What other pens act like Dr KT? (except for KTSG). If you dont know what I mean, I mean having the same characteristics, weight, evenly balanced, etc.

I think that is Namae Pen Mod: http://penspinning.forall.pl/pspedia/index...e=Namae_Pen_Mod and SocomGel http://penspinning.forall.pl/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=678

Namae Pen Mod weighs about the same as a Mettalic Comssa without Mini Dr. Grip tips.

Just some info for reference: keityo barrels are slightly larger than comssa bodies. Supertip markers, laurentien twin tips and roseart double ended are all used as white body substitues for dr.KT so if you have access to those you can throw on some heavy metal tips and they should spin with some similarity. Syn-nextex looks to have similar qualities of a dr.KT. You can even make a comssa spin like a dr.KT if you have the right metal tips.

edit: Clear body laurentien markers can be used as a substitute clear body dr.KT although i have come out with a simple clear body dr.KT tutorial (link in my signature).

KT/CT/M&M caps will fit on laurentien bodies.

(CLEAR LAURENTIEN WITH CT CAPS & DR.GRIP TIPS)

Another substitute are zig markers often found in art stores. They are very middle heavy though, even after you remove the ink. All you need is 1 zig marker (or 2 if you want to interchange cap colors) and then just put on dr.grip tips and hold them on with grips (any grips will do, even sailor gel). No need for KT/CT/M&M cap, you can just use zig caps.

the "mod" that i'm using right now is probably somewhat like a dr. kt, though i've never owned a kt.

this pen is pretty heavy, still writes with both ends under the caps, and is really easy to assemble if you manage to find the parts .

it's basically a vellum marker with two random metal tips that fit inside the cap with no glue-ing/taping required, as well as any random grips that you can get to fit on each end.

i got my vellum at target, though i think someone that came from an art store just dropped it on the ground because target didn't have it registered in their system thing, so i got it for 99 cents lol

    here's a pic:

I didn't want to spend 20$+ on a mod, so after getting the keityo sign pens I found that the metal tips from (I can't really remember the name, but it was basically a pilot g3 retractable, but with a metal tip, thicker solid color body, and regular g3 grip). They were 3.99$ at my school bookstore (half the cost of a Dr. Grip biggrin.gif ).

The tips have a kind of lip that slides right into the keityo black cap. They were loose, so i wrapped the hidden part with some teflon plumbing tape and now they hold in snuggly and I don't have to rely on a grip to hold them in place.

It weights a little less than a real Dr. KT, but it's not enough to make too much of a difference.

(sorry for posting on an old thread, I just wanted to share an alternative to the expensive Dr. Grip tips)

1 Dr grip tip is about 8 HGG tips

Yeah. The tips I used in the pics above are slightly lighter than Dr. Grip tips.

It's a small difference in weight (that doesn't bother me) and this way you don't need a grip holding on the tip; it slides right in and is kept tight by some teflon tape. happy.gif

not a bad alternative, If i had a choice between G2EX tips and American Dr. Grip, I'd take the American Dr. Grip and fill it with a tincy bit of teflon to get the same feel of the japanese Dr. Grip. If you were making like a Keityo MX, i have..just havent really released a tutorial(a little hard to make), but that would maybe work if you used that as a tip and put signos in the back cap to make up the difference.

Does the SocomGel spin well? Compared to the KT?

The SocomGel is a lighter than the KT, but I think it spins kinda like the KT because the weight is at the ends of the cap.

Is it significantly lighter? Like a metal comssa?

The SocomGel is heavier than the metallic comssa. I think it weighs about the same or more than an MSXA.

i have these tips from a random mechanical pencil that are almost identical to dr. grip tips in size, but they are made out of really thin metal so they're significantly light

i was thinking, maybe i can melt some cobalt or glue some fishing weights into them or something to make them a similar weight, has anyone tried this or think it will work well?

also, are there any sailor grip substitutes?

Dr ComSSa is a buster act alike, it's the same weight(maybe a hair lighter) and the same length.
