Welcome to my tutorial on probably my most successful mod to date. I am not sure if I will even be able to top this one! I was even able to make this mod in two versions, capped and retractable. I love this mod because it fills the 5 main criteria that i look for when making a mod:
    1) It is 21 cm
    2) It has lots of grips. Not too many (like the GSXA), but it has just the right amount
    3) It is completely balanced
    4) It is writable
    5) It is stable, looks good, spins well and has a large amount of customizability (if that is even a word 0.o)

    ~

[Name of Pen Modification]: G2-CTE Vortex

    [Center of Gravity]: COG=COP

[Length in Centimeters]: 21cm (is the prefered length, but can be adjusted to your personal liking)

[Weight in relative terms]: G2-CTE Vortex
[Style]: Double sided/Writes out of one side

[Estimated cost]: $12+ USD (depending on how many G2 grips you use)

    ~

    [Pens Needed]:

    -[Pilot G2] (1x)

    -[ColorTwin/KeiTyo/Miffy&Melanie/SuperTip sign pen] (1x)

    -[Uniball Signo] (2x) (tips only)

-[Bic Round Stic) (1x) (inktube only)

-[Pilot G2 Grip] (2x for the one in the tutorial, 4x for the all black one and 6x for the one with three rings on each side)

-[Extra Grip Sections] (2x) (one signo grip cut in half or 2 of the thread sectinos on a G2 grip work best)

*the grips can be anything you would like them to be. G2 grips are just prefered and fit best with this mod

    ~

    [Materials]:

    -[Cutting Tool]

    -[Pliers]

    -[Tissue]

    -[Celophane Tape]

    -[Teflon Tape]

    -[Sand Paper]

    ~

    [The Mod]:

*This version of the mod is alot more expensive and uses Sailor Gel grips and Airfit grips as well.

    [Tutorial]:

    Spoiler:

    PLEASE READ BEFORE WATCHING:

This video depicts how I make a G2-CTE Vortex. I make mine with 6 G2 grips. That DOES NOT mean that you have to do that too. You can use whatever grips you want in whatever way you want. DO NOT leave a comment flaming the excessive amount of G2's. Thank you.

*the song was supposed to be Good Riddance (Time of your Life) by Greenday, but Youtube's copyright issues forced me to change it to Fur Elise by Beethoven. Thats why it doesnt quite fit the length of the video.

If you have any questions about this tutorial, please feel free to leave a comment asking your question/questions.

    Spoiler:

    (click instructions for picture)

    1)Gather your materials.

2)Dismantle the G2 as shown in the picture. Keep what is circled and discard or put away what is crossed out.

3)Cut the front G2 piece, the clickerpice, and the ColorTwin/KeiTyo/Miffy&Melanie/SuperTip sign pen piece as shown in the picture.

4)Take the second part of the clicker and cut/sand down the ridges on its outside. then wrap the cut/sanded piece with some celophane tape; enough for the Signo tip to screw on.

5)Assemble the pieces as such. Make sure that the Signo tip is screwed on very tightly.

6)Using a combination of celophane tape and telfon tape. secure the Signo tip/G2 clicker pieces to the G2 body. Also use the tapes to make the back part as cylindrical as possible up to the signo tip.

7)Using any means necessary, get one of the G2 grips on the barrel, up until the point at which you start to see tape. Set this piece aside for now.

8)Take the front G2 piece and sand down the lump near the front so that it is flush with the rest of the piece. Then wrap 2 sections of tape around the body even with the ridge near the threads. Next, screw on the Signo tip as tightly as possible onto the front.

9)Using a combination of celophane tape and teflon tape, make the rest of the body as cylindrical as possible up to the Signo tip. Use the picture as reference.

10)Repeat step 7 with the grip on this piece. Try to make these two pieces look as similar as possible.

11)Line up the two pieces and cut where shown. DO NOT cut the threads. Only cut the piece that is being pointed at.

12)You should now have what is shown in the picture.

13)Slide on your extra grips onto the remaining parts of the pieces. Try to keep them as symetrical as possible. Make it so that only a tiny bit of grip hangs off the edges of the pieces as shown in the picture.

14)Insert the Bic Round Stic inktube into the front of the cut ColorTwin/KeiTyo/Miffy&Melanie/SuperTip sign pen.

15)Shove in some tissue paper inside the barrel to reduce rattling.

16)Put the pieces together as shown in the picture. Before hand, you may choose to apply an outsert. If not, continue putting the pieces together. If you decide otherwise later, then just take them appart and apply it then.

    17)You have just made a G2-CTE Vortex!

    Spoiler:
This step is completely optional, yet is pretty cool to do. The only extra parts needed for this step is one of the small clicker pieces, an inktube, a spring, a way of holding the spring to the inktube, and a way to extend the inktube.

*Each of the steps 1-7 correspond to the picture's 1-7

    ~

    http://i274.photobucket.com/albums/jj256/G.../P1010006-3.jpg

    ~

1 - Trim off the little bit of the g2 piece juuuuust so that there is a little bit of room between the vertical lines and the top of the piece.

2 - Wrap tape around the part of the piece that is thinner than the rest and then make the thickness be uniform throughout the whole piece.

3 - On the small clicker piece, cut a bit of the rod off so it looks like what is shown in the picture.

4 - The signo tip should already have the original clicker piece screwed in it. By measuring how long u need it to be (using the other piece as reference) cut the g2 main clicker piece to the correct length inorder to get the length correct. This is probably the most vital, yet hardest step.

5 - Cut off the little ridges on the clicker piece that is screwed into the signo tip so that it can click fully.

6 - Make sure that the signo tip can go all the way down and click. Check this constantly.

7 - Measure once again to figure out how much to trim off of the bottom to get the length correct, according to the other piece.

    ~

As for the extended inktube portion of this, this is what i used, and this is what i suggest you do:

    http://i274.photobucket.com/albums/jj256/G.../p1010008-5.jpg

*the comssa cartriage must be emptied and cut to the correct length before put in the mod

    [Q/A]:

    This mod can write, right?

Of course. Just take off the "cap" that has the inktube tip inside of it and write away.

    How heavy is this?

I would have to say that it has the same amount of momentum as a Dr. KT

How much spinning room is that?

Same amount as a Dr. KT

    How customizable is it?

You can either have a black or a white body, with any color Bic Round Sic ink, and any color G2 grips that you can find.

What would be a good reason for me to make this?

If you live in the US and you are a heavy pen spinner, and you have no way of getting a Dr. KT, this mod could be a good sub. You can easily find G2\'s, Signo\'s and SuperTips here.

So if a pen isn't as heavy as a KT it's not heavy enough? I consider signos heavy.

  16. Guitrum
    Date: Sat, Jun 7 2008 19:26:49

the reason why this one is so heavy, is cuz the ends are a combination of grips, G2 pieces, tape, teflon, clicker parts AND signo tips. and those are mounted onto a somewhat hollow body. so all that put together creates alot of momentum.

So I now have one of these mods. The barrel feel with an outsert is particularly nice. It's like a cross between an RSVP body and a Comssa body in that it's grippy, but not too much so.

While it may weigh about the same as a Dr. KT, I would not recommend it as a KT substitute. It doesn't, in my opinion, spin like it. The KT has all of its weight concentrated at the end of the cap, whereas this mod has its weight distributed amongst the outer thirds of the body. However, it's still a nice mod to spin, and the bonus of it being writable makes it a great mod for me. Plus, it doesn't draw the ire that KTs do...

    ...yet.

Nevertheless, I'm proud to say that I own one of the originals:

I have finally actually the used mod, on request of Guitrum nagging me like no tomorrow. The weight seems a bit more for the mod, almost comparable to a Dr. Kt. I'm not quite sure if this mod is worth the money, you could probably get the Dr. Kt for just about the same amount. That and i've never been a fan of the G2 grips as the primary grips(replaced my GA grips with rsvp impulse grips) Overall, not bad, but I'd try to find a cheaper way to make it, the quality doesnt reflect it as much. Yet again, nothing against Guitrum, the mod isn't worth the money imo.

XD thanks for the post imatt!!!!

but the mod costs about 12 dollars, whereas a KT is 25-30, so idk what the monetary issue is there....

well, if you make the mod with 4 g2 grips, that gets pricy, but the cheapest way is to use 2 g2 grips and 1 signo grip cut in half. thats the 12 dollars.

    I prefer authenticity...

    KT is only worth 20$

    2 Keityo/colortwin/miffy = 4-5$ Max
    2 dr. grip tips= 10$
    2-3 sailors = 5$

XD yea, the KT has rights over two strips, so i thought why not three? the only bad part, is that it requires six G2 grips for that style..... for me thats not a problem, but for some people out there, they hate that. but you can still make the mod with two G2 grips!

and yes, the links arent working.... again.... ill fix them when im not busy, thanks for the warning smile.gif

you could if you would like to, but the diameter of the pen should be greater than that of the grips so they should just tightly fit on, but its alright if you want to superglue them on.

its more or less personal preference

I have been looking for a new mod I can write with, and here it is. Now i just need to get the parts... Maybe enough to make 2... I'm new at this and the retractable portion looks a bit tricky.

Wow.. I jsut amde it, it looks sexy, AND it spins good, a lot of work but all american peices and this is quite amazing.... A clearer tutorial wud help tho =]

btw my hands are quite sore but it seems comparable to the kt, the hardest part is the grips it takes a lot of strengh and wearing heavy duty gloves helped a lot...

Differences in spinnability compared to original KT

KT, is more end heavy, different kind of momentum, this mod is more evenly distributed in weight.

Kt is much simpler, your hands don't burn after you make the kt > - <

    Kt "feels" heavier

Kt has a smoother spin but the caps make it feel rough sometimes, this mod is very smooth, hawt, and very good spinability, not a very good KT spin sub but a wonderful mod.

I would best compare it's spinability to a triple tipped keityo comssa mod....

This is a reallyx100 good mod.

Making it...getting the grips on is hard, BUT if you use Guitrum's method of getting grips onto thick barrels it helps A LOT. I tried both...without Guitrum's way took me more than 10 minutes to get the grip on. With his method with the inktube took me only a couple of minutes...plus you don't end up with sore fingers...Oh and Guitrum, if you hold onto the grip tightly and use pliers and pull hard, there's no need to bite the inktube to get it out from underneath the grip.

The mod spins really well and if you make it with black and white grips, you'll have a nice spinning effect. However, the mod is lighter than a Dr. KT.

    Anyways, great job Guitrum!

for step 5, when you're assembling the back g2 part... you're using the G2 clicker parts right? Whats the point of the longer part? Also, am i ssupposed to sand it so it fits inside the tube? Cuz otherwise it wont fit into the top part... which i think is wrong.

and is it just me and my weird signos or is the G2 clicker part too big for the signo tip?

uhmmm the large clicker piece is cut and put inside the g2 body so that the small clicker piece, when screwed into the tip can fit inside it.

the clicker piece has to have the ridges clipped off and then tape wrapped around that.

Supertips are everywhere in the US. Look at the art section of your local Wal-Mart or Target.

i dont really recommend using a supertip.... but either sand or glue whatever you have to

I have gotten this mod to work with a supertip... sanded down the inside of the g2 and outside of the supertip where they connect and it works fine.

looks sexy when it spins too. did the majority black with 2 red stripes and it's pretty when it spins. It's lighter then most of my mods so I'll be using it to learn tricks. <3
