so when your spinning in class. should your teacher have the right to take away your pen?

    Edited polls.
Edit2: changed it to 'Should' the teachers have a right.. not 'Does' the teachers have the right

Yes, they should if the student is being a prick by spinning after being told once or even several times to not spin in class.

After several warnings, then yes they can.

I think so if they ask politely for you to stop before hand. That said I don't think they have the right to keep the pens, they should return them after the class is done. I don't think this should be an issue, if some one asks you to stop you should.

  7. minche

:/ of course they should be able.
well, if you are disturbing their class, and if they warn you about it.

    absolutly not!

    they shouldn't do that!

unless you'r a noob and keep dropping the pen...>_>

  10. -JC-

well, if it's finding that it's disrupting the class in any way, whether it be just their teaching or if the attentino of other kids is being taken away because of one's spinning, then of course they should be allowed to

  11. Rorix
    Date: Thu, Apr 24 2008 23:00:54

Yes they should. Pens can disrupt the class or annoy people, so it makes sense that teachers should be allowed to take them.

  12. Tenku069
    Date: Thu, Apr 24 2008 23:13:58

They should be able to, but there are better ways of handling a problem such as penspinning in class.

Usually, that's the point where teachers want to take away your pen in the first place. rolleyes.gif

Playing with PSPs and handphones in class will result in confiscation, because they are explicitly not allowed during lessons. However with pens, it is a different thing altogether, as they are a writing tool. If you do distracting things with it, like excessive aerials, dropping, etc, the teacher will definitely get pissed off. However, the option to confiscate ultimately lies with the teacher, so it depends. ALthough i do acknowledge teachers technically have the rights to confiscate anything they deem as distracting to the lesson, it is quite unreasonable for a teacher to confiscate a writing tool. Especially if your pen mod is the only pen you brought to school. smile.gif

yea. just bring 1 MX to school and that's all. if they confiscate it then complain that u can't do work without it.

Well the thing is... if a teacher took my pen, i wouldnt let them win.
You should instill in their minds the idea that you don't need THAT pen to spin with... and u need SOMETHING to write with, thus taking away a pen won't solve the problem. IF they take away your MX or whatever then say u need something to write. If they give u a pencil, spin the pencil. Are they gonna take away the pencil?

No, they are gonna send you out of the class and let you come back for double the amount of hours.

Thats really all depending on the teacher
and the relations with the teacher. Sure they
should be able to take the pen but
they shouldn't be able to hold it over
    you head.

Anyways most of my teachers would take
my pen. The only one who's gotten close
is my math teacher but he's a little strict.

    Date: Mon, Apr 28 2008 23:05:15

well in school teachers have authority over you and therefore have the right to confiscate your pen if they think it's a distraction.

  26. DeathGod
    Date: Mon, Apr 28 2008 23:37:30

    Depends.

If you do it instead of paying attention to your teacher like me. Yes they should take it away. I got 85% of my class pen spinning now. We start stealing the teachers pencils or pens to spin or mod. Soo now you get detention 1 day for everytime she catch you pen spin. If caught 2nd time 1 week. 1 more time 2 weeks.. Yada yada yada. I still spin when she's not looking XD.

Though if she takes it cause she gets annoyed while it's not distracting anyone then keep sit.. That' not really fair.

I think its wrong for people to take things that arent theirs. If someone is being so annoying that when they are told to stop and they keep pissing people off, they should be kicked out of the class.

It doesnt have anything to do with the pen, it has to do with being disrespectful.

The pen is mine, the class is theirs. If they want to take their class from me, i can understand that, but if they touch my pen, i will stab them with it.

but a person can't be kicked out of the class everyday, it's still the teacher's responsibility to teach that kid and make sure he passes the tests at the end
it may be the child's fault if he/she fails, but the teacher doesn't want one of his/her students to fail in any case, cause it makes him/her look bad---if a kid fails, it makes it look like he/she isn't teaching his/her students well enough
so a teacher can kick a student out once or twice, but he/she can't do it everyday

i say just take the pen away >.>'' give the student a pencil--then at least the tricks he/she does won't be as fancy unless he's chautran or something >.< but i highly doubt that there's too many chautran's out there tongue.gif

Interesting point. I still think that its wrong to teach kids that its ok to take things from other people. Personally, i think that if a kid gets kicked out everyday then his parents should be notified. This is still a matter of property. The pen is the students. The class is the teachers. The kid, is the parents.

This topic could easily be changed to be about the way children are disciplined and taught in school, and about the school's responsibility to raise children while parents are not around. I have a lot of thoughts about this but i worry i'll get off topic very quickly.

Highschool is much different than college. If it was a college class and the teacher took my pen, i would report them. If they asked me to leave, i would probably not be welcome back. I suppose you cant really do that in highschool.

hmm... I guess if you treat your students like prisoners they will act like inmates.

put spinning pens and (dropping them) many distract that teacher making (he/she) forget what they were saying, distract other students 'learning enviorment'. so yea, they do have the rite,

plus they give you your pens back at the end of class so its not like their stealing..
their just taking it away so you can't go and distract people.

btw: this topic almost sounds like it could fit in the 'philosophy' section

No teacher that i've ever had has given me back something they have taken from me. I think that it is the responsibility of the student to act mature, and to know when they are being annoying. If people are contstantly being disciplined like little kids, they will continue to act like little kids.

I think that if the teacher resorts to taking the pen, It would be nice if they gave the student a warning beforehand and made it a point to explain why they are taking the pen. If the teacher just takes the pen and gives no explaination and acts out of frustration, the student will probably keep doing it in the future.

Kids know how to push buttons and they try hard to do so, especially annoying kids. This is the reason that so many teachers have absolutely no respect from their students and why kids act out of control.

I think that teachers have a responsibility to teach students discipline and respect, perhaps even moreso than the actual course material.

Depends. How many people have you killed with your KT in class?

Technically, if your spinning a Ballsign, which doesn't write, its not a writing utensil...
