The Origin of Universal Pen Spinning Board
Universal Pen Spinning Board(UPSB) is the replacement of Pentix Board. But UPSB is not part of Pentrix. It is an independent Pen Spinning forum. On 26 September 2003, Pentix was taking up an enourmous amount of bandwidth for the second time, causing its parent's hosting, Modenstudios, to be temporary suspended. Hence, Kam decided to carry forward the Pentrix Website together with the UPSB Project. The idea was first brought up on Sat 22 June 2002 by Kam in Pentix Board.
An extract from Pentix Board Material by Kam:QUOTE ("Kam")Here's my new idea...it's based on several facts:
1. Although there aren't too many pen spinning sites on the web, there are at least a few Pen Spinning sites out there, and the number should be growing in the future.
2. Only a few of these sites has message boards. And of these message boards, most are not very popular (meaning there are not many users or posts).
3. This, of course, is a pain for pen spinners, since they have to register for multiple message boards and check them all for new messages.
Ok, now to the idea. The idea is to unify all these message boards into a single one, like a Universal Pen Spinning Board (let's temporarily call this UB for short). This board will not belong to any particular site, but rather as a separate entity/site. All pen spinning sites that wish to participate in this project, will have its site link to the this same board.
The UB will then be moderated by users/owners of all sites, instead of just one. Not only this will bring more users, as it's not just one site's board, but it will also lessen site owners work to maintain the board.
With me so far? If there are any questions or comments, please post it...Let's continue...
To be fair to all site owners, the layout of the board will be customizable by site admins (board administrators = site owners). So, there should be a few UB board templates/styles a user can choose from. If he is a user from Pentix, he can choose to use a Pentix style, which will have the looks and feel of the same site (in this case, Pentix). If he is a user of say, Hantricks, he will have the option to choose a Hantricks style, which will have the looks and feel of that site (HanTricks). And so on...
Implementing all these is not a problem, as I know that phpBB allows users to choose between the different templates installed on the board, and all of these templates could be fully customized.
Another advantage, since I'll be implementing the Pen Spinners section into this board, is that it would be very convinient to have all the data about pen spinners available in one place. Also, users will only need to register once and remember one password (that often seems to be a problem with me )
Oh, I almost forgot to mention...Since Pentix Board seems to be the most popular pen spinning board nowadays (at least in English), I obviouslay plan on using it as the new Universal Board (if the project is successful). I hope nobody minds After all, why create another board and loose again more content in the process.
Comments, suggestions, ideas are welcome...

The birth of UPSB took place on 7 October 2003. During then, UPSB is still under beta stage, with its url as http://www.pentrix.com/upsb while Pentix Board is still the main English Pen Spinning Board.
After its second downtime, Pentix was replaced immediately by Pentrix. As there were many articles and threads to be moved and organized from the original Pentix Board to UPSB. UPSB was officially released ("Unlocked" for discussion) only in January 2004 according to the Announcement made in News Section.
During the maintenance period, UPSB could not be accessed as all the sections were locked. As the beta-UPSB didn't turn out well, Kam secretly made a second one (http://www.pentrix.com/upsb2), and asked the moderators to look at it before hand, including some of our beta-testers. After a month, the design was finalized, a lot of stickies had reference to the /upsb2/ forum and it would have taken too much time to rename every address to /upsb/. Hence, "/upsb2" became the fix url.
Due to the long period of maintenance (READ THIS), several Pentix Board Members were gone. Despite the loss of old Pentix Members, more new members came to UPSB with the help of several Pen Spinning Showcases such as Kam's Superhandz Showcase and Pendolsa's Pen Spinning Collaboration Video.
UPSB Moderators
Read Pentix for 1st and 2nd Batch of Pentix Moderators.
On Sunday 17 April 2005, Niffe becomes a Beta-Moderator. He is currently undergoing a training period to become a Moderator. As quoted by Zombo, Niffe was unanimously voted by the current moderators as the best candidate for this position because of his perseverance, and the quality of his work in projects such as the Naming Commitee.
UPSB Committees
UPSB also contains several committee formed by UPSB's Members such as:- Battle Records Committee (BRC)
- Pen Spinning Naming Committee
- Kammys Awards Committee

http://www.pentrix.com/upsb2/viewtopic.php?t=131
Due to its popularity, the number of pages reaches 7 pages long, making a new record in Pentix Board. But due to inconsistent numberings format and sequence, the idea of recompiling was brought up in UPSB. After several discussions, the topic was then recompiled by one of our moderators, AC, on Mon Apr 28, 2003. Currently, the topic has reached 28+ pages long. - "The Latest Tricks and Combos We Are Working On" in X-Zone
http://www.pentrix.com/upsb2/viewtopic.php?t=271
First started by nhk_9 on Sat Nov 16, 2002. Another good topic that has been moved from Pentix Board to UPSB. The topic was previously started in Pentix's Lost and Found Section, which has now been renamed as X-Zone in UPSB. - "Embarassing Pen Spinning stories!" in General Discussion
http://www.pentrix.com/upsb2/viewtopic.php?t=1592
The original thread was started by LordVoid:
Embarrassing PS story
Which was quickly followed up by this one:
Embarrassing PS story v2
and this one:
Pen spinning pimp v1
This was considered a great topic idea by everyone, so Zombo decided to make a sticky out of this. Since then people have regularly been updating the thread with new contents. At the time of writing, the thread now has 152 stories. The notation used of "versions" is inspired by the thread names by LordVoid. - "UPSB Board Records" in General Discussion
http://www.pentrix.com/upsb2/viewtopic.php?t=2612
This thread contains much up-to-date information on records made by UPSB Members. This topic was created by Phya. The records ranged from oldest UPSB Member to longest post made.
