I don't think theres an actual "best angle", but whats the best angle for you to film at? and why?

  2. ShortAssassin
    Date: Sun, Sep 9 2007 17:11:59

I agree that there is no "best" angle, as it depends on the style of the spinner. Someone who spins a lot palm down may not want to use the same angle as someone who spins a lot palm side. Not sure how to describe my angle lol. My camera is roughly 2.5 feet left of my hand and 3.5 feet higher maybe.

Lets not forget the preference of the watcher, personally I hate first person!
I like the camera a little high and a little to the left, if I'm spinning with my right.

Well, I adore the korean style and therefore I use their angle. Having the cam behind my right shoulder. It's the best looking angle aswell

Something thats always annoyed me, whats characteristic of the korean style of spinning, like how is it different? Is it what tricks they use?

  6. UnEmploymentDude

From what I understand "Korean" style is really fast spinning, a lot of arounds and sonics.

Lol ic? I still dont really get it, what separates it?

For a combo with lots of shadows, an angle from above is way superior. Otherwise I like to film from behind my right shoulder for other combos, since I am left handed.

I think the best angle is from somewhere high, and from the shoulder opposite your spinning hand.

I really like top views, and also first person, since that's where you usually see your spinning, it probably looks best from there.

    But I haven't gotten a good angle yet TT.TT

  12. Ceedgee
    Date: Sun, Sep 9 2007 22:00:27

I've tried alot of different angles, but from above is the best for me.
I spin with alot of shadows and sonics, usually palm down, which makes it very nice(imo) to view it from above.
But if you spin with arounds and sonic not palm down I think having the camera so it shows your palm from a little above is the best angle.

Angle from above, like in the picture:

It's is ideal for me to use this angle because I do lots of backarounds, shadow/sonic hybrids, some arounds and infinities. Those tricks look a lot better from this angle than from the side.

    lalala~

Korean style is not about what tricks they use, more like what COMBOS they use.

Korean style may not always refer to koreans

Korean style (by what i know) is a style which incorporates difficult tricks and linkages in common minicombos.

Anyways, my favorite angle is the one that Morse (from PDS) has. youtube'im up!

yea im a dumbass and should have taken off the flash..
    anyways, thats my angle!

The angle that works best for me is right over my shoulder as if you were someone behind me trying to look over my shoulder....looks best for the way i spin right now anyway.

  18. Nova
    Date: Mon, Sep 10 2007 08:24:22

for me, i like using a first person view, but a little higher and from the left(i'm right-handed), as i usually do palm up tricks.

i hardly ever use shadows. wink.gif

    Date: Mon, Sep 10 2007 09:11:03

I always hold my camera in one hand and spin in the other hand about 45 degrees aim to the pen.

The angle can be changed.Up to your style. wink.gif

how do you keep ur camera up when make a video?? a box?

  22. Yiep
    Date: Mon, Sep 10 2007 13:23:59

For me it depends very much on which kind of combo I am recording, and secondly what kind of enviroment.

But I guess most of the time it's in an angle like if someone stood left of me watching

Boxes, tape, and blocks. Depending on which camera I'm using though.

I find good angles can be achieved simply by putting your cam by the edge of a desk or something, then just simply sitting on the ground.

Anyways, I find myself the most relaxed when I am sitting on the ground with my legs crossed. All the thailand spinners do it! (I think they picked it up from me, LOL dbanana.gif)

  25. RifleCow

you can have your computer on your desk and put your web cam on your computer so its situated over your left or right shoulder!

  26. cyber penguin
    Date: Tue, Sep 11 2007 02:48:43

From my perspective I like it to be at a 45 degree angle to the level of my arm and to the right of me. I should be about 2-3 feet away from the pen (when filming on my desk).

  27. bävern
    Date: Tue, Sep 11 2007 15:10:38

    I mostly like top view.

  28. Kam
    Date: Tue, Sep 11 2007 16:06:19

There's no best angle. It depends on what tricks you're shooting, how your body is positioned, what feeling you want to convey, etc.

It's the combination of all the variables involved that makes it impossible to have a predefined formula for choosing an angle, but it's also what makes it so interesting and fun.

Choosing an angle for shooting a video could be an art form in itself wink.gif

Atleast for me it is the korean one. if ure righty handed:

a bit over your left shoulder

And if ure left, just do the reverse.

  30. Ålan
    Date: Tue, Sep 11 2007 21:35:19

Yeah I think it's the same for me, but I have the camera more from above and behind my right shoulder, mostly.

I don't like camera angels which is right towards you so much, it can depends... I don't say that Romain have a awful angel, his angel is cool, well it can depend on what style you have and what you doing for combo and so on.

How does everyone get the angle that seems like it is shot from their shoulder?

  33. CalhounSpinner

I like seeing the back of the hand, since I never can actually see THAT position when I spin! happy.gif

maybe hold it up with one hand and then spin with the other?
or have a prop put up on your shoulder and then jsut put the camera on there
dunno if those exists though xD

best angle for me though is probably to the left of my hand, 45-60 degrees off the table happy.gif (i'm right handed)

My angle is straight above my hand, looking down.

theres just no space in my room
theres no ledge to put my camera on that'll get a decent view of my tricks.
ive tried sticky taping the camera to walls at certain angles, then catch it before it falls -.-

the only decent places that the angle is good, are too close to the floor or walls >.<
how do you get a decent angle?

  37. Radiance / Rae
    Date: Sun, Jan 13 2008 15:38:57

get some1 else to hold the camera while u spin

    or

spin on the floor with the camera sitting on a desk, bed, or something above at an angle

Well now that I am able to get the shot from my shoulder I use that one and I like it. I have a small brown cube chair thing and I put that on my desk with the camera taped down and at an angle. It works great.

    Top view , side view..
it really depends on the type of tricks that i am perfoming,

but i like fist person view, plus a mirror to show the back of my hand
