UPSB v3
Regular Pen Discussion / Spinz Q&A with JAKKS
Any questions about Spinz
-
Date: Tue, May 13 2008 21:53:38
I manage the Spinz line for Jakks Pacific, Inc. I am going to set up a Q&A session on UPSB so that you can ask any questions about Spinz, and I can address any concerns you may have. I will post the date and time of the Q&A session by this Friday afternoon.
-
Date: Wed, May 14 2008 03:58:43
eh, i hope im not too early, but how much do they cost?
-
Date: Wed, May 14 2008 04:12:51
If this is successful, are you planning on releasing a second line of Spinz? Will you take the input of the full board on helping with the pens if you do?
-
Date: Wed, May 14 2008 05:17:25
Are they going to be avaliable in Singapore?
-
Date: Wed, May 14 2008 09:42:37
are they going to be available on europe?
-
Date: Wed, May 14 2008 12:45:50
I think i better ask 1st before i see whether i'm able to be on the Q&A session later.
Are they going to be available in malaysia?
If yes, what store/company going to sell them? -
Date: Wed, May 14 2008 12:49:39
Where are you going to market the product of SpinZ other than North America?
-
Date: Wed, May 14 2008 13:02:25
Guys the Q&A hasn't even begun yet.
-
Date: Wed, May 14 2008 13:53:32
dont ask your questions now,
I believe the SpinZ representative will use the shoutbox or something to answer questions. -
Date: Wed, May 14 2008 16:17:45
I will try to answer all questions that are posted on this thread by 3pm Friday afternoon. After that I will checking the thread weekly to answer any new questions that arise.
-
Date: Wed, May 14 2008 17:54:23
What is more important to you right now, selling to veteran spinners, or trying to get new people into the hobby?
-
Date: Wed, May 14 2008 19:19:28
Ok cool then. Umm will you be producing more models of pens for the more advanced spinners, such as a Pro Line of spinz pens?
-
Date: Wed, May 14 2008 20:37:40
Will Spinz eventually be sold in Canada? You americans always leave us canadians behind T_T
-
Date: Wed, May 14 2008 21:33:53
How well are spinz selling?
-
Date: Wed, May 14 2008 22:34:41
Will later models of Spinz resemble different kinds pens such as a Dr. KT?
-
Date: Thu, May 15 2008 00:32:13
*appears out of the inky mist*...
hypothetically how long will it be before a new line of spinz is developed if they become very popular.
Will you be needing some more advanced spinners for more comercials in the futer?
and
In the next line please improve the zero line by shifting the weight to the ends rather than most of it being in the body.
The axis is great but I find the clip that it comes with annoying. The next line should just have a tool with a better handle. -

Sad but true... -

How do new spinners who buy spinZ increase their penspinning knowledge? is there a link in the instructions to UPSB or something?
-
Date: Thu, May 15 2008 02:42:55
Some of the names and methods you provide in your trick posters are a bit outdated (Sonic 2x is an outdated name, instructions for Thumbspin 1.5 are incorrect).
Do you plan to change that? Do you plan on providing instructions for basic combos, like Sonic > TA, K4LC and others? -
Date: Thu, May 15 2008 03:03:29
What stores are they sold in?

The Spinz products seem to be targeted towards new, inexperienced and (much) younger spinners. I get this feeling from the advertising, the website information and the products themselves. My question is: Why should more experienced spinners buy into the Spinz product line, and what (if any) attempts are being made by JAKKS to appeal to those spinners?
-
Date: Fri, May 16 2008 03:58:24
Will the Spinz products be sold in New Zealand?
-
Date: Fri, May 16 2008 05:50:01
ok, how about we consolidate all the "Will Spinz be sold in {name of the country here}?" into one generic question: Where will Spinz be sold?
@Pen_Maker: I think the point of having a Q&A session is to make the information available to everyone, so people won't keep asking the same questions. -
Date: Fri, May 16 2008 11:38:49
Agreed.
Maybe this could be made into a FAQ and stickied. And the questions asked during the Q & A can be repasted here for the benefit of those who cant make it. -
Date: Fri, May 16 2008 22:14:13
I am going to start answering questions now and will do so for as lon as I can. I will check back weekly to see if their are any more questions. I want to make sure everyone knows we created this line with Pen Spinners in mind and we will keep evolving each pen as time goes on to improve their performance. We are trying to bring PS to the main stream while keeping the integrity of it. We are not hear to make cheap pens or turn it into something for little kids. We also encourage people to post comments regarding how to improve our pens or to tell us what they want to see from us.
We would also like to see some web videos of you using our pens.
Thanks for the questions and commentsQUOTE (asian pen @ May 13 2008, 11:58 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>eh, i hope im not too early, but how much do they cost?
Prices will vary depending on the retailer.
Prices will vary from
Zero - $6.99-$9.99
Ronin - $9.99-$14.99
Axis - $19.99 - $24.99QUOTE (ChinesePandaMan8 @ May 14 2008, 12:12 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>If this is successful, are you planning on releasing a second line of Spinz? Will you take the input of the full board on helping with the pens if you do?
We are planning on multiple series of SpinZ. When a new series comes out we will change graphics and update the pen if needed.
We definatley will take input to improve our pens. We encourage it.QUOTE (Jaybles @ May 14 2008, 01:17 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>Are they going to be avaliable in Singapore?

We are are supporting SpinZ in all the counties who are or will be buying SpinZ. This is North America, Australia, Europe, Asia and South America.QUOTE (IAmTheMrGuy @ May 14 2008, 01:54 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>What is more important to you right now, selling to veteran spinners, or trying to get new people into the hobby?
We really tried to create a line of pens that caters to both new pen spinners and the core pen spinners.
The Axis and Ronin are customizable and can be stylized while the Zero is not customizable and is easier to learn with.QUOTE (InhumanElmo @ May 14 2008, 03:19 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>Ok cool then. Umm will you be producing more models of pens for the more advanced spinners, such as a Pro Line of spinz pens?
Yes, we will be producing more models of SpinZ. However the Axis is designed as an expert pen. As I said we will be updating and improving pens as we need to.
I have to goo for now. I know I have more questions to answer so I will be back on later to do so.
Thanks -

Hearing from Eso's reviews on the SpinZ pens, I think they are pretty bad. Plus, the pens don't look cool either, are you guys going to plan making it look more better or better for spinning? And are you guys going to lower the prices? I think the prices don't match the spinnability. Lastly, are you guys going to make mods similar to the mods others had made? Such as retractable, longer grips(The Ronin's grip looks to short for inifinities) and etc.

are they ever going to be improved upon?
the caps are very brittle every one i have has broken, are they going to be made better any time soon?
are you going to add any more pens to your product line? -
Date: Sat, May 17 2008 02:48:00
I think it'd be better if you decreased the gap from the cap of the axis to the body.
Also, there should be more momentum on the zero if it is intended for newer spinners, because pens that move more easily help them learn.
i don't think the quality of the plastic reflects the price; it seems to break easily compared to pens that cost much less, especially the Zero. -
Date: Sat, May 17 2008 05:27:22
Why does the plastic crack so easily?

I currently buy my pens from stores in Singapore. One such store is "Popular" which I think is the biggest stationery chain in Singapore. It sells toys too though. -

As for more specific places in Europe;
Sweden, France, Poland and Germany are the most vital penspinning countries at the moment. It would be awesome if you could get them out to those four.
edit: as for stores in Sweden that sell pens, "Akademibokhandeln" is the only widespread stationary chain we have. As for Toy store chains, "BR-Leksaker" is the biggest by far. -

Their are alot of opinions about SpinZ. We have designed our pens with Spinners in mind and will continue to improve as new pens come out.
Regarding priceing I can not say anything will change in the near future.
The mods are to customize the pen. We have produced a line of mods to improve the look and performance of the pens.QUOTE (Gunblakes @ May 17 2008, 01:27 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>Why does the plastic crack so easily?

Yes, but people in France don't want that ^^, i never see a french guy want it (but we have a thread about it with 185posts...). The problem is : modz are sell in "toy shop" and not in penshop, and french people see spinz like mr lsc (just money and nothing add...) and review by Eso "confirm" that (in the mind of french spinners)
Questions :
-Will you try to sell your modz in penshop ?
-Why put a Z at the end ? Look like Pen'Z Gear in Japan...
-When the tournament will begin ?

Do you think a better marketing idea would be to sell them in the pen section of stores? At present, it seems like they are being received more as batons that can write as opposed to pens that are good for spinning.
Understated, simple, plain colors might appeal more to older spinners (after all, nobody's going to want to be at work, writing with a pen that's extremely flashy).
Do you plan on making any retractable SpinZ? -
Date: Mon, May 19 2008 20:27:45
This is more of a question for the masses rather than to Spinz08. Do my reviews really reek of negativity? My intent was not to bash on Spinz, but rather to give a fair review based on what I see and feel.

@ SpinZ08: do you encourage people to mod their SpinZ products with other pens? If so, will you include instructions for these on your website? -

"@ SpinZ08: do you encourage people to mod their SpinZ products with other pens? If so, will you include instructions for these on your website?"
It might help them out a little if we already had some mods designed here, since this community is more familiar with the process and the pens needed for good mods.
My question here is if the quantity and/or quality of the materials go up will that equate an increase in price, or did you plan on having to upgrade materials when you decided on those prices to begin with? -

You said earlier that you've worked with pen spinners to develop these pens, is there anyway I could possibly test your next line of pens, or see images? I'd be willing to sign any legally binding documents if need be. Would you be willing to accept video reviews of your products if I sent them in?
Also $10 for a basic pen is kind of a steep price. Would you consider a cheaper version with just a basic pen and no extra parts for like $5~6. I saw your pens in the store and I was tempted to buy one but the price tag is what steered me away. I usually mod my own pens and I can buy the parts to make several pens for less than $10.
Thanks in advance. -
