I've noticed a lot of celebrities are treated like gods or something and a lot of them just get a lot of bullshit. Why do these people go through these things? I mean they are just human. I mean sure they've been in popular movies or maybe made amazing songs but still.. in about 10 years those songs or movies will be just a bunch of garbage. I want to know what people think about celebrities and what celebrities mean to you.

    ~ Edited for spelling.

Wow. Use a spell/grammar checker and try again. rolleyes.gif

How can anyone take this thread seriously when it looks like a 6 year old typed it.

Probably, but luckily for iKore... I'm used to seeing all of that.

As for celebrities, I dont see them as special. Just like you I see them as only human, what they do in their personal life is their business. Except for Kam, I've been stalking him for the past 2 years now. biggrin.gif

    Okay. let's be serious.

Actually, ikore, if you really think celebrities are just being treated as a god and all they do is acting and things? you are pretty wrong.

Actually, celebrities have a lot of self-issues as well as very tight non-freedom schedule, that they have hard time dealing with their personal life. You might think celebrities just walk around act, sing, whatever, and just use their face so they can earn million of money, but they are actually working hard, hard enough that they deserve the spotlight and money.

Your not getting it Rexxy. iKore implies that just because your doing movies or making music they're still just human. They have a "non-freedom" schedule is caused by people who are treating them like gods. And their "self-issues" are their own problems, we shouldn't bother with it.

one time i saw a celebrity
    his name was leviathan
    it was crazy
there was all these girls chasing him and stuff
    so i think
    celebrities should be worshiped
    cause they are mutants
they have some weird genetic mutation that makes them exceptionally well at what they do
    and mutants are cool
    X MEN LOL
    LOL X LOL MEN LOL

    Haha laugh.gif

    Anyways...

I think some celebrities are deserving of a certain status. Yes they are still human, however, those who have put in a great effort deserve respect and lots of it. I would take this to mean celebs such as top sportsmen. Celebrities who clearly have put in a lot of effort to get where they are.
However, a celebrity such as Katie Price, she deserves no respect for she has not become a celebrity through hard work of her own.

So really the status 'celebrity' means nothing to me. All that counts for me, is how hard you have worked and how skilled you are. I would be far more pleased to meet someone who puts in time and effort into their skill than some overnight pop singer who happens to be able to roughly sing the right notes and have a pair of double Ds.

they do work hard, and thats it. but the problem is that everybody knows them for something else they did, not their movies, songs...
and what if, for example, papparazzies and newswriters started talking about some anonymus person's life. would that person be a celebrity? yes, and he/she hasn't done anything.
there is also lot of people who haven't done anything and are famous just because they are ricj, in the spoight, won in some reality show...
but you can't say that only people who made movies and songs are popular. there is a lot of famous writers, scientists...
and yes, they are still humans (duh) and i'm not a least bit interested in their life.

Well, not all celebrities work hard. In serious discussions, I would try and refrain from using universal quantifiers like 'all' and 'none'.

Anyways, if I ever saw a celebrity (and I have before), I would just greet them normally. They're just human beings just like you and I and treating them like they're on a whole other level is ridiculous IMO. The way I see it, just about anybody could become a celebrity, large or small, depending on the circumstances. When you look at it that way, meeting a celebrity isn't as insanely special as fanboys and fangirls make it out to be. In fact, I would even go far as to say that most celebrities don't even strike me as being awe-inspiring. I've met some people that were incredibly awe-inspiring and they weren't even close to being celebrities.

As for the media prying into celebrities' personal lives, I think it's really messed up. No one really needs to know what they are doing, what their lives are like, and what kinds of suits and dresses they bought last week. I think when people start to watch those shows just to get the latest scoop on celebrities' lives, they need to shut off the TV and start living their own lives.

DESCRIPTIVELY, celebrities make a lot of money becuse they GENERATE a lot of money. CDs are bought in mass quantities, and films are viewed by a large audience worldwide. In that sense, they generate A LOT more money than what they are paid.

NORMATIVELY, people should probably be paid by their contribution to mankind. Although celebrities do contribute largely to the culture of society, which is an important facet of humanity, researchers which make important discoveries/breakthrough should also be rewarded accordingly because their research may have a larger impact on mankind.

That's completey true. I don't worship celeberties, but I follow what they do like if a new good movie comes out, I'd probaly watch it.

I also feel bad for some as they want to live a pretty much normal life but papparazzies don't allow them to.

One thing I disagree with a lot of you here is that people do worship them like gods or something. They stalk them around, craving whatevers new and are brainwashed.

So long as those researchers research something useful (medicines for example) rather than something not useful (researching MMORPGs for example). Doctors, teachers etc should also get more normatively.

I agree with what most here have said - Celebrities should never be worshipped and that there are lots of inspiring people out there and they are not celebrities or even remotely famous.

celebrities are famous because most of them work in industries that center on becoming famous.

and to say ALL celebrities work hard for their money is just waaaaay not true. For one thing, plenty of rocketscientistprogrammerdesigners make nothing compared to some rich guys' blond daughter's appearance on a reality TV show where they get paid to act stupid and slutty. On the other hand, i dont think anyone could say Bill Gates doesn't deserve his money
