    • Penspinning story?
    • Readers mail/question/rant!

If you're interested in writing about any of these topics, or have something else you want to write about, just sign up and we're good to go. The readers mail/question/rant will basically be a section where we will publish short articles by regular readers, or questions/mails they've sent in that they want answered. I will do my best to find an as suitable person as possible to answer any questions we get, and then release everything in the magazine. Mails/questions/rants can be sent to me via PM or to Sfsr [at] upsb [dot] info

I will be doing to design and layout again, with help and advice from the rest of the Fingerless staff.

Nope, the "Readers mail/question/rant!" was just green 'cause it's new and flashy! I just made it bold and italic now instead though :P

I plan on doing an interview with Eriror and creating a chart that'd compare well known pen mods based on serveral criteria.

How would an article on combos work? Like tips on linking?

Okay, sounds cool. We haven't really had anything on tricks yet so an article about old school stuff, you could include like old trick names and what came first, would be really cool.

@ Xero, about the article about combos. Could be about say how to build a combo based on charge and pass tricks, or how to link rare tricks into common combos.

Anyone who can do something on penspinning videos? A penspinning story? I'd want to do that but I don't have a clue what it would be about to make it interesting reading lol.

For a "pen spinning story" I think I have a pretty cool one.
Where I work, one day, a substitute came in and this was the first time that I've ever seen him.
I started freestyling after a bit and he saw me. He asked "Do you need special pens do that? Because I can do this..." he hints for my pen and I pass it. He showed me that he could do a TA and Charge 12. So then I explaining more about tricks and what they were named. Showed him that a Charge doesn't just have to be in the 12 slot, but it can be in the 23 or 34 or 13, etc. He also knew how to do a [HIDDED] with his PHONE!

Lmao. I'll reveal that trick he did, trust me, it blew my mind, if you want me to write that article too.
Basically, the theme behind this was simply that pen spinning broke the ice.
I had no idea who he was, but PSing brought two people, that knew nothing about one another, together.
It wasn't romantic... but I still that it was cool. tongue.gif

    EDIT:
@Sfsr: PM me if you want me to write it up, something else! happy.gif

Ah, sorry people. Since there are barely any articles, and I have been really busy lately, this issue is being delayed. The new release date will be somewhere 2-4 weeks after the supposed release (5th of April). Sorry for the inconvenience.

Since we don't have that many articles, feel free to help out and write something last-minute! There's a lot of stuff that's read-worthy. Also, please keep sending reader mails and questions, we've only received two this far ^^

I enjoyed reading the fingerless magazine! I would be willing to start it up again, if some people would work on it as well. I'm not exactly the most experienced pen spinner in the world, but I think we should revive this project!

I think the problem is less with who is running the project and more that articles just don't get sent, don't get done, or no-one wants to do them. I bet if you were to start this now you could do one issue pretty alright, but the second issue you would struggle to get out at all and by the third, there would be no chance.

if we learn from our mistakes, we would have no fixed staff for the magazine and only release when sufficient material is found or get a looser deadline if there is time-sensitive content.

I was thinking that this time we can talk about some of the top, latest collaborations. Like "Best of 08-09" or something.
As for trick articles, we can possibly discuss the rising popularity of Isolation, Bak Riser, or HandAround Variations.

With no fixed deadlines, a magazine could work. Only problem with penspinning is that things get old. They get old fast.

A pen, a trick, a collab.. If it's new today, it isn't anything special in a month. So for a "magazine" to be interesting you have to get everything out while it's fresh. I don't know if it would work... Better to just release loose articles. Have a section where approved members can post "Fingerless Magazine" articles, compile everything in a neat .pdf once every 6 months or when enough articles are present, and release it officially.

That could work. Yeah, it could.

the first thing we need is a someone to spearhead the project, and send me a proposal telling me what ressources are required to make this work.
