I was thinking that if one of you had access to blue screen technology that you could put on some thin blue gloves and try spinning on a desk or something and then you could make your hand disappear while the pen is spinning. Although there would be the problem that any time the pen goes behind you hand it would disappear as well, but that wouldn't be too bad with the right camera angle. Anyway, someone let me know if they have that kind of capability because that would make for an awesome video. biggrin.gif

BTW, a fingerpass would probably look amazing.

Don't blue screens only work if the screen is still? So you wouldn't be able to do it with blue gloves cuz your hand is moving.

Yeah, doing so really gives a nice effect. There was some spinner(Swedish one I think) that spun with black gloves on a black background. You didn't realize that he was leading the pen with the other hand until a little bit in to the movie when he started to do crazy stuff.
A blue screen would be even better I think, but kinda hard to get? Don't really know how the blue background works and how you make it.
Imagine bonkuras iSonics with that effect tongue.gif

    Lolxz.

It's called chroma keying. Ill try it out, I have a sort of working green screen....

Ok, I just thought about it some more, and it would work if the background was a single color. That way you just use the blue screen technology to turn your hands the same color as the background.

Except you might as well not even use blue screen and just paint your gloves the right color instead. tongue.gif

Sounds like a pretty good idea. Except that it is impossible not to get the hand covering the pen and some point of the spinning.

Yeah, most of the time the pen would have chunks missing. biggrin.gif

Stack the effect and pick several blue tones for a better outcome.

Triangle passes? Thumbspins? Halftaps? There's several tricks you can do with the pen visible at all times.

But as for hand covering the pen, it's not such a huge problem if you're using a pen without too much details.
A comssa would be perfect for the job, you can simply draw the keyed out parts of the pen back in without too much problem.

suggestion: you could do a multiple shot vid, in which you use blue screen with blue gloves for certain shots; then reapeat from where the last shot took off, but with only the blue screen. That way you could possibly get some vid of your hand disapearing, in situations where your hand would not move in-front of the pen.

eg: start with a side shot, w/o gloves, where you do a sonic rise. Then you do a bird's eye veiw, with the gloves, and make your hand disapear as it spins across your hand. biggrin.gif

    ?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

u could possible use a white backround(if ur hand is white mellow.gif ) and use a blue pens....so rather then making it disapear u can make an animated pen while ur pen spinning....would be the best pen mod ever lol....

In UPSB + PDS, how did they cut out Kam? Was he in front of a blue screen or what?

I've had experience with using blue/green screens. Used to make videos with all the high tech equipment in a Video Production class.

It's really simple to do, as long as the software you're using will do it. You can take out pretty much any color, and toggle the thresholds to only get rid of what you want to get rid of. It's really cool.

Check for tutorials with video software such as Mac's Final Cut, or Sony Vegas on filters that will do this.

Also, you can do this with clips where the color isn't stationary.

Sounds very cool but I don't think any trick would work very well. Maybe Triangle passes but i can't think of anything else. Fingerpasses would not work.

kam spins on a clean black background, I know for a fact that De'Vo complained about the uncleanliness of certain spinners' background, and he digitally edited them to make it look better. And kam was the only one with a truly clean background, so he added that effect in. He remarked that it was not professional for videos to have a dirty background.

Ya I use a black BG aswell so if I have a black sleeve I can have the floating hand in the psychedelic BG thing.. it's sorta a catch 22 though, if you use a black BG you might vanish parts of your hand because the hand can cast a shadow on itself, but with green/blue screen, you won't be able to vanish the sleeve, b/c honestly who wears long sleeved blue/green shirts? and that exac type of blue/green and even then the shadows would apear.. so if you want to have a floating hand syndrome I'd go with black bg and sleeve, and I'd try to adjust the lighting so I there wont be any shadows on my hand.. I also agree btw on the notion that a messy BG is just not professional, and generally gives an amateur look.. it doesnt have to be a smooth sheet of something but just pay some attention to the bg and you'll be fine,,

I'm going to try out some green screen spinning during the holidays, but I really don't know how much use it'll be. I mean, what should I have as background instead? I'll try it out with some space scenes from EVE: Online, but other then that I dunno...
