Ducans are good. well.. sort of.

their cheap and fun to mod.

as for yomega, their raiders are the most commonly used yoyo for 2A since after modding them they just automatically own the world upside down. teach.gif
haha. i'm kidding. raiders are good, but i prefer sunsets.

ok check the yoyonation.com fourm and look under modds there is a raider mod there its pritty simple but kinda hard in a way because of things you get. but the thing about the raider mod is its only good for 2A

  10. Trogz
    Date: Sat, Sep 15 2007 04:00:33

no theyre just whats cool right now, they are small fun and have hubstacks, which ARE SO MUCH FUN to play with. Hubstacks are bearings on the sides that sin freely from the body, so you can just "ripcord" the yoyo to get it spinning instead of throwing. it has quite a hefty price on it though.

    Dark Magic

I saw this a while back, it was designed by this guy with this great site for learning tricks. i never got into it though because I don't have a decent yoyo.

That wasn't the site that i just talked about, that site is here. Great site for learning tricks biggrin.gif

  15. Trogz
    Date: Sun, Sep 30 2007 12:13:37

i personally think a modified x convict will play the best. out of the box it is responsive, so you can learn beginner and intermediate tricks, and then modify it by putting in a KonKave bearing with shims to make it spin longer and widen the gap which will lower the response level and flowable silicone which will bind better than stock YYJ o rings. Once you are really advanced, you can move up to a high end metal yoyo.

What's the downfall to a newbie getting a high end yoyo? Too responsive? Require too much maintanence? I was looking into getting a yoyo to play around with and your comment caught my eye.

  17. Nova
    Date: Mon, Oct 1 2007 09:42:12

actually, a metal yoyo is less responsive, as most 1A yoyo players like.

it's just painful when your metal yoyo hits the floor since it's expensive. you do less stupid things like hitting the floor as you progress. laugh.gif

  18. Trogz
    Date: Mon, Oct 1 2007 20:51:10

high end metals have ZERO response so they spin longer and you can do slack tricks like suicides, lacerations, grinds, and whips.

it is not good for a noob to get a high end yoyo because noobs will need to practice getting straight throws, so they will be doing nothing but throwing the yoyo, sleeping it and then returning it with a pull. metals are pretty unforgiving on bad throws and you have to bind them to return them to your hand. noobs need to practice landing the yoyo on the string in tricks like trapeze and barrel roll, and they cant bind if they cant get the yoyo on the string. Plus, it hurts a lot less to get hit on the knuckles with a plastic yoyo than a metal.

To a complete beginner to 1A, i would recommend:

    yoyojam kickside
    yoyojam lyn fury
duncan freehand zero ( dont use the counterweights
    yoyofactory FAST 201
    yoyojam journey.

    Um it's the 4a division i think(off string)

he throws the yoyo and catches it in the string do a few tricks throw it again blahblahblah

something like that i guess it's pretty hard to learn it if you don't have a spacy place because you'll hit stuff if made a mistake

HEY THATS A FRIEND OF MINE! i used to see him every saturday, but i stopped going to yoyo gatherings. wink.gif
he's gonna win Worlds someday for sure.

thats the offstring division, the yoyo was never looped to the string in the first place. biggrin.gif

i don't especially like 4A. i prefer 2A as it is the most visual IMO. laugh.gif

  28. Trogz
    Date: Tue, Oct 2 2007 20:40:40

4A (or offstring) uses a fairly responsive and oversized yoyo like a YYJ aquarius or YYF flymaster that is NOT attached tothe yoyo. This is probably the hardest catagory of yoyo and drops are VERY common. this is why many people use a plastic or rubber yoyo with replaceable rims, because no one wants to fling their 100 dollar 888 into the air and drop it on the ground. 4A requires a lot of work. If you do it right though, it is extremely impressive. the yoyo is spun then caught on the string, then the player uses regenerations (bind and release) to speed it up. to catch the yoyo, the player may bind or just hop it up and catch it. The tricks in 4A are usually bounces, whips and lacerations. for a great example of 4A, watch the second part of Ultimatsz' clip (hes the first clip) in the 2nd manipulations collab.

edit: @K4S: the yoyo is NEVER attached to the string at any time in 4A

  29. Sfsr
    Date: Sat, Oct 6 2007 20:28:51

I've been able to throw down some special yoyo and make it spin at the bottom for a couple of seconds since I was small. That's as far as my yoyoing skills go though :(

Hello! I am Doubleyou from YYN I am glad to see fellow members here!
I have been playing yoyo on/off for the past 4/5 years

its a really fun manipulation form, and I can only recommend that you try it if you havent already!
you dont need an expensive yoyo to play! many people believe that if they get this next expensive yoyo, it will help them get better. this is not the case! it might encourage you to pick it more up, but it wont help you learn tricks!

I just started taking PS seriously after a fellow member of YYN was so generous to provide me with two awesome mods a R.S.V.P MX and a Comsa! what more could I ask for!
I am now totally addicted to PS as well.

besides yoyoing and PS I do ALL kinds of other stuff including sleight of hand, juggling, speedsolves, skating etc etc

feel free to ask me for advice if you need any towards yoyo or any other skilltoy!

    Kind Regards,

    Sigurd

Anyone here going to the National Contest this year? I'm going...I think. Funds are really tight this year but if I go then this will be my 10th consecutive year, so I'm really trying to make it.

Woah, didn't expect to see a thread for yoyoing. I goto extremespin.org/forum for talking about yoyoing. I use a 08 888 and a G5. Been yoyoing for 2 years now. I have been to 3 Indiana state compitetions.

Very cool to see some yoyoers here. I don't know if anyone cares anymore, but I plan to team up with Boxthor to hopefully bring Sector Y back. Talks are in the work and there's a lot of politics, but all that aside I think we should have a very nice centralized website for easy-to-find trick access.

I'm currently throwing some recessed FHZs and they're fantastic. I have silicone and recess mods if anyone is interested. I also have retail stuff for cheap/trade for pens if anyone is interested. tongue.gif

Has anyone tried any of the new YoYoFactory California's? I really like what YYF has done in recent years with the 888, but I'm not so much a fan of the shape of the G5s and SuperStars. I haven't tried a Skyline though.

YES! I loved sector Y. that's where I learned all my tricks back when I first started.
and the Cali's actually pretty good, like a smoother and faster 401k.

To be honest, the technology advances in terms of better yoyos and more information on the internet has made yoyoing a lot easier to learn these days. It's not really easy (what skill is?) but kids these days are getting up to speed in under a year or two, instead of 5-10 years like many "old school" players.

I've been yoyoing since 1999, and kids who picked up a yoyo in 2008 are better than me. tongue.gif

PM me on how to get started on the right track. I can point you in the right directions to make it a fairly painless.

I've played YOYO for a while (about 5-6 months).

    I'm using FHZ.
I wonder how to wind up a yoyo? any tutorial video?

I personally love Yoyoing. I've been doing it since 7th grade. I've entertained parties and festibles for multiple years. I am a huge fan of Yoyo Jam yoyos. I love my Dark Magic. Infinite Illusions (yoyoguy.com) is where I get all of my supplies and I even went to the store (lofty pursiuts) in Tallahassee, Florida.

I do all 5 styles of yoyoing (string, double looping, double string, off string, and freehand) and even tried stuff like 8A (double off string).

I use Type 8 50-50 slick string (white but have yellow as well).

Making up tricks is a fun way to pass time. It is hard to find me without a yoyo or pen in my pocket.

Yoyoing is easier than pen spinning in my opinion. Once you understand how to use your yoyo it almost comes natural. Just takes awhile to learn all the mounts, slack mounts, hand movements, and binds, but once you get that, its a breeze. cool.gif

yoyoing is easier than penspinning, a lot easier. People who say that aren't using an unresponsive yoyo. I am progressing WAY faster in yoyoing than I am with penspinning. I have been yoyoing for a month and I'm already on intermediate tricks, using unresponsive yoyos, which means you have to do a bind to get the yoyo to come back up.

For a beginner, I would recommend using a velocity, the starburst response system means you can adjust the yoyo to be responsive/unresponsive. And for string go to yoyogstring.com and buy a sampler pack, its the best string you can get.

    yoyonation.com

    The velocity is $20

    yoyogstring.com

Order string only from here smile.gif

Also the velocity will feel weird at first, once the bearing breaks in (doesn't take long) it will feel much better.

I highly recommend using the rubber starburst pieces that are packaged with the yoyo. Switching out the pieces seems a bit weird at first but you'll get them in.

do alot more tricks. I did this before cecil got me into pen spinning. I like pen spinning more

yeah it's easier to pick up for many ppl. It's really fun too (somewhat compared to psing), but you can't do it using only a small confined space (unless you have a mighty flea lol). But yeah, when you get to whips and slacks, it gets a little tricky. Otherwise, it's a great manipulation imo

Others just don't understand psing so... it depends. I tried teaching psing and yoyoing to one kid. He couldn't understand psing at all compared to yoyoing. lls

    -------------------------
What yoyos do you (plural) recommend cause I need to buy some lube. My Atmosphere's bearing needs to be cleaned, so I'm getting a yoyo from $20-$30. I'm at plastic whips and lindy loop suicides atm. I haven't yoyoed to learn new tricks cause the yoyo is too responsive atm/lost too much sleep time.
    (no expensive metals plz haha)

    yoyos I prefer-
    Rec Rev - through a trade ($40)
protostar b/c I'm getting a great deal, but I'd rather get a legacy cause there are somewhat limited quantities.($30-ish)
    total- $70

good enough? I don't have "any" yoyos, so I think I need some more. =P
I could get a yyf/clyw/spyy metal though, but idk if I really need that kind of yoyo right now (i.e. punchline, Campfire, DNA). I'm not that good yet.

    fixed
