i have been PSing for officially 2 months now..
so far these are all the tricks that I can say i have mastered (including the variations) TA,twisted sonic, sonic, all the baks(not the bakfall),quad infinity, shadow(not yet done with its variations),neo baks, thumb flap chrge rev, double charge, flush sonic, flick, scissor spin, smooth fingerpass, demon's sonic and devil's around, twisted sonic bust-bak rev and I can do a bit of smooth mini combos... for a month of PSing is my progress quite slow or what? thx in advance for those who post a reply on this topic of mine

It's really impossible to tell from you writing a list of tricks. How well can you perform the tricks? Are they smooth? What tricks can you link? Are these linkages smooth? How are your combos? Is the speed okay? Do they contain creative elements? Is everything within them well connected? How consistant are these tricks? You say mastered, but everyone has their own defintion of mastered.

In my opinion, there are two ways to have your spinning evaluated:

    Self evalutation:

Looking at videos of other spinners and knowing how long you have been spinnng yourself. How do you match up to these people? Are spinners who have been spinning a similar amount of time at a similar level? Are you more on the level of a 3 month spinner or a 2 week spinner?

    Evalutation by others:

Release a video in the private videos section, or a combo or two in 'show off your new combos' thread. Others will then be able to see your spinning and evaluate your skill and technique. If you knew another real-life spinner, they could also evaluate you without need to release a video. This option is a no-go for most people here though.

imo it doesn't matter how many tricks you can do, but whether u can link them nicely and present them nicely. after all ps-ing is all about presentation. people dun go wow if u can do every single trick there is, but you can't link them together to form a decent combo. plan and film a simple combo and post it in the private vids section and ask for comments from the pros. its a much better way to asses ur progress

Yeah, I agree. Because I hate it when one of my friends comes up to me and says
Them: "I CAN DO A FL TA REV, AM I GOOD NOW!?!"
    Me: "Lemme see it"
Them: *tries 50 times and drops them each time*
Them: "Wait I did it once"
    Them:*tries 50 more times*
Me: *sighs, slaps head* "Okaaaaay then"
    Me: *walks away*
Them: *doesn't notice and tries 50 more times*

There's nothing worse than being inconsistent at a trick, and then there's the ability to link them in combos, which I don't excel at myself.

    aha
it took me around 3 months to getr all that
so i guess you're doing good?
and is still can't do flush sonic:(

thats awesome progress. i've been here since last year and I'm not there yet. (maybe its because I have alot of schoolwork tongue.gif)

I doubt you have mastered all of those tricks. Also, don't just focus on all the tricks you can do, focus on that and making combos.

  11. Missle_Z
    Date: Tue, Mar 4 2008 03:51:17

I don't think you should focus on combobs as much as making those moves as consistent as possible then learning more moves and making THEM as consistent as possible.

    Then learn combos. =D

in one month do you know what I mastered?

    charge
    sonic
    TA
    Twisted Sonic
    Infinity

    so dude, you're like uber

i dont think you've really mastered those tricks, honestly

i mean, flush sonic? that's some hard stuff..
when you do it, does it look as good as fratlyms?

and i personally dont consider thumb flap charge rev a trick..
pressure tricks dont really link well, most of the time
i mean its better than nothing
but yea everyone goes at theit own pace, i dont think you should worry about that, you sound good

  14. TeddyTemptation

how are you only at a month if you joined two months ago?

  15. Simån
    Date: Thu, Mar 6 2008 20:06:33

To me this most of all seems like some lame way of bragging...

What would you do if ppl said, no that is not good for 1 month... All you can do is to keep practicing, no matter what level you are on and how far you are compared to when you started...

I hate how people put the word "mastered" out of context. I remember K4S saying that a trick that is mastered has these elements:

    • Doing the trick consistently
    • Putting into a combo smoothly
    • getting out of the trick in a combo smoothly

There was one more, but I can't remember it.

no i believe you, i'm just saying maybe you have mastered them yet. i mean complete mastery of tricks can take a while..
mastery of the charge alone could take a month, even more
im not saying i dont believe you, i didnt mean to offend you sorry

how can you have mastered all the baks if you can't do bakfal?

because when you say mastered it means that your trick is VERY smooth, and that you can include it after a combo and before....that's my defenition for it... rolleyes.gif

  22. stroud
    Date: Fri, Mar 7 2008 12:38:26

what mean in saying "mastered" is that i can do it about 9 out of ten tries.

Eiya dude. I have been spinning for two months now (ok, four. two consistent months of practice and two on-off laugh.gif)

Anyhoo. If you're like me who wants to learn and make each individual move smooth first before doing tricks (i will seriously practice combo once I graduate in school), then I guess you're on the right track. In my opinion, you're pretty good for 2 months , if I am to compare myself to you biggrin.gif

    Just my two charges wink.gif

If you are not that good at some tricks I would suggest becoming more proficient in them before learning new tricks. There is no such thing as mastering a trick; it can always be improved.
