Regular Pen Discussion / Commonly used METAL TIPS
weight and pictures included!
-
Date: Sat, Apr 26 2008 00:40:47
Alright, here are some commonly used metal tips. If you want to add another tip to this list please make sure it's actually somewhat common...posting up rare metal tips that no one can find is not useful, sorry.
Now, you might be wondering why did i put "±0.015g" after each weight. In case you dont know what that means, it means that each tip may either be plus 0.015g or minus 0.015g from the posted weight...that's because pen metal tips are not made with stringent guidelines so each metal tip is bound to vary a little bit in weight.
HUGE picture of metal tips (tips are not #'d but it's the same picture as above)
1. Hybrid Gel Grip (HGG) - 0.674g (±0.015g)
2. Signo - 1.836g (±0.015g)
3. Dr.grip shaker (american) - 3.982g (±0.015g)
4. Dr.grip shaker (japanese) - 4.034g (±0.015g)
5. Hybrid Gel Roller (HGR) *New version* - 1.251g (±0.015g)
6. Pentel 207 (P207) - 1.108g (±0.015g)
7. G3 - 1.457g (±0.015g)
8. Nextage - 3.629g (±0.015g)
9. Aspire (Pencil) - 3.354g (±0.015g)
10. Aspire (Pen) - 3.925g (±0.015g)
11. Dr.grip PEN (american) - 3.582g (±0.015g)
12. Dr.grip Shaker (japanese) w/ filed off tip - 4.0410g (±0.015g)
13. Zebra F-301 (pen) - 1.862g (±0.015g)
14. Zebra Telescopic pen - 2.3494g (±0.015g)
---------------------------
Note: The old version HGR pens have the exact same tip as HGG
Note 2: Picture of the dr.grip pen tip have not been added yet.
Note 3: As you can see from the weight of the dr.grip tip that had the front filed down, the weight is actually higher than the non-shaved dr.grip tip which just goes to show you how much tip weight varies due to non strict manufacturing standards. -
Date: Sat, Apr 26 2008 00:50:09
Thanks! you have too many pens T_T
-
Date: Sat, Apr 26 2008 01:02:24
How many do you have of each of these? o_O
Or you can just say all the pens, a pic would be best.
Is a grip-matic not common enough? -
Date: Sat, Apr 26 2008 02:02:54
Nice dude!
-
Date: Sat, Apr 26 2008 02:05:33
Hmm i only use the first three ones so there not "commonly used" by me but wahtever thatnks for the list.
-
Date: Sat, Apr 26 2008 02:31:33
wow, jesus, you have a lot of tips
and a signo weighs about as much as 2-3 hgg tips 0.0..
well i kinda figured it was around 2....
and 1 dr. grip tip = about 6 hgg tips 0.0.... wow... -
Date: Sat, Apr 26 2008 02:36:41
Nextage....
How come I've never heard of that pen??
Anyone got pic? -
Date: Sat, Apr 26 2008 03:44:46
Pilot Nextage, cost a little over $3.00. Also, it's a shaker, but I think the body has to be cut to get the shaker out... -
Date: Sat, Apr 26 2008 04:22:49
You can screw off the grip section to take out the shaker part, FYI. Nice collection of tips and detailed listing of weights each tip, it will help those who want to see how many HGG=Signo tips. I tried weighing my tips last time on my school's electronic scale balance, the figure is close to yours, so I'd say its accurate.
-
Date: Sat, Apr 26 2008 04:49:41
now we nid weights for grips and bodies *hint hint*
-
Date: Sat, Apr 26 2008 06:16:26
Thanks for the info, Gunblakes, but for some reason, the clicking mechanism has to be removed instead... And the shaker, is a metal spring...
On-topic: Yay, my MX^2's are pretty much the same, since I used an HGR tip with a HGG tip over it instead of 3 HGG tips. -
Date: Sat, Apr 26 2008 06:42:52
can you compare their price, please?
-
Date: Sat, Apr 26 2008 06:47:32QUOTE (Tratto_Pen @ Apr 26 2008, 01:42 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>can you compare their price, please?
well, the hgg tip can come from an hgg or a few other pens as well so the prices can vary
and different stores sell the same pens at differnet prices, so it depends on where you go as well
like dr. grip shakers that are found in this japanese store that i know of in nyc costs about $8-10 (dont' remember the exact price) but can cost as little as $3-5 in japan (okay, i don't know how accurate taht is, but i'm just giving an example cause i think i heard that dr. grip shakers are around that price in japan---not 100% sure though) -
Date: Mon, Apr 28 2008 05:11:16
Umm..K4S...what's wrong with your hybrid Gel Rollers?
The Tip of the Hybrid Gel Rollers i use are the exact same as the HGG tip...they screw on to the hGG body fine..
wtf...u got sum pwnt HGRs -
Date: Mon, Apr 28 2008 05:26:51
Those HGR tips are from the new ones. They have a grip now too.

I believe the first famous mod it was used in was the "syn-nextex" or something...there are A LOT of variations based on the original one varying in what caps/body are used. Mod originated from thailand i think. -

Substitute for the shaker tip. That way you dont have to destroy the tip by filing the sharp point off. -

Yeah they should really make like strict guidelines on how uniform a product should be. But anyways K4S thanks for the clarification.

i found a metal tip that's somewhat alike hgg tip, the only difference is that the inside of the tip is a bit smaller i guess...but it coulb be a replacing for hgg tip

How come signo tips are used to sub hgg tips even though signo tips are like 3 times the weight of hgg tips?
-

rsvp MX is a back heavy mod (the center of balance lies closer to the back since it's heavier). By using a signo tip it balances the MX more so that it's no longer as back heavy (center of balance moves closer to the center of pen). -

Dont think i can find these where i live
...updated with weight of F-301 metal tip. It is very close to the weight of a signo tip, so after making all my new comssa quadrilogy pen mods you're sure to have a bunch of these tips lying around that you can use for an MX or something :>
Also, some of the tips people have been mentioning, i can't find them locally so i cant weigh them. Also, make sure they're common tips that a lot of other people can find before you suggest something. -

KS online sporty tips
Grip Matic tips

Linestyle metal grip things
Hi-Tec C tips
I don't know if these are commonly used, and you probably don't have most of these tips, but anything would be nice, and no harm in asking right? xD

Well at first I thought it was me trippin, but I showed TEK a buster cyl that had different Airfits tips. It seemed that the ones I had were much thinner then the ones he gave me. It makes the buster cyl feel much lighter. He spun both and they felt very different. I don't know what happened. Maybe it was the place where they were made. Maybe they were faulty tips who knows right?
They seem identical right??? ^^^^^^
Nothing yet? ^^^^
How about now?
Well Idk but when you put the thicker tips on a buster cyl it spins much different then with the thin tips.
So just make sure you don't end up with thin airfit tips unless you want a lighter buster cyl. -

i think you got the airfit pen which is lighter then the mech pencil tip or something, that could be why.

yup, the Airfit gel pen tips are lighter than the Airfit mechanical pencil tips. You'll notice that a Buster CYL with Airfit MP tips pack more momentum then the ones with Airfit Gel pen tips. -

They are not 2 or 3 times heavier
theyre a bit heavier, prolly 1.5-ish. Be careful, you will screw up people who reference this thread for subs
And, im quite curious as to the weight of an Alpha gel tip.
As per the one used in the old Seven watercolor mod.

On the cap, it should say Signo DX, or Gel Grip.
and if you look inside the tip, it should all be a metallic-ish color, if you see any brown/bronze color,
thats a dead giveaway that its a copper tip(not what you want) -

They're lighter than signos and the the difference is noticeable. If anything they would be closer to metal G3 tips.QUOTE (Shakenbake @ Dec 20 2009, 06:01 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>you sure ? ? i dont think so its a little lighter then signo kinda like two hggs or a g3
I've heard they're somewhere near 2.5 HGG tips or something rather. -
Date: Mon, Dec 21 2009 06:05:11
I remember seeing somewhere that hi tecs are around 1.1 grams, signos on the other hand are around 1.8 grams -- that's a fairly big difference, definitely not a negligible amount. That's like 0.3 grams less than G3, which is 0.4 grams less than signos. Hggs are like .7 grams right? (too lazy to check the front page)...so you can compare that to the other weights
-
Date: Mon, Dec 21 2009 08:37:41
jc is prob right
because toro mx is cog=cop and it uses a hi tec c tip
whereas signo tipped mx with inktube, and hgg tip in cap is front heavy
so hi tec c < signo - (metal part of inktube + hgg tip)
??? its prob 1.1g

@Nation: SEVEN G-3 isn't supposed to be balanced. If you read the original tutorial ponkotu made on his blog, he says you can put aluminum tape on the G-3 front (where the G-3 grip used to be) to balance it out. -

This makes much more sense; Even if it's backheavy, It makes no sense to put the heavier tip in the back, unbalancing it further.QUOTE (ION @ Dec 26 2009, 11:14 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>How is that retarded?
