Philosophy / Visually Appealing Pens?

Just kind of a random thought here... are people more often to spin a pen that they find more visually appealing (colors, insert designs, etc. ). It's kinda weird actually, once I changed my MX's Back half from Green to Light Green, I've been spinning it more. I think it looks better so would this maybe a drive for spinning it? I mean sure I love to spin my F-3000 but visual wise its kinda bland. So does having a more visually applealing pen make you want to spin it? BTW I'm not talking about personal preferances weight or length wise, just visual.

I touched on this topic in Pen Mod Aesthetics and Design, there are a few more related replies in the thread from others.

Short answer: I spin mods that are both visually appealing and useful to me.

    Gotta agree with you here...

I looked at the links for inserts a few days ago. Never have I been so motivated to rip apart and mod my pens. All because I found a nice insert XD

Everyone likes to see flashy stuff! Like the spinning effect different colored grips give, etc. Also, a pen with a nice insert looks appealing to non-spinners too, so they wont go wtf when you pull out your MSXA or what not.happy.gif

I now for sure I want to spin something more appealing, but sometimes, I spin a pen for it's performance and wish it was cooler looking sad.gif

i think having an appealing pen motivates me to spin. i think its because its like getting a new toy, you have to use it because its new and looks cool.

i love using my good looking pens. in a way it kind of attracts more attention when spinning a brightly coloured pen that looks good then a simple all black comssa or somthing like that.

    i disagree with Jfisher.
all black pen = stealth = sweet

I spin pens not for the speed, difficulty of the tricks... I enjoy the way the grips from a comssa just goes spinning around. That's why I prefer visually appealing mods a LITTLE more over useful mods tongue.gif

i think that the way the pen looks does affect it because i use my msxa more then all my other pens tht i have cause i think it looks bttr

Studies show the the colors red, blue, and yellow attract the most attention to the human eye. We make mods visually appealing so people will notice the pen.

Um this post isn't really constructive, of course Red, Blue, and Yellow attract the most attention of the eye, they are the three primary colors. And the other part is that I wasn't talking about other people I'm talking to you the spinner, its more of a question of "Would you rather?".

Pens themselves are not visually appealing. It is the spinning of the pen itself that will make the pen have 'visual appeal'. Consequently, I believe the pen used, so long as it is not difficult to see due to poor contrast, is of little importance.

A WISE MAN ONCE TOLD ME.... BRIGHT ENDS > DARK ENDS

Dark ends r kool but bright ends show crazy stuff while spinning happy.gif

It's all about the contrast, usually. I spin a white comssa, I try to find a dark background so that it has more visual appeal than spinning over a lighter background.

I like the spinning effect of all white pens... looks just cool IMO P:
but I agree that making a pen look good will make you want to spin it... I can't wait to make an Ayatori mod, so god damn sexy.

I've never heard of anyone picking up chicks with their pen spinning skillz.

I think all of us would spin a nicer-looking pen if the PS difficulty level did not increase noticeably, so this thread will be one-sided. A more interesting question would be whether people would sacrifice utility (balance, weight, etc.) for aesthetics.

Visually appealing for ME is a pen that looks like a normal pen. Like it's not 2000 cm long. A v.1, v2, and an MX seem appealing. And the colors for me, I prefer, well normal pen colors. Navy, reddish maroon, black, etc. They seem more "penn style" rather than the bright colors.

I thought pen spinning pens were cool so i made them with no intention to spin then like a month later i started. so visually appealing pens are the reason i started spinning

I spin some of my pens because they look cool. I spin these two the most because I love the way they look the most.

Yeah, maybe you know, If I had a really cool mod, I'd be proud to spin well my niiiice mod. But now I have an unsharpened pecil, a little dull, and I just work on technical difficlty. So maby, yes, the sex-appeal of a pen is influencing the way we spin.

    Date: Thu, Jul 17 2008 08:31:17

Yeah, I totally agree. I also find better looking pens to be more fun to spin with.
I made an all-white mod of my own, and I've been spinning like crazy!

I perfer transparent pens with inserts over white pens though.

I totally agree with you. I love how when the tips kinda sparkle when light is upon it.
I've only got one pen mod to spin with and its not exactly the best looking pen but it does the job.
I would however spin a good looking pen mod rather than a good mod.

any pen made by: tek and k4s are visually appealing pens. especially tek's mx^2 <3

The MX is a good example of a nice-looking pen, but not as good to spin with as compared with other mods. I mean, to laymen, single-sided mods look more like pens.

I spin with my twina art mod.....
