Philosophy / Wanting to be like another spinner
Why?

Occasionally, I hear from time to time that some spinners are talking about wanting to be exactly like a renown spinner such as Eriror, Bonkura, Banz, Uriel, etc. Now, when you say that, do you want to adopt their style or everything?
In my opinion, I would prefer to just be "inspired" by the greats, and create my own style. Many spinners seem to be so lazy that they would bite off a great spinner and totally mimic them. I'm not saying it's a total bad thing, buht it would seem better if they see other spinners as a guideline, and help them create their own style that can make each individual special in the pen spinning world.
I think this applies to the Philosophy thread topic. Buht if it isnt', the admin/mod can move this to a section that would make this fit most.
I also want to know if anyone else notices other spinners wanting to attain a style, and wuht kind? There are many questions to this topic, so discuss. -

If you try to be like another person, you'll never be as good as them. If you try to copy Bonkura, even if you spin just as good as him no one will pay much attention, its been done before. If you want to as good as a famous spinner, you have to develop your own style. When you copy someone you'll always be one step behind them.
Taking mini combos or even trying to do one or two combos in a popular style might help you expand you skills, but that alone cannot bring much improvement if you aren't bringing in your own influences. -

Exactly. Like, why would you want to be An Eriror-like spinner, when you can be [for me] Webo Splash? I dont understand many pen spinners when they want to copy, buhh not inspire.

People have always wanted to be like the greats, and it is sometimes easier to copy something than to create your own style. Only way to reach the true potential of ur spinning is to spin ur own way, not somebody else's.

Yea like you kind of half to have a penspinner you want to be like, but you cant do the exact same things you have to have your own style.

arguing semantics.
Wanting to be like a spinner could simply mean "wanting to be as good as". Your argument would be stronger if you talked about ppl "wanting to imitate" and specifically saying imitate
oh and some ppl like DaThroat started off imitating but branched off into their own stuff -

I think imitators might even (incorrectly) call themselves emulators, but covering something up doesn't make it disappear.

"Eriror Wannabe" sounds like imitate to me. Check Xero's headline thing.

i dunno again its hard to tell
I guess we have to ask Xero eh?
to me it sounds more like, admiration for Eriror and his style of pen spinning. -

It is strange to imitate another spinner to be anti-maisntream, seriously, it is like the solution of ease, instead of creating our own unique style, we imitate another's unique style...

isn't it like impossible to copy someones style perfectly? (almost)
i always thought of someones style as something like their hand writing. and when someone copys 'style' their just tryinig to 'trace' copy' the other persons style?
so instead of copying completly, your mimicing. rite? -

I don't really go for 'imitating' someone's style, but I do get Inspiration off them.
Inspiration off other spinners motivates me to create my own style. -

When I just started spinning, my fream was to spin EXACTLY like Eriror.
after sometime I realized I don't really want to spin exactly like him,,, but I just really like his style. so I get inspiration from him, and maybe one day people could say I have a similar style or something, but I wish to have my own style, maybe even combine multiple spinners style into my style or something... I hope you understood P:" -

Haha same as me, I loved his fast and smooth style. But like others I stopped because there is no point being something you aren't. Spin your own style and receive the recognition for it. -

Well....when you imitate a style....you never get the exact style you wanted.....
Like DaThroat...who imitates bonkura...he's developed a style similar to bonkura but still unique...
My word of advice....spin the style you like most, then you would enjoy spinning more
