Huroni, next time I propose we simply use the judging system as described on the wiki. I think it is a far superior method and we have half as many battles to judge this time around. Also by doing this, spinners can refer to the wiki to check why they got the score they did.

  8. Thewave
    Date: Sun, Feb 24 2008 21:07:02

Wow! I got more points than I thought I would... That's a shock.
Although Ste won it easily tongue.gif
GL to all the spinners in the next round smile.gif

  9. Huroni
    Date: Sun, Feb 24 2008 21:10:00

Sure...but the judges will have to send the totals of their votes...instead of the symbols. With their comments...makes it much easier..for everyone. Thanks pholord.

So, if I understood correctly, the judging is based on: Smoothness, creativity, camera angle and difficulty. I'll see what I personally think should win based on these subjects. I would personally prefer the UPSB Wiki system, though.

    ------------------------------------------------
    Dynamik:
    Smoothness: 4/5
    Creativity: 3/5
    Camera Angle: 4/5
    Difficulty: 3/5

It's a rather average combo with a few repetitive parts. You should put the camera a little higher so you can accentuate the well done NeoBaks. Aside from the stops between the ThumbAround Harmonic parts [they are different though, sneaky. wink.gif], there weren't too many pauses, a little one from Pass Reverse 23-34 --> Sonic 34-23, but the overall feel of the combo is smooth enough. The difficulty isn't too high compared to raE, but not too bad either.

    vs.

    raE:
    Smoothness: 4/5
    Creativity: 3/5
    Camera Angle: 5/5
    Difficulty: 4/5

I was impressed by the BackAround Fall, which was executed well, even though there was a small stop beforehand. And well.. There was more than 1 stop, which kinda broke the whole feel, and would be handed a same smoothness score as Dynamik. If you had not had those stops, the combo would have simply been killer. Hard combo, not a lot of variety though [Shadows, Infinities, Spins, normal Arounds?]. Also too bad about the Double ThumbAround at the beginning of the combo. I would have prefered it at the ending, even though it gives a small immediate blast.

    -------------------------------------------------

    iamk34n3:
    Smoothness: 3/5
    Creativity: 4/5
    Camera Angle: 5/5
    Difficulty: 4/5

I'm impressed with the variety of tricks and the skill with which you present the combo. The pen + camera gives a laggy look, but it also reflects the way with which you spin. Fast and unpredictable. I like it. The creativity and difficulty weren't top notch, but still good enough for a well-filled <6 months combo. Too bad you had a few minor stops which could have been cut out with more filming. But I guess you got sick of that after I don't know how long, haha.

    vs.

    dust_kid:
    Smoothness: 3/5
    Creativity: 3/5
    Camera Angle: 4/5
    Difficulty: 3/5

I admire the way you do Figure Eights. Not a lot of persons would dare fill at least 1/3 of a combo with those. Sadly, you started with them after you made a really ugly break, which cost you 2 smoothness points. It looks like you rushed the combo a bit without really having time or ...I dunno, maybe you just underestimated iamk34n3? =P Your variety didn't reach his, sadly, and the difficulty wasn't as high as it probably could have been. Your hand should have been centered more, but it didn't really hamper the vision. Overall a decent vid, but nothing outstanding...

    --------------------------------------------------

    Dritan Zulbeari:
    Smoothness: 5/5
    Creativity: 2/5
    Camera Angle: 5/5
    Difficulty: 2/5

Smooth, sweet, but short and easy. That's sadly the whole point. =P It's awesomely good for a 3-month spinner, but I can't quite get the vibe. You didn't use your pinky at all, and the difficulty is nonexistant compared to CrancK. However, your smoothness greatly outdoes his. It almost balances it out. There's nothing much to say otherwise, aside from: Keep this smoothness, but add more tricks. Nice Figure 8, though. wink.gif PS, you look like Scott Shaputis.

    vs.

    CrancK:
    Smoothness: 2/5
    Creativity: 5/5
    Camera Angle: 4/5
    Difficulty: 5/5

I'll just be blunt. I love this video. A lot. A lot. To be honest, I don't care that much about smoothness, unless it's as smooth as a baby's bottom, moisturized with the most expensive moisturizer. And yeah, this baby already has a lot of hair, CrancK. But that doesn't matter, as wow. The rest is just insane. Variety, difficulty. A well placed aerial [do you love ChauTran and Scott Shaputis, perhaps?], and Shadows that I could only dream of at your PS age. The only thing I can advise you is a slightly better lighting and a hard training session of smoothness.

    ---------------------------------------------------

    death:
    Smoothness: 4/5
    Creativity: 3/5
    Camera Angle: 2/5
    Difficulty: 4/5

Yeah well... I would advice on a better background, to start with. That's more or less the only really bad part about the combo. The angle is the world worst penspinning angle ever taken [hey, shush. At least I had a slightly downward angle!]. From what could see though, the combo itself rocked pretty hard. Smooth, and a lot of charge/sonic/pass variations, along with backarounds and a neobak or two? In the end, you could have cut around 8 seconds though, without changing a lot of the combo. Keep going on with spinning, and pick a better background/angle, cam, or both.

    vs.

    11Thrasher11:
    Smoothness: 4/5
    Creativity: 4/5
    Camera Angle: 5/5
    Difficulty: 4/5

And Thrasher loves to try and trash the opposition with a noisy pen! Everything is above average, but sadly, you repeated a few sections [come on, Double Charge is nice, but not worth to be done 3 seconds in a row. tongue.gif]. Your smoothness is good-looking, but failed at a few points. Your busts could be refined as well, your hand flails around a bit after those. I really liked the way you presented the Horn Stall, good job! wink.gif Nothing to say about the angle. Overall, there isn't too much that can be said about the video, worth of a full 17 points! Smexy pen, btw.

    ----------------------------------------------------

    leetspinner:
    Smoothness: 2/5
    Creativity: 2/5
    Camera Angle: 1/5
    Difficulty: 3/5

I'll be rough again. This is worse than death's angle, as his actually... had a reasonable amount of distance. I'll just say what I think... Smoothness could be refined a lot, you moved your hand around constantly, even though some mini-combos were actually done really nice. For example the Cardioid, which I found attractive to look at. But the rest.. stops, fast spins, stops... So yeah, the difficulty was average, the rest... below that. I'm sorry.

    vs.

    hiryuukatana:
    Smoothness: 4/5
    Creativity: 3/5
    Camera Angle: 5/5
    Difficulty: 4/5

Really nice to look at.. The first 15 seconds. If I could have judged that, you'd almost be having 17 or 18 points or something. tongue.gif But you kept going on, and on.. And made mistakes, and kept doing the same thing. That kinda killed the creativity marker. I enjoyed your Twisted Sonic Bust Rise, and the interesting linkages you showed. Those cranked up the difficulty marker, but some linkages lowered the overall feel I had about the combo. Next time, prepare a bit more, and cut the time slightly. =P

    ----------------------------------------------------

    Sadi Teh Pirate:
    Smoothness: 3/5
    Creativity: 4/5
    Camera Angle: 4/5
    Difficulty: 4/5

ARRRRRRR, your linkage be awkward, matey! Awkward, but not that smooth. Nice Devil's Shadow Bust 12-12, Sonic Clip 34-24-14-12, and linkage at the ending sequence. Eriror does agree with this combo. Too bad you did nothing especially creative and interesting, and too bad your smoothness was a bit meh-ish at the beginning. The camera could be placed a bit higher, too. But it was a really nice combo to look at. smile.gif Too bad your opponent just had to own that much. >_<

    vs.

    seihe:
    Smoothness: 4/5
    Creativity: 4/5
    Camera Angle: 4/5
    Difficulty: 5/5

HOLY CARP. Wow, this surely is an insanely nice combo. You seem really controlled, but had a few small lagging points. Those were small, though. The difficulty is almost unmatched in this tourney, along with CrancK and Ozrix, I guess. I really don't have a lot of points to comment on. I just really liked the combo, hahaha. There seemed to be only one noticable repeated sequence. Oh, by the way. Chubby fingers. =P

    -----------------------------------------------------

    NiGHTSora:
    Smoothness: 4.5/5
    Creativity: 3/5
    Camera Angle: 5/5
    Difficulty: 3/5

Thou arst very smooth. A small break or two, but nothing to kill the overall smoothness of the video. The camera works perfectly fine with your pen and angle, and props on holding it like that. tongue.gif Your difficulty could be higher when looking at the smoothness, so work on that from now on. I liked the ending, as I have a secret love for Double ThumbArounds, but there were some parts in the combo that were too easy [Sonic Rise?]. Keep working on new concepts [for you] and tricks, and you'll rise quickly. =)

    vs.

    Fang:
    Smoothness: 2/5
    Creativity: 3/5
    Camera Angle: 5/5
    Difficulty: 3.5/5

You seem to have nice ideas of what you want, but you can't execute it well yet. You use a few tricks of a trick list that's too high for you at the moment, like the ending you used [NeoSonic 23-T2 --> FingerLess ThumbAround]. Now, I usually don't have problems with that, but it doesn't make for a good-looking combo when you don't link it well enough. This sadly killed the smoothness rating to a disastrous number. I wish you good luck on getting smoother, because you have potential. Pseudo Sonics are nice to watch!

    -----------------------------------------------------

    NovaStrike:
    Smoothness: 4.5/5
    Creativity: 3/5
    Camera Angle: 5/5
    Difficulty: 3/5

I request a breakdown, at least for the tricks you are doing at :09. It almost looks like an Inverse Shadow Reverse 23-34. You have an awesome style, with an almost unstoppable smoothness. You really know what you are doing, and your tricks are controlled like those of a pro-penspinner. It's a video to enjoy looking at, even if the difficulty could use some work. Your use of Inverse Sonics is more common than usual, which is interesting, to say the least. Good job, I'd like to see more of you.

    vs.

    Ryuukohaden:
    Smoothness: 3.5/5
    Creativity: 2.5/5
    Camera Angle: 5/5
    Difficulty: 4/5

Aargh, so close. You're just not smooth enough, but your difficulty is like higher. It's too close. You're a really good spinner, but it seemed you wanted to fill as many seconds as you could. Sure, this raises your difficulty level, but your creativity is wrecked. Sorry, but you just fell short of a really good grade, and you could do better... I really enjoyed your Shadows, by the way. Your Rising Fans was good as well, but to most people it would just look like Charge spamming. Your way to link into Infinity was SEXY, though.

    --------------------------------------------------------

    Ste:
    Smoothness: 3/5
    Creativity: 3/5
    Camera Angle: 4/5
    Difficulty: 3/5

I really liked the Infinity linkage there. The Wiper Reverse 13 was executed really well and seemed to fit in the whole combo. You used a lot of Sonics and other hybrid variations, which are pleasing to look at. Sadly, you seemed to repeat Twisted Sonic variations all around, which killed the feel. The few stops didn't help either, as one of them was a blatant direction change. You definitely have potential as well, just don't overdo it on the easy tricks department, and develop the wiper linkage. Try to stand out more.

    vs.

    Thewave:
    Smoothness: 2/5
    Creativity: 3.5/5
    Camera Angle: 4/5
    Difficulty: 3.5/5

Ouch, drops are never good. You should have learned from the start to never send a video with a drop in it. The rest was really nice, even though you sometimes used too much hand movement, which made it go half off-screen. That is too bad, as the combo wasn't bad at all. You have a nice array of Backarounds and Shadows, which are pleasing to look at with your angle. You know how to link, and have decent control over the pen. Keep up this way, Thewave!

    --------------------------------------------------------

    Amon-W:
    Smoothness: 4/5
    Creativity: 3/5
    Camera Angle: 5/5
    Difficulty: 3/5

I like your style as well, you know what you're doing, seemed to have it planned out from trick to trick. Everything was smooth, aside from the wobbly ending, which was too bad. But I know that aerials are irritating to link into, so no worries. I would advise you to learn new tricks, and find a way to make them fit in a combo. There's nothing wrong with your linkage, if you have any problems with consistancy, you aren't showing it. Good job!

    vs.

    m3xspinner:
    Smoothness: 2.5/5
    Creativity: 2/5
    Camera Angle: 3/5
    Difficulty: 2/5

Helloooo, that ending wasn't good enough, man. =/ You should have refilmed that, just like Thewave. Even if the combo looks good, the ending usually makes the biggest impression. Your combo was pretty smooth, but there wasn't anything that caught my eye. The angle should have been more from the side [palm showed], so the tricks could be more accentuated. As you don't seem to have big problems with making the combo flow, learn new tricks and get more consistant.

    --------------------------------------------------------

Long rant is done, I hope you spinners can appreciate my comments and make use of the tips I hopefully gave you.

And good luck to you, Novastrike. From the points right now, it looks to be a tough match. wink.gif

Thx Eriror for the comments, will improve more with the reference to this and from other judges =D
    Actually at :09 I was doing a charge reverse 23 > pass rev 23-34.
For difficulty, I had some plans of combo, but recently my working time does not allow me to practice. And the film was film the very last hour, so I was really panicked at that time while recording. My pens just keep dropping dry.gif
So ended up with this simple and somehow an unplanned combo.

Yea, definitely will come out something better for the next round! Won't disappoint you and some of my friends who helped me too(yea, you 2 should know who you are)! cool.gif

lol sorry guys...i think y m3x_spinner lost is because he didn't have a camera...

i had to flim his combo...its accually pretty good but we only had like lunch time to film...
and its outside...all the sound and people, its not really a good spinning environment.
and also everyone knows its 10 times worse if you have somone filming you cuz you have no control over the camera...more pressure, and you
dont want to be a bother to the person who is helping you if you think that the combo you did wasn't what you wanted.

and also i was filming...totally forgot about the angle...i was just like...ok lets get it over with.
and it was durinking school and lunch so yeah lol...

so sorry about that man...maybe save up for a camera.

lol sorry guys...i think y m3x_spinner lost is because he didn't have a camera...

i had to flim his combo...its accually pretty good but we only had like lunch time to film...
and its outside...all the sound and people, its not really a good spinning environment.
and also everyone knows its 10 times worse if you have somone filming you cuz you have no control over the camera...more pressure, and you
dont want to be a bother to the person who is helping you if you think that the combo you did wasn't what you wanted.

and also i was filming...totally forgot about the angle...i was just like...ok lets get it over with.
and it was durinking school and lunch so yeah lol...

so sorry about that man...maybe save up for a camera.

    No problem man.
    It's cool.
I was in a rush too another reason why we should have a longer lunch time.
and yes I am saving up for one.

No, new brackets would not be necessary. Who ever he is versing can just move to the next round.

Just so you know...doing something like that isn't fair to the people like me, who have to stay on top of things...It's kinda hard...now I have to pm iamk34n3 saying he has to send a video...He might have went on vacation or something...pray he answers...cuz if he doesn't, (I don't mean to be mean) you will not be able to re-participate.
