@K4S.. but if you can do that to a big audience it's definately worth it.

I thought this was called glowstringing. I'm guessing that they are both names for it, anyway that was pretty fo'shizz. That must take a while to get it all that smooth, good job. Awesome clap.gifthumb.gif

No, there are only strings when you turn the lights on, without the lights, it is only you and the magic of the sticks teach.gif

I did something like this with rubber balls on strings once but it didn't have quite the same effect, I must try this. BTW, do regular glow sticks work very well?

  12. K4S
    Date: Sun, Sep 30 2007 01:19:16

Regular glowsticks work fine. I guess the high intensity ones are only needed when you need to showoff/perform for people.

Yeah like you said they are often used for preforming, either in videos or in person. The 5 minute title however is often misleading. Most sticks that are labeled as 5-minute high intensity glowsticks acutally last for about 15 minutes. The "5-minute" label is more supposed to denote the most intense portion of the duration of the stick. So it's really bright for 5 minutes, then meeeeeeh for the rest, supposedly. It really depends on the color. Like orange is really really really bright for 2 minutes or so, then dims to bleh for anywhere from like 8-13 minutes longer. Green is the second brightest, and stays bright for a long time. Aqua is the third brightest and will last a little less than green. Blue is the next, and lasts even less than aqua and is less bright.

The 5-minute ultra high intensity oranges are what we use for our annual "ultra circle" =D. Which I'll post in a clip later. Glowsticking is centered a bit more in person than penspinning. We have meetups very often.

hey guys, wow i havent been on these forums for a while, and i wanted to tell people about glowstringing, but i guess you guys know! haha

so i left upsb to start devoting my time to glowstringing, and im completely hooked. if you like pen spinning, trust me, you WILL get hooked. its amazingly addictive, and the sense of accomplishment learning a new trick in glowstringing/poi is amplified. you cant be narrow minded about it tho.

ill post a vid up soon once im done uploading it

edit: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DoV4NRPN_80...re=channel_page there im a noob so tongue.gif

  43. 000zero0000
    Date: Wed, Apr 22 2009 04:28:49

can you guys help me learn weave, the basic one. (i think its called 3 beat weave but im not sure) i can't seem to get both of my hands moving at the same time when i cross, and when i can, the sticks hit each other sleep(1).gif

  44. Radiance
    Date: Wed, Apr 22 2009 06:12:52

the weaves are done split time, which means the strings aren't moving at the same time, but at seperate times. Practice with one string and once you can get the pattern with one, learn the pattern with the other hand. Than learn the ENTIRE trick with both strings. Remember that one string leads, and the other follows; that'll fix the problem you have with the sticks hitting each other.

  45. 000zero0000
    Date: Wed, Apr 22 2009 06:22:17

ill work on it, i think ill learn the bicept thing and orbital before weave

  46. darkinertia
    Date: Wed, Apr 22 2009 06:28:07

try not to jump ahead of yourself man.... the orbital and bicep wraps are more advanced tricks. you wont be able to use them in combos as good until you master the weave or at least your reels. im not saying dont try to learn them, its fun to mess around with, but you might find it difficult unless you know the basics. and orbitals is a hard trick as it is lol it takes a lot of practice....learn airwraps first

  47. Radiance
    Date: Wed, Apr 22 2009 23:41:06

    i agree with dark inertia.

glowsticking is like penspinning. It'll be useless if you learn a bunch of complicated tricks if you can't link them with the basic reels, weaves, etc.

  48. 000zero0000
    Date: Thu, Apr 23 2009 04:44:39

arn't bicep wraps just like arm wraps but your doing your biceps?

btw: when you do split time in front of yourself, do the strings have to overlap when you spin them? or are you allowed to spin it at arms length

I find making combo's to be really hard to come up with >_>

umm i hope this isn't too much of a bother, but can you make a short video of some simple combos?

    Shoot

just remembered, can you just link me to GS.C thread that'll help me get really started? I browsed the forums and i found it to be slightly unhelpful (nothing for newbie newbies.)

mm i use 36 inch laces. and im pretty sure melvenorc12 uses 45 inch ones. but try them out and see what you prefer.

  63. melvenorc12
    Date: Wed, Oct 28 2009 18:56:35

Yeah I use 45" round laces that don't stretch, but I tie them around my hand a little bit otherwise they'd be too long.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eMXu0X3yisg

That pretty much shows it. The first way I show how I tie with normal two handed stringing, then I show how I tie with one handed stringing.
