General Discussion / Kam on NPR (National Public Radio)
an interview I did in New York

Date: Sun, Feb 24 2008 19:07:44
So, I was at this year's Toy Fair in New York to do some pen spinning demo for Spinz when I was contacted by Dan Pashman from NPR. He wanted to do an interview about PS for his show: The Bryant Park Project
Anyways, if you guys are interested, here's the interview
http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.p...045&sc=emaf
Couple things...
1. Don't call me Kam Kuo It's just Kam...I don't know why they put my real last name together with my nickname. It sounds so weird.
2. The interview was pretty impromptu. I knew they were coming to the trade show, but I wasn't expecting to do an interview for another day or so (thankfully, they cut out all my drops )
Oh, and if you send this to anyone, please use the 'email this page' feature if you can. In order to help PS get more exposure, we want that page to be the most emailed page on NPR. Right now I hear it's the top 6th page

Wow, that was pretty cool, that rubber band thing at the end was amazing

:D
I didn't know you were involved in Spinz. Did it go well for them at the fair? I thought the interview was nice, really good for people unaware of penspinning. Exactly how big is this "The Bryant Park Project"? I've never heard of it.
Oh, and "LOLWTFBBQ?!" @ the rubber manipulation trick you did at the end :P -

Kam, our pen spinning ambassador. They couldn't have picked anyone better. This is quite exciting.

Your MSN name is Kam Kuo...
Really nice. I guess this will spread penspinning even further in a positive way. At least, I hope so.
PS: I figured out how to do the rubberband trick. -

That was cool. Does that mean spinz are out now?
-
Date: Sun, Feb 24 2008 19:48:10

Errr...that's a mistake in my MSN then
The Interlace (rubberband trick) is quite easy...possibly one of the easiest tricks ever. Unfortunately, it's a lot about presentation. But I wanted to show that so people get interested in manipulation in general. I plan on making a video teaching that trick, as well as how to do a star and double star with one hand. -

Kam! What are you doing? That pen is double sided! Very cool interview tho Finally some good pen spinning coverage in the US
-
Date: Sun, Feb 24 2008 21:20:25
Heh, always thought Kam promoted single sided mods. Kind of strange to see him spinning a double sided pen.
-
Date: Sun, Feb 24 2008 21:58:02
And now we got a nice video of SPINZ in action! They look really nice, double-sided, with ribbed-looking grips on the caps.
I wonder if the ink is double-sided as well.....
I still can't figure out the rubberband trick. I hope you get to that tutorial sometime -

this was awesome
-
Date: Sun, Feb 24 2008 22:18:15
I do promote using single sided mods because they look more like a pen, and I feel that's important in presentation.
However, I never said I only spin them. I am a very flexible and open minded person. I spin many different kinds of pens, depending on the occasion. In this particular case, as I said, I was doing a trade show for Spinz, and that pen was the best of them. -

cool article kam!
lol Pashman almost got a TA but his "successful" attempt is not even correct, lol.
I like the rubberband trick and the spinz mod look alright I guess. it's definitely not built like a toy like some ppl thought it would be.
nice xtreme digitz as well! -

-
Date: Mon, Feb 25 2008 05:50:35
Nice interview, Kam.
And, cool was your infinity release. I would just wish I could watch you spinning your RSVP MX as well as that pen, though I know it's a show for Spinz. -
Date: Mon, Feb 25 2008 06:42:19
heyy kam kuo
Your famous now.
are you planning to make 'RubbaBandTrix'
and do you work for Spinz as your full time job? -

Date: Mon, Feb 25 2008 11:25:46
And yet he still pwns us all in laif.
Way to go Kam
Edit: ZOMG I noticed that one the screen behind Kam there's a combo of Eriror! I can recognize that table and waistband from miles. -
Date: Mon, Feb 25 2008 12:11:44
behind are also some pen commercials.. but errior is still more distinct from far..
-
Date: Mon, Feb 25 2008 17:39:07
This is great since it doesn't just talk about the pens or the tricks but all aspects of pen spinning.
Hopefully, PSing will gain wider respect due to this. -
Date: Mon, Feb 25 2008 18:04:06
wow nice
so kam...what's your first name anyways -
Date: Mon, Feb 25 2008 18:32:50

You look handsome!
And nice interview. -
Date: Tue, Feb 26 2008 13:17:06
KAM, since you said that the pen you spun in the video was the best of them, is it also one of the more expensive in the SPINZ line of pens?
-
Date: Tue, Feb 26 2008 17:44:06
