Regular Pen Discussion / Pentech Spinz - Zero

I know, I'm a noob and my opinions don't count for much just yet, but as I'm the only one here that appears to own a Zero, I'll give my critique here...

1st impression is that it's really thick, like a marker more than a pen. I didn't realize that they came in different colors so I just grabbed one, ended up with a goofy outsert that is s'posed to look like a tuner car. The outsert itself it fairly smooth, but after a couple days use it gets a little wrinkly, and there's a seam that doesn't feel great on the fingers.

The weight is definitely in the center, with noticeably less weight in the ends. The caps are clear plastic and fairly fragile. After my 1st dozen drops there're some cracks in the caps and they're very loose. If I do more than a couple Sonics then they just pop off. The longer caps really help the balance but it's still heavy in the middle. I find it nearly impossible to do a Charge with the short caps and difficult with the longer ones. That might just be because I'm such a noob. The nibs with the grips on them are, IMO, the biggest weak point. They screw into the barrel on either end, but the threads are really wide and the screw part is really short, so every time I drop it one end or the other just plain comes off and rolls across the floor. Since I'm such a noob, I drop all the time so I'm constantly chasing nibs. Given that this is a beginner's pen, this seems to be a fatal flaw to me and I've almost exclusively switched to a BICtory. I figured that an easy fix for that is some teflon tape, but I don't have any so I haven't tried it yet. So, yeah...

I thought so, but I don't see anything. Oh well. Decent review for the lower-end pen.

It doesn't say much for spinz when people prefer 50 cent bictory from a zero. Well bictoryes are a great mod for their price, but I was expecting more from spinz.

    Nice review, btw

@Awesome: it simply says that people like things that cost less and still give adequate performance. Nothing against Spinz pens, but BICtories rock.

Yea I thought SPINZ would be better, but I guess its cuz its a begginer pen or something.

well, wouldn't a Dr. KT be a longer and fatter version of a comssa?

    case closed.

Just got Ronin and Axis for my birthday. Body of the axis is about as thick as a bictory, but the caps are gynormous and heavy. I gotta say in the Zero's defense that it's spinnable, at least more than most unmodded pens, and I was able to learn all the fundamentals on it from scratch with no prior experience. Charge is 10x easier on the ronin and the axis, though. I can even sonic without thumbflap half the time on those. My thought is that zero is a halfway decent starting point, but ronin will be a necessary upgrade about a week later. That is, if you're sticking with spinz. I think I might see an MX in my future...

I know this is a noobish question but are they worth getting? Just for the sake of it..

My opinion of them are that they aren't worth it. Manufactured modded pens will allways have a manufactured feel to them. Besides if you make the pen it makes you appreciate it to a whole new level. And modded pens are yours, no-one else has the exact same one.

then why did you even bother asking? huh.gif

It's all about personal preference, so you just answered your own question...
