General Discussion / licensing of tricks?

    I was thinking of this
it just came up randomly but i think we should license the tricks so they can not be sold..
    like how xcm is sold
so then the tricks are being used to make monye without giving credit to the creators..
    that's just an idea.
    discuss.

Really lame idea. I would hate to see any kind of licensing for any tricks in pen spinning. The community has always been very open about sharing ideas, be it tricks, inserts or mods. I think this is one thing that sets pen spinning apart from (and above) things such as XCM. It seems going down this route would only be detrimental to pen spinning.

    dude what the hell?

why would you do that? do you plan on selling tricks to people?

it wouldn't even work... unless the tricks have some magic trick invovled, it'd be pretty easy to figure out how to do it...

I think he means license them so that they can never be sold, except by the license holder(s). That's dumb, because

    1) The license holder(s) could exploit their tricks and sell them.
    2) The holders could create a monopoly in instructional videos and possibly collabs wacko.gif

Isn't the PS community more or less open source? laugh.gif

Y'all act like it was going to happen soon. It will never happen because no one here even has the money to do that, and for those of us that do have the money ( smokin.gif ), it won't be a very good investment. It's much more financially sound to start churning out instructional DVDs and making them high quality stuff, rather than splurging on some copyright licenses. I doubt there will be many out there that'll attempt to make money doing tutorials.

cause they don't know there is free
    like
why would people go pay 300 dollars on how to use microsoft word when there is google
because people don't know about google.

so if the tricks are licensed.
and preventing people from sellign the tricks?
    it can stay free forever.

    but AGAIN
seven year old kids don't know to look on youtube to find tutorials all they know is
    buy this get new tricks!
so doesn't work that well unless there would be like mass advertising of the way to use google and it's services
