General Discussion / Extreme "misnaming" of tricks

Has anyone...

Has anyone ever done a trick and then a non-PSer or someone that doesn't know the trick makes up a name for it?
Example, I was doing a triangle pass once, and my friend goes
"WHOA, ARE YOU DOING A PSEUDO THUMBAROUND?!?!"
Or, people come up to you and ask you
"Can you do this?" and they do a shadow or something and give it a rediculous name, like "korean top spin"

i'v seen people on youtube rename tricks. for example:

Wow.....a guy who looks like he's thirty, a kid and a guy who swears a whole lot...... huh.gif

helicopter (Thumbaround) and Propeller (Sonic)......lol biglaugh.gif he doesn't even hold the pen in the right starting position for thumbaround......XD
and it amazes me when people say the Thumbaround is an "advanced" trick but to us Penspinners, it's merely a fundamental.
I don't even know if the kid is trying to do an extended thumbaround or if he's just doing thumbaround > pass rev T1 - 12.....I'm guessing the latter one.... blink.gif
I also looked around this the kid's youtube......apparently his least favorite pen to spin with is a Dr. Grip Shaker.....if only he knew the possiblities with that pencil....... dunno.gif
The last guy.......that must be the worst fingerpass I've ever seen....at least he does his in the right direction. Every other person(non-pser) I see doing it goes the reverse way.

    Anyways getting back to topic....
I've had many people misname tricks right in front of me....
like the thumbaround and thumbaround reverse, calling it "pen foward spin" and "pen back spin".... blink.gif bangHead.gif

If people ask how I do a trick, I just... tell them how I do the trick. rolleyes.gif It isn't magic and there are steps that you can tell them. Whether they want to practice or not is another thing, but you may as well tell how a trick is performed if they ask. No sense in acting all high and mighty and assuming that someone automatically won't want to learn something, even if it's just a single trick.

These videos were used in a webpage created by Bic, I think, to promote that pen in there. The web page was in Spanish, and I cracked the hell out of me when I saw the naming. But, oh well smile.gif.

It almost makes me mad when people misname tricks and act cool when they can do a Thumbaround or anything easy like that. Especially when people say, " Oh I can do that." when I am doing a combo or something. Then they just do random stuff with their pen. LAME! Hehehehehe.

the worst is when you tell them, the names of Sonic, Thumbaround, and backaround. Then just make up names for combos using ONLY those 3 tricks. one of my friends literally callled a
Sonic23-12>TA>backaround THE SURGEON because of "swift" movements. I about slapped him. what a 'wad..

Oh sorry what I meant by it was that their crappy spinning is an abomination against pen spinning itself, and one of the greatest pen spinners of all time would be rolling over in his grave if he saw some of those people.

My friends are amazed by all the names of tricks, so they randomly spew out words and put trick names in them, like
"ISAAC!!! Do a twisted korean 3000 metal forehead driver using only one hand!!!"
    And I'll be like
    "You. No. ge-fer-how-wh-but-sh-bleeeehhhhhh T_T " (verbal diarrhea)
And then I cry. And yes I did a verbal emoticon.

Those are the only ones I've heard. Some of you guys need to cool down about people misnaming tricks. You'll make yourself look like an idiot getting so obsessed over the name of a pen trick.

Agreed. I personally think that the elitism over the proper naming perpetuates the stereotype of only nerds pen spinning. If anything, you should correct the ones that are getting into spinning heavily, not the ones who will only spin a few times.
