Anyone know good ways to add weight to a tombow mod without just using a massive amount of grip???

Use some tiny metal screws in the cap held in place by a little bit of scrunched up paper so they dont make noise.

use Signo tips in the caps. .

    You're gonna rape a Tombow this badly by adding weights to it? ;__;

Seriously, the Tombow is a light mod, please live with it?

No Sfsr!!! Or you can add solder to it. It shouldnt melt the plastic but it'll mold to the cap shape.

@Sfsr: A Tombow Mod is only light if you rip out the insides. shakeshead.gif
Just add another large cap to the back and add grips, it's plenty heavy. I don't know why you'd want to add more weight than that.

Fishing weights would work too i guess.

Why would you want to take out the insides to make it lighter, then try to find a way to make it heavier... unsure.gif
/me puts shame on everyone who has ever taken out the insides

On an off-topic note: I've got Tombow's for trade if anyone wants them.

the special thing about a tombow is, that it is light but you can spin it very smoothly and it has got much momentum even if you rip out the insides ^^

so just stop spinning your dr.kts and uber heavy mods for about 2 weeks and you'll see that you don't have to add weight smile.gif

and yeah, if you don't remove the ink the pen spins ...hmm... kind of strange... so I agree with sfsr

No you're not, then it won't able to write.

@patrick: oddly enough, a Tombow mod without the insides feels awful to me. The weight on the ends makes the body bend alot in the middle when spinning. Keeping the ink tube inside keeps the mod rigid and keeps an overall solid feeling to it.

  14. rodi
    Date: Wed, Sep 19 2007 19:04:48

the Wannabe Tombow Swifter mod does have the ink in the middle removed, but its not required and its all personal preference depending on the type of pens the spinner prefers

Why'd anyone wanna keep the ink?

It'd leak after abit of spinning...Besides,Tombow has LOTS of momentum while keeping a light weight, and is great

Don't do anything to the original Swifter Tombow Mod!It's perfect as it is...The only pen I've been spinning for 2 months now mellow.gif

  16. sketching
    Date: Fri, Sep 21 2007 17:19:02

You keep the ink because a double-capped Tombow is a dead simple mod, just like the Comssa mod: double-cap a pen and add grips. You're all done and ready to spin.

The Tombow ABT ink doesn't leak. Again, what the hell are you people doing to your pens?! I've been using the same Tombow Mod, spinning it off and on for the last 2 years, no leaking whatsoever.

From the Tombow mod article in the wiki:

    1. Buy 2 Tombow ABT markers
    2. Remove the large cap from one of the markers
    3. Place the large cap on the smaller cap of the other pen
    4. Add grips to your liking

Im using the Profile's grip. Do i have to cut them into pieces to fit it over the caps? The caps are pretty big.

  22. sketching
    Date: Sun, Nov 4 2007 00:14:21

You add however many sections you want. I filled the entire skinnier section of each cap with grips. Only the wider, bottom part is uncovered.

  23. vince1234
    Date: Sun, Nov 4 2007 03:22:50

how far can u stretch the profile grip. im having such a hard time to get the whole thing half way through the cap. do you cut the grips?

  24. sketching
    Date: Sun, Nov 4 2007 03:46:51

Yeah, you'll need more than one grip to cover the entire area. I usually use multiple colors, so I cut a lot of grips. biggrin.gif

Profile grips only have 11 sections including the larger one at the bottom. Currently, my Tombow mod has 13 sections of Profile grip over each cap.

  25. Sfsr
    Date: Sun, Nov 4 2007 12:07:48

That's sick o_O I used to have 5 sections on mine, I'll put some extra sections on my new one though..

Sketching, could you rename this thread and make it the "official Tombow thread"? Maybe add a link to the tombow article in the wiki in the main post or something...

Thus removing the actual "pen" factor to it, making it a plastic stick? biggrin.gif

  28. sketching
    Date: Wed, Nov 7 2007 17:56:18

Yeah, but it would still be a "pen mod" since there was a pen that was modded. I, personally, no longer care if a pen mod can write. If you can spin it, cool.

You're supposed to blindly follow everything I say, noob >__> ;DDD

Actually, I didn't know about how the "other" version was made untill you linked to the Wiki article, sketching. I knew SubParSpinner also spun some kind of Tombow mod; but without a clue as to how it was made.

  30. sketching
    Date: Wed, Nov 7 2007 21:52:37

Since SubPar made it, it makes sense to have kept the weight to it, he has big ol' hands so the long mod looks quite normal when he spins it. biggrin.gif

That was the first Tombow mod that I had ever heard about, I only heard about the 'Swifter-based" version when he and Yiep started arguing about it in a UCPSB thread. tongue.gif I have since cleaned out that thread to keep it on-topic, it wasn't a very interesting argument anyway. rolleyes.gif

I have since cleaned out my Tombow mod of the insides to try out the "Swifter-based" version, the weight is okay when the caps are covered in Profile grips, but the overall size is still too big for my hands.

Some one asked me what my personal tombow mod was so i decided to make a tutorial. This is my favorite mod, i have not spun a pen that i can spin better than this pen. THIS IS NOT A NEW MOD, THIS IS A TOMBOW MOD VARIATION.

Weight: comssa metallic < *Tombow Mod* < Dr. KT
    Length: 22.5 cm
    COG: COP

    PENS NEEDED:
    Tombow x2
    Signo tip x2
    Profile and Sailor grip

    TUTORIAL

    1. Take out the ink tips from both sides of 1 tombow markers. Take off the back plug and remove ink inside. Leave the little cap off and double-cap the pen with 2 big caps.

    2. Super glue a signo tip in each of the big caps. (this is the only way i know to keep them in)

    3. Grip the caps accordingly: 2 profile>3 sailor>1 profile>2 sailor>1 profile>2 sailor>1 profile>2 sailor>1 profile>4 sailor

Hope you guys like it as much as i do!

The Tombow I spin has a barrel that's been cut by 1cm to not make it awfully long, this has to be a monster to spin. Probably more overkill than a Dr KT, even though you say it's lighter?

Yeah it do. Seems like a waste of a good pen. These arent the cheapest things either, about 3.75 bucks for me to get 1. I put together an empty one and had to throw out that barrel in favor of the heavier one. I'd rather spin an unmodded tombow than one with no weight.
