UPSB v3

Presentation / Do you watch your hand when you spin?

  1. CudOfCow
    Date: Thu, Jun 26 2008 16:50:47

Most of the time when i spin, i do better when i'm not staring directly at my hand. I like to spin and sort of look off to the side, rather than concentrate on every movement of my hand. I feel like i mess up more when i dont just let the pen do its thing. Do you do this too?

I also notice that i dont look at my fingers when i type. I type at about 60-70wpm and if i look at my fingers it messes me all up. A lot of times when i'm sitting at my desk, i spin to the side and watch my computer screen and sorta keep the pen in view but i'm not looking directly at it.

    Thoughts?

    +1 Mats

The same goes for me I watch the pen. but when I'm just bored and freestyling watching the pen usually isn't necessary.

If i'm filming then i look at the screen to make sure its in the right position.
When im no filming, i always look at my hand.

  14. Look Into the Sun

I look at both my fingers and pen, mostly my fingers though.

It's hard to do cont tricks and spin tricks without looking.

  15. mhig
    Date: Fri, Jun 27 2008 20:21:46

lol i always look at my hand laugh.gif since there's no screen to look at or anything else for me to look at i just look at my fingers (which is pretty freaky when you actually realize how your fingers are moving)
for continuous tricks i would look at both the pen and the hand, since you need to make sure you get the right spot on the pen for example the backaround, you need to make sure it's in place again in order to do another one

i think it kinda depends on the perspective of an individual... like me I prefer to look at mirror while PSing... it makes me spin better i guess.... so i think that's how things go when it comes to this matter

Also when I spin in front of a mirror (you know see if your new pen looks cool laugh.gif ), I tend to drop it alot for some reason...

I watch the pen. After a while my fingers starts to look odd.

  66. Tomex

    that depends.
when i watch tv, sit in front of my pc, while watiching forums, etc. i dont look at my hands.
When im trying to bring my style/spinning/tricks up, i watch at my hand, and try to make my moves better.

I look and don't look for both passive and active spinning. There are certain assumptions and consequences in sticking and getting habituated to one way of practice for long periods of time. I feel each dimension is a tool, which is optimal at certain times, depending on your skill level, mood/where the mind's at. By alternating looking/looking partially/looking away, it can broaden your understanding and control of your performance by breaking out of the trap- which can in turn, help reason for the lack of control. It can be simplified to: oh i do much better when i'm not looking- yes... true, but there is more to it... I'll stop talking now...

  82. Radiance

if i'm not looking at my hand, i'm most likely doing something really easy such as fingerpass, continuous TA, tornado, harmonic, etc. This helps to get simple things really smooth.

When i'm looking at my hand, i actually concentrate on what i'm doing. I would also be practicing harder tricks/combos.

  83. Metalm3
    Date: Sat, May 2 2009 04:50:54

My hands react a few times faster than my eyes. So practically, if I look at my hands while typing, I'll end up typing much much slower cos my attention would be on my keyboard and hands. I can't really focus on one cos both of them are just too close. Lol.

I ordinarily don't look at all when I spin 1P1H, and use my peripherals (how else would I do it?) with 2P2H. I can spin blindfolded with my left, but not my right. Now to learn blindfold aerials... o.0.o
