Presentation / LED Pens

or glow in the dark, or flashlights, or anything like that

Do you think these look good when spun with the lights off?

I think its kinda cool to throw into a member vid, but I wouldn't suggest ever using it for a battle or collab or anything, its impossible to tell what you're doing so you cant really appreciate it...

Also, my favorite in this "group" of pens would probably be fire mods... my inner pyro loves those things...

Fire > LED > glow in the dark

All look cool when spun in the dark but are purely for entertaining, flashy kind of spinning. In terms of practicality, fire is the most impractical, whereas LED is just annoying to make and glow in the dark is the easiest to work with.

I would love to see Bonkura or Eriror do a combo with led or glow in the dark. With their smoothness and speed, I'm sure it would really look very nice.

  6. Rekkuuzan
    Date: Sat, Sep 15 2007 06:13:20

Even though I've never spun one, I'd like to think LEDs would look better with just the ends lit up (as AzNwAr3oR said) and not the pen's body/barrel itself.

Can't say anything on fire. Haven't seen a video of it.

I prefere LED because is most simply to spin than with a fire mod ^^. Glow in the dark is very cool but many camera don't see it (i love my rsvp mx luminous but my camera no XD)

Most LED-mods imo are a little sloppy(or maybe it's just the camera quality). You don't really see the pen spins, either because the light is so weak or that the light is flashing all the time.
I think LED is nice when you got a good power in the light and a good camera to record it with.
Like this video with Zaazu's LED mod.

  13. Webo Splash
    Date: Sat, Sep 15 2007 17:23:19

LED mods are sexy and stuff, just like any other glow in the dark pen, but the downside is that you cant see shit on what they're doing. If you cant really see the skill of the spinner by the pen he's using like a LED mod, it's pretty worthless.

  14. kasra12321
    Date: Sun, Sep 16 2007 00:15:54

I used a Glow in the dark comssa in Webo's newbie collab. They look shitty on camera but when you're actually spinning it in the dark, it looks really tight. I'll spin the glow in the dark again in another collab.

THANK YOU WEBO! I totally agree. I remember Kasra's video. I was just too hard to tell what he was doing!

I agree with UnEmploymentDude and Webo Splash, cause when you're spinning in the dark all you see is a pen making circles in the air, You can't see the hand of the spinner. And if yo can't see the hand of the guy you can't really tell what tricks he's doing, losing the level of difficulty needed to impress others.

  17. PoisonedV
    Date: Wed, Sep 19 2007 02:04:14

Same with webo, I think you cant see what shit theyre doing. however this can be remedied better if...

FULL BODY GLOW. the whole pen, therefore the dark parts are where the fingers are and your mind will better fill in the gaps

    2. twist on, twist off, not button, which makes it unsmooth (the main reason why I havent made a LED mod, I don't know how to do twisting)

    3. use a dimmer, so its not pitch black but still dark. a vague outline of the hand but the pen is still bright

    Date: Wed, Sep 19 2007 03:33:15

Uh, i think some of you guys are missing the point. LED mods are supposed to be spun in the dark simply because they look cool. It exaggerates the spinning effect you get from spinning a pen in daylight and thats about it. They're not meant to be spun in battles and they're not meant to be spun in ideal conditions where the viewers can analyze the skill of your spinning. They are just meant to look cool which is maximized by spinning it in the dark. When you see someone spinning an LED pen in the dark the first thing you say should not be "wow, that spinner has extremely high skill"...you're supposed to be saying "Damn, that looks sweet"....and then maybe you can appreciate the skill of the spinner after. If the spinner wanted you to appreciate his/her spinning they would have released a video using a normal pen in daylight....but that's just my opinion.

Okay.... I am new here and have not found it (Links to build LED / Glow in the Dark-Mods). But I LUV everything enlightning the dark.

You know where to find instructions for building glowing RSVPs or LED RSVPs like in the linked Vidz?

Man, I could try it with phosphourus colours inside the pens, but it might change the behaviour and weight because of the moving liquid. or a thick phosphorous paste, but this wolud kill the chance of a glowing effect like from an LED....

Can anyone give me a tip / link/ where or how to mod by myself / buy?
Quench my thirst for glowing stuff! Plz!

I know it`s of the topic, please excuse me happy.gif

Does anyone knowhow the Luminous mod on the PDS store is made? I know its something added tot he inside that glows.... lol

I was thinking of getting some of those glow-in-the-dark stars that kids put on ceilings in their rooms and blend it int a dust and fill the barrel with that....... ohmy.gif

  27. -JC-
    Date: Fri, Jan 4 2008 00:20:37

maybe the ones in the pds store are just those glowsticks that you crack and then it glows for awhile and then dies out...
but led pens would definitely be fun to spin with...although it's gonna be kinda hard for me cause i can't spin if i can't see my hand sleep.gif''

but people, just get a long glow in the dark sticker and use that as an outsert >.<
looking at strong lights in the dark (led pens) isn't good for your eyes anyway

  28. Look Into the Sun
    Date: Fri, Jan 4 2008 01:21:55

The luminous CS on pds and penwish seems to be permanent glow. I have one. Just put it next to a bright light for about 20 seconds and it'll glow brightly for quite a while (not sure how long as I usually stop spinning it after 30 minutes or so).

  29. -JC-
    Date: Fri, Jan 4 2008 01:30:06

isn't that just like a glow in the dark thing--since glow in the dark stickers need to be put by a light source after they stop glowing in order to glow again..?
or is it clearly not a sticker? is the glow stuff inside? if so, what kind of barrel is it? plastic like a rsvp? and what does the CS stand for o.0..?

Edit: oh, it is plastic, just checked ont he pds site and it's not a sticker

My only question is where would you find batteries that would fit in a LED mod. I have button batteries, but they're all too big for the caps and body I have. That's not to mention somesort of wiring involved, though I see how it might work if I tried.

  31. Picool
    Date: Fri, Jan 18 2008 11:21:03

    It's mini button batterie ^^

For the luminous cs, it's a glow cream (because paint don't stick in the barrel), but the LSC picture for this mod is a fake (you can't make the mod shinning like that without special light)

    hey everyone...new to forum.

I have been wondering how to get LEDs into pens for spinning because it is just cool. Good points have been made, like being able to see the hand or just what the person is doing is more important to some. But even then, the real point of a lighted pen is for it to look cool spinning around in dark or low light. It's more about flash than technique.

That said I think the best lit pen would be one with a lit body, as mentioned earlier and definitely I would prefer non-strobing LEDs for video and photo purposes. it would be great if it were possible to have the trail effect like the Mercury Signature Sales Event television ad for the Mariner. (MARINER #3)

  35. nolan
    Date: Thu, Mar 20 2008 13:11:37

That trail effect is from editing. The only way to get that, is spin as fast or faster then Dongza, or speed up your clip, which isnt very popular in the Pen Spinning world.

I think the best way of making led pen mechanism is:

-SMD Diode or programmable led rgb diode
    -3 small baterries
    -2 wires

Using SMD diode, you can fit mechanism everywhere, and connect it for example with clicker mechanism, backcap, tip...
