G2 ColorTwin Extended

Here is my latest personal mod:

Here it is using all 3 of the different bodies

It is balanced, sleek, good looking, customizable (grips) and is retractable. It is a little less than 8\" long and is not too heavy and not too light. It is fairly simple to make and is great to spin.

    Materials:

    Pentel Color Twin

    Pilot G2

2 Extra Grips (can be any grips laying around. they are needed for covering the G2 mechanism)

    Ballsign/Gellyroll Inktube

    HGG Inktube (optional)

    RSVP Inktube (optional)

    Saw

    Teflon Tape

    Celophane Tape

    Sandpaper/File

    Spoiler:

Begin by gutting your Color Twin. Remove back tip, ink cartridge, felt tip and rubbing off the writing (optional). Next clip off the front protrusion on the tip of the Color Twin body. Now saw off about 3/4\" off of the back of the body. You should now have what is in the picture.

Take one G2 and screw it apart. Leave the front portion untouched (including spring) and set it aside. With the back half, saw off where indicated in the picture.

Cut and file away the clip so that it is flush with the rest of the piece. Using any means necessary, slide on the grip off of your second G2 so that some of it hangs off the end. Take your third G2 and cut the necessary amount of off of it to fill up the remaining space. Feel free to use any sort of grip assortment here.

Now gather all of the inktubes together. Cut about an inch or so off of the Ballsign/Gellyroll inktube and tape it onto the back of the G2 inktube. Now take the HGG inktube and cut off about 2.5\" off of it, flush it out with water, wrap the end of it with a small amount of celophane tape and shove it into the Ballsign/Gellyroll inktube. Now use the front of the G2 that you set aside to test the lenth of the inktubes. If needed to be longer, shove an RSVP inktube into the HGG inktube and cut to the necessary height. If too long already, cut off the necessary amount off of the HGG inktube.

Take the Color Twin body and widen the hole in the tip. Make sure that the HGG and RSVP portion of your inktube can pass freely through it.

Wrap the tip end of the Color Twin body in teflon tape. Not too much or else it will bunch up when shoved into the G2 mechanism.

Shove the wrapped end into the gripped, G2 mechanism and push until it stops. the grip should overlap onto the Color Twin body and should look as what is in the picture.

Insert the inktube into the body and make sure that it reaches the mechanism and the it still clicks. Make sure that nothing is rattling also.

Take the front of the G2 that you set aside and sove it into the front of the body. You should need no teflon tape for this part, yet if you want to be certain that it is snug, wrap the threads with the tape and screw it in. At this time you may add any assortments of colored grips here. You have made a G2-CTE!

    Spinability Video

This video was done by my friend Fang. He is much better than me at pen spinning and was able to cover a wider range of tricks so that you can see the full spinability of this pen. Thanks Fang!

Seems like a nice way to use up a spare CT body, good work thumb.gif

edit: The use of 3 G2's is a bit excessive though imo

if you're asking about how it retracts, then very well. if you measure the length just right, you get the smoothness of the G2 clicking mechanism which is great

Wouldn't be better if u turn othersides the g2 grip in the tip side?
    Nice mod. ^^

excessive use of pens, and try to use ball point ink cause gel ink goes flying when u try to spin it. but overall nice looking mod.

im guesssing that you are refering to me using 3 G2's as the excessive part? well you dont have to use G2 grips, but seeing as you buy G2's in packs of 4 and you hardly ever use the front ends, you just use those grips. but thats just me.

If you are referring to the inktubes for extending the G2 inktube, then you dont have to use so many. you can use one long section of a ballsign/gellyroll inktube flushed out with water.

like k4s said, this is a nice way to use teh spare ct body that people usually have lying around after ordering two cts and using the two caps on one, and then just having one lying around after they made their dr. ct (unfortunately, i dont' have a spare -__-'' )
but the 3 g2s.... eh... i guess i could always use the rest of the unused g2s remaining from this mod and make an any-x or something...
but overall, it looks nice--but once again, the amount of materials needed is bothersome

oh, and try and add some measurements to some of the places that people have to cut on the pics above
    (like..the second pic)
and not really necessary, but perhaps use cm measurements...? for the convience of the rest of the world that uses cm and for the fact that it's just more accurate than inches

Ok, i have changed the materials so that it looks more user friendly. You really only need one full G2... i only put 3x because i used 2 other grips to cover the back mechanism... you can obviously use whatever you want back there but since G2's come in packs of 4, you would think that you would have 2 other G2 grips...

compared to the RG2T? in my opinion better, but im sure people would disagree with that. it does infact spin quite well and is almost perfectally balanced. it has a good thickness and nice spinning room. you can even do infinities with both ends haha

When me and pholord were testing the Dr. ST, I modded my ST so that it could write in G2 ink. After a while, I took it apart and there was ink everywhere. The ink seems to come out of the tip so most of my ink was condensed in the cap.

I don't think that that happens. The front part is the same as in original G2s, and these don't spit ink either when you let them drop on the floor.

    But thanks for warning. smile.gif

It could be because the ST has a LOT more momentum than this pen so it will probably be fine. I remember another one of my heavy mods had gel ink inside and the ink actually moved to opposite ends of the tube as well as comming out the tip. As long as there is not a huge amount of weight on the ends gel ink should be fine.

Sweet! and just a word of advice, you dont acctually need 3 G2's... i messed up with that in my tut... you just need one and then 2 other grips for the back end... I just used the 2 other G2's that i got in my 4 pack that i bought. so yea, you can use whatever grips you want on the back so it is also a great way to use up grips that are just lying around!

i dont think that a supertip would work... i tried it with a comssa body too but it was too small of a diameter. plus, then it wont be a G2-CTE.

well, acctually it is a medium weighted mod. its a bit heavier than a regular MX. basically, its weight is perfect for me. i love it and highly recommend it to everyone!!!!

I would like to make this mod, but I have only got a Miffy & Melanie pen instead of a ColorTwin. Can I use my M&M pen? If yes, how long is the body supposed to be? I'm not sure, because it is exclusively indicated how long the cut section of the CT should be.

  37. Guitrum
    Date: Sun, Apr 20 2008 18:50:07

what you can do is see if the tip piece of a g2 fits inside of the back of the m&m before cutting it. then see if the tip fits inside the backhalf of the G2. if so, then the m&m body will work. i am not sure of this because i have no m&m body. so if you could do this and get back to me by posting again, that would be great. then i will measure my own G2-CTE and tell you the measurements.
